“The children have thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and have achieved an awful lot of self growth and self belief from them. It has been lovely to see how their confidence has grown in the way they talk about their mental health and emotions. They also now have a great awareness of their emotions and a bank of strategies to support them going forward in the future”

WHAT STUDENTS SAY:
“On Target has helped me to become a better person. It has helped me control my emotions and improve the way I think about negative scenarios”
“This programme has made me realise that I am worth more than I thought ”
“All our pupils that were involved with the On Target sessions spoke really highly about the programme and told me that they felt it had really helped them. It helped them to work in a group to see that others struggle with similar challenges to them. It supported our pupils to engage in their learning more, and the pupils that I have seen since in our well-being room I have encouraged to use the skills learnt in on target”
Teacher Gowerton Comprehensive School14 Year old Female
Pupil was referred to On Target by the school, they had identified that she was in need of support for her emotional and mental health
This pupil attended 6 weeks of On Target sessions.
First 2 sessions: She was disengaged, quiet and sat through the hour staring at the floor and fidgeting
Week 3: We were able to engage with her and through the methods of the programme it allowed this young girl to begin to open up. She shared that she had recently lost her father and was removed from her mothers care and had no contact with her 7 siblings each of whom had been adopted or were in the foster care system. She was due to be removed from the only family she knew just before Christmas as this was not deemed a suitable placement for her at this time. She was feeling scared and anxious.
On Target gave this young girl a safe space to open up and talk about the things she was going through, work through her thoughts and emotions and give her positive coping strategies to use going forward. It was something she looked forward to weekly and brought a smile to her face.
She also made new friends in the group who were extremely supportive towards her. We were able to supply this young person with some items from the Secret Santa appeal to make her Christmas special. She is now residing in foster care with one of her siblings and is thriving.
“I like the face that I am able to talk about my feelings and what is happening in my life without feeling like I am going to be judged”
