They will come to us full of confidence and we need to rise to the challenge they will pose us. We know we will have to produce a strong defensive performance, as we have done in previous games at home. The performances we delivered against Ulster and Munster, and Racing 92, one of the very best teams in European rugby, is what we will need to produce today.

I do remember dragging and pestering my Dad to take me to watch the Ospreys against Harlequins at the Stoop. I just wanted to meet all the players and just hanging around waiting to meet them. That’s when I met Shane Williams, among the other players, and there is a photo of that doing the rounds. That’s the first real memory I have of the Ospreys.

FOUNDED 1872 CAPTAIN GRANT GILCHRIST | STUART MCINALLY HEAD COACH MIKE BLAIR GROUNDS EDINBURGH RUGBY STADIUM CURRENT FORM W W W W W
EDINBURGH Edinburgh Rugby is in a rich vein of form this season, having lost just once in their eight outings so far. Their only loss was a shock defeat against Benetton out in Treviso in the second round of the Championship. Since that game, the Scottish side have dispatched the Vodacom Bulls, Zebre, Dragons, Benetton at home, and Cardiff Rugby. They currently sit at the top of the URC table with 33 points to their name. 13 players have been called up to the Scotland camp ahead of the six nations: nine forwards and four backs, including captains Grant Gilchrist and Stuart McInally, as well as 2021 Six Nations player of the championship, Hamish Watson. But there’s plenty of threat in the Edinburgh ranks, and with the Ospreys also contributing a hefty chunk of internationals to the Six Nations campaign, and a slew of injuries to contest with, it’ll be a tough battle against the visitors from the Scottish capital.
RADAR
MESU KUNAVULA The 26-year-old loose forward joined Edinburgh in 2019 and has crossed the try line once in his 15 appearances to date. Possessing oodles of power, pace, skill and deceptively silky hands, Kunavula has represented his country on the Sevens circuit since 2016, scoring 144 points in 23 games, and has represented Fiji in the XVs game five times since 2020 and has crossed the whitewash thrice thus far. Standing at 6ft 5in tall, and weighing in at 17st 5lb, this back rower is a force to be reckoned with both in the loose and in tight quarters.
CAMMY HUTCHINSON A relatively new name among the Edinburgh ranks, the former Scotland U19s captain spent some time plying his trade in the south of France at Stade Nicois, but returned to Edinburgh in 2019. Just 23-years-old, Hutchinson made his debut last year against Ulster in the Rainbow Cup, and celebrated the occasion with a try. Hutchinson has made six further appearances for the Scottish side, and has proven to be a powerful runner and a difficult centre to bring down. If selected, this will be his first outing against the Ospreys since making his debut.
DAVE CHERRY Cherry had a phenomenal season in 2020-21, carrying strongly and defending fiercely, enough to earn himself a call into Scotland’s national side last year. His strike rate was impressive for a hooker, scoring three tries in his five appearances on the international stage to date. He will be disappointed not to have been included in this year’s Six Nations campaign, but the 31-year-old Edinburgh born front rower will no doubt continue to perform for his club and wrestle his way back into international contention.
