“All of us are looking forward to the challenge posed by the Sharks and we know we will face a very committed and very abrasive group, one that prides themselves on their set piece. We are the same, as you saw against Cardiff Rugby, so that will be the challenge within the challenge this evening. It’s one we are really excited about.”

12 GARYN PHILIPS
I didn’t have the easiest ride in the Academy at the Blues and I didn’t really enjoy it. So at 17, I quit rugby and didn’t want to play again and just played for my local club and then in my first senior game for Abercynon, I broke my leg. The Ospreys got in contact and said they would be happy to take charge of my rehab and that’s how the Ospreys picked me up and they really looked after me and offered me a place in the Ospreys Academy

FOUNDED 1996 CAPTAIN LUKHANYO AM & PHEPSI BUTHELEZI HEAD COACH SEAN EVERITT GROUNDS JONSSON KINGS PARK STADIUM CURRENT FORM L L
CELL C SHARKS The Cell C Sharks are one of the four new South African teams that have joined the United Rugby Championship. Playing out of Durban in KwaZulu Natal, the Cell C Sharks boast a number of Springboks, including captain Siya Kolisi, Lukhanyo Am, Makazole Mapimpi, Aphelele Fassi, Bongi Mbonambi, Curwin Bosch, Ox Nche, Thomas du Toit, and Sikhumbuzo Notshe. Unfortunately, the newcomers have had a torrid time of it thus far in the URC, having lost both of their opening fixtures against Munster and then Glasgow Warriors and conceding 77 points. They won’t be playing their first home game until Round 6 of the Championship and have been without their international stars while the Rugby Championship was ongoing. There is no doubt tonight’s visitors will be a different team once they’re back to full strength; however they face tough opponents in the currently undefeated Ospreys at home in Swansea.
RADAR
THAAKIR ABRAHAMS
10
If you’re ever in search of a player with the “x-factor”, you need look no further than Cell C Sharks winger Abrahams. You may remember the speedster’s exploits against the British and Irish Lions during their tour of South Africa earlier in the year. Hailing from Paarl, South Africa, the 21-year-old represented South Africa U20s and helped his side defeat Argentina for the Bronze medal.
THOMAS DU TOIT
At 129kg and over 6ft 2in, there’s good reason du Toit is nicknamed “The Tank”. Able to pack down at both sides of the scrum, tonight’s captain is a powerful scrummager and a formidable ball carrier. The 13-cap Springbok is no stranger to this competition either, having spent a season with Irish province Munster in 2016-17; expect the big man to lead from the front this evening.

WERNER KOK
Kok had a stand-out performance for the Cell C Sharks as they took on the touring British and Irish Lions team in South Africa, making some crunching hits and carrying hard against the visitors. Although normally a centre, the flowing gold locks of Kok can sometimes be seen out on the wing, a testament to his pace which he used to great effect earning 184 and scoring 84 tries for the Blitzbokke (South African national sevens team). Expect a big impact when Kok comes off the bench today.

28 SUPPORTERS CLUB We have enjoyed a promising and exciting start to the current season. Two Welsh derbies and two wins, the second coming last Saturday, against a much-fancied Cardiff side, here at the Swansea.com Stadium. We should not lose sight of the magnitude of the win away at Rodney Parade, both victories see us in 4th place in the URC Table, the highest placed and only undefeated Welsh team in the competition
