No Discrepancies In Osun Election Results - PDP Expert Witness •Says, ‘I’m Not A Registered Statistician’

he expert witness of the defeated Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the August 9 election in the State of Osun, Mr Samuel Oduntan, has confirmed to the State Election Petition Tribunal, that there were no discrepancies in the results of the election he analysed for his principal.

While also being crossexamined by another of Aregbesola’s counsel, Mr Femi Falana (SAN), the expert witness confirmed that despite the fact that not all the polling units and wards in the 17 local government council areas in contention are being challenged, he based his analysis on all the wards and units of the 17 councils.

E a r l i e r, t h e I N E C counsel had objected to the admissibility of the report of the purported analyses of the expert, saying the document was inadmissible under Section 84 (2 and 4) of the Evidence Act. H e a rg u e d t h a t t h e document was a computergenerated evidence and before it could be admitted, it must be accompanied by certificate of identification of the device through which it was made.

The tribunal reserved ruling on the admissibility of the documents, but marked it as an exhibit.

Other witnesses who testified after the expert witness were Adebisi Gbolagade who was the PDP Collation Agent for Ifelodun Local Government Council Area and Wasiu Olaitan, the PDP Supervisor for Ward 4 of the council area.

Gbolagade said his party did not have party agents in many of the 105 polling units in the council area, despite the facts that the agents signed the result forms.

He also confirmed to the court that all the PDP agents in all the wards submitted the result forms to him.

Olaitan also said he was not the one that signed the result form tendered by the petitioners’ counsel as the Ward 4 collation agent, even though the document was signed.

We Were Not Disenfranchised - PDP Witnesses

The witness, under cross-examination also said that other voters were also accredited on the said day, “but the accreditation was not easy.”

He stressed that because the voting process was a secret ballot system, he did not know who each of the voters voted for.

The witness, who had claimed in his written deposition that the valid votes recorded for his unit were more than the ballot papers brought by the INEC officials on the election day, was confronted with result form for his unit, which confirmed that valid votes for the units was 467, while the total votes recorded was also 467.

After argument on the issue, the tribunal admitted it in evidence and reserve ruling on it till the judgement time.

Earlier, while leading Isola in evidence, the petitioner’s counsel sought to tender through the witness, the alleged written reports of PDP agents submitted to him.

Falana opposed to the tendering of the documents on the ground that they were not front-loaded, pleaded or listed as part of the documents to be relied on.

Describing the documents as strange, he said they did not belong to the category of documents upon which rulings have been reserved.

Also, Pinheiro argued that the documents were not in the pleadings of the petitioners as stated in paragraphs 143 and 144 of the petition.

In his own, the INEC counsel submitted that the witness, not being the maker of the document could not have it tendered through him.

In his reply on point of law, the petitioner’s counsel, Uche, said he conceded that the documents were not specifically pleaded in the petition, but noted that they were relevant.

He said since the ruling would be given at the final judgement, the tribunal should please accept the document conditionally.

Ruling on the admissibility of the document was reserved till the judgement time, but it was marked as exhibit.

But it’s not for us to tell him not to go to court or to withdraw his suit. For like a Yoruba adage says; ‘who will tell a kid not to go leprous once he can live lonely in the bush?’

We had warned him several times not to waste his money to contest against the incumbent Governor, Ogbeni Aregbesola whose popularity in the state isn’t disputable due to his stellar performance but Omi-

sore turned a deaf ear to our counsel.

Not only at the level of Osun Defender did Omisore receive the wise counsel not to contest against Ogbeni’s popularity, even at the level of PDP leadership he received the same advise.

For instance former President Olusegun Obasanjo in his usual candid nature did advise Omisore not to race with Ogbeni; that he should allow Ogbeni to finish his good work.

But because Mr. Money miss-road has more than enough money to throw away, he dismissed Obasanjo’s advise.

Omisore overpriced himself to the extent that he boasted publicly that he would commit suicide if he didn’t win the election. Three weeks after he was disgraced at the poll he has failed to carry out his promise. We don’t blame him really for it isn’t easy to die.

If Mr. President who is the leader of the party at the topmost level could congratulate Ogbeni Aregbesola, who is Omisore to contest the

IMPORTANCE orld Radiography Day is W an annual international initiative intended to raise awareness of, and to stimulate an interest in, the profession of radiography. In addition it is aimed at highlighting the importance of radiography and the indispensable function it plays in the health care environment.

Participation in this celebration could include exhibitions/open days and presentations on radiography as a career to the public and to potential students and also to other health professionals.

This is used as an opportunity to sensitize, inform, and educate the public about radiography as well as what radiographers actually do.

Radiography: is define as the art and science of the various forms of radiant energies on human beings in order to promote health, treat diseases and produced various forms of diagnostic images such as ;x-ray ,radio nuclide, ultrasound, magnetic resonance(MRI),computed tomography (CT) thermography, radiotherapy imaging (treatment) etc. when medically indicated.

Radiography is defined as the art and science of applications of the various forms of radiant energies on human beings in order to promote health, treat diseases and produced various forms of diagnostic images such as ;x-ray, radionuclide ,ultrasound, magnetic resonance (MRI),computed tomography (CT) thermography, radiotherapy imaging (treatment) etc. when medically indicated.

Radiographer: is a professional who is trained, certified and registered to practice any of all the various aspects of the radiography profession stated above.

Radiographers provide imaging expert across wide ranges of imaging modalities such as in medical ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI),Radiotherapy/Oncology, Radiation monitoring/protection, radio nuclide imaging.etc.

Radiographers are at the heart of modern medicine because we provide essential services to millions of people, without detail images of diseases within the body, treatment would not be effective or valuable time may be lost. Both the diagnostic and therapeutic radiographers provide essential services to millions of people worldwide.

A diagnostic radiographer work with special imaging equipment that allows them to see the body thereby produces different forms of imaging such as x-ray, ultrasound imaging etc. which allows them to look through different body parts e.g. bone, soft tissues, cavities and foreign objects

The medical ultrasound is probably one of the most commonly abused aspects of Radiography by all comers in health and medical practices today in Nigeria. This is used routinely to check examine how a developing baby is getting on.

RADIOLOGY:Radiology is the branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of disease using X-rays and other forms of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.

It includes diagnostic radiology, therapeutic radiology and nuclear medicine Radiology is practiced by licensed physicians. Diagnostic radiologists are responsible for interpreting /reporting the images produced by radiographers that become part of patients’ permanent medical records.

Radiography can be confused with radiology as both fall in the same field of medical imaging, however, Radiography is a full fledge profession while Radiology is a sub-specialty in medicine.

Radiographers are imaging technologist who’s primary roles is create, produces and interpret / report such images after acquiring an advance education/qualification in image interpretation and reporting diagnostic images .Radiologists and Radiographers work collaboratively in diagnostic imagery.

RADIOGRAPHY SUB SPECIALTIES Radiography sub specialties includes: diagnostic Radiography, computed tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, mammography, ultrasound, special procedures, nuclear medicine (uses radioactive isotopes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and therapeutic radiography uses ionizing radiation to treat disease), Radiation physics, management etc.

RADIOLGY SPECIALTIES Radiology sub-specialties include diagnostic radiology. Interventional radiologists( use X-rays and catheters to treat disease). Nuclear medicine and therapeutic radiology uses ionizing radiation to treat diseases.

RADIOGRAPHY EDUCATION The entry qualification is 5 ordinary level credit pass in basic sciences, English ,Mathematics,Bilology,Chemistry and physics ,just like medicine, pharmacy etc.

Admission is through JAMB ,and the duration is five years plus one year compulsory internship making 6 years in all.

Presently, there about Seven universities that offer Radiography as a course of study in Nigeria namely; University of Calabar, University of Nigeria Enugu Campus, Nnamdi Azikwe University Awka, University of Lagos, Akoka. University of

Maiduguri, Bayero University Kano, UthmandanFodio University, Sokoto.

I would like to appeal to all the south west Universities to see reasons why they should start a program in Radiography for the betterment of the south west young school leavers, and for the benefit of humanity and our nation as a whole. Because the present distribution of the universities in the country has already put the south west young school leavers at a disadvantage bearing in mind the quota system, distance etc.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES There millions of Job opportunities for both radiographers and Radiologist both here in Nigeria and abroad. In fact there is no known radiographer or Radiologist either here in Nigeria or abroad looks for work for months before getting one .Honestly people are always looking for this professional rare gem all over the world.

To this end I would like to encourage most of our young school leavers and even people with first degrees is sciences to consider taking up radiography as a course of study.

It should be noted that procurement of x-rays and medical imaging equipment is quite different from all other equipment’s procurement where just a business man or government functionaries might just go to market and order for any equipment’s. which is the usual practices in Nigeria system and this as resulted in colossal waste of tax payers money over the years because most of this equipment’s procured in this manner are always falling short of standard.

Directorate of radiography is long overdue in all our ministries and hospital services. Where technical head (professional) and clinical heads will be clearly specified and seen to be functioning. This will really help in term of policy making and development of Radio diagnostic department Nationwide. Most of our professional Radiographers travels out of this country not only for greener pastures but to full develop and exhibit their professional competency where they get good/modern equipment’s and better admiration policies to work with.

Creating this directorate in our ministries and hospital services will surely lead to rapid transformation of radio diagnostic department where both Radiographers and radiologist can fully develop their potentials and offer better services to the nation where patient received values for their money.

How Insensitive Is Our President ?

hen President Goodluck Jonathan was declaring in 2011 at the Eagle Square, I was one of those who fell for the humility displayed by him. Even before his declaration, when he was held into captivity by the cabal and was blocked from being the acting president during the late Yar’Adua saga, many Nigerians came out to speak on his favour.

While the likes of Pastor Tunde Bakare founded a movement called Save Nigeria Group to demonstrate against the illegality being perpetrated in the presidency, when the then Attorney General (Mr Andooka) declared that the late President Umaru Yar’Adua could rule Nigeria from anywhere in the world.

It took the intervention of the National Assembly and the Nigerian Governors Forum led

by Dr. Bukola Saraki to resolve the political logjam through what is now known as the doctrine of necessity.

Many Nigerians like myself are by now being disappointed to see the then humble man from Utuoke that claimed he had no shoes, who we wrongly believed and deceived by his humility.

Under the watch of GEJ, corruption has gone haywire and the President does not give a damn, even if the country becomes bankrupt, in as much as he can get his second term either by hook or crook. In every ministry under his watch, there is monumental corruption being reported on daily basis, while allocations due to each state are being short-changed under the disguise of oil theft.

Many of the state governors are finding it difficult to meet up with their electioneering campaign promises they made and providing basic infrastructures has been difficult. All of these are due to the corruption going on in the presidency.

Some observers believe this stolen money are been kept for the 2015 general elections. When Madam Needful (Stella Oduah) bought two cars for N245 million, our President couldn’t just give a damn, even when this was an obvious daylight robbery. The President foot-dragged before he eventually asked her to step aside. Alas, she left without being prosecuted. How insensitive this could be, when there are many Nigerians, who could not afford just one square meal a day.

The unbelievable corruption going on at the NNPC under the watch of our President’s town woman is nothing to write home about. The National Assembly has indicted her many times over the oil subsidy fraud, the $20 billion missing money, they are just too

many. The President promised us working refineries; he has not done that, as we are still importing fuel.

The electricity he promised us is not there, yet what is going on under his watch is corruption, corruption and corruption.

The issue of security is even another problem facing the entire country and the North East in particular. While the North East people are facing Boko Haram problem, the other parts of the country are facing problems of kidnapping and armed robbery.

The war in the Northern part of the country has been on for some time and the President has been called different names for his inability to safeguard the country and failure on his part to discharge his constitutional duties to protect lives and properties. Instead of finding ways to tame the insurgents, his aides are busy pointing accusing fingers at the opposition party, based on the utterances made at different fora. Two of these aides are Femi Fani-Kayode, who many regard as a confused man and Olisa Metuh, who is regarded as a comedian.

I watched Femi Fani-Kayode on a popular programme anchored by Gbenga Aruleba, what he was being asked was different from what he

was saying. The discussion was about the declaration of GEJ and matter arising, but as usual he was busy roping the opposition to the insurgency rampaging the entire North East. How Alhaji Lai Mohammed said Boko Haram should not be proscribed; how Buhari said he would spread Sharia law to the entire country if he becomes the President and how he said a war on Boko Haram is a war against the North. If Mr Fani-Kayode believed they are the sponsors of the deadly Boko Haram, one can conclude that the President does not fit to be called the Commander-in-Chief since he cannot bite, having known the so called Boko Haram sponsors, as claimed by one of his confidants Mr Fani-Kayode. When in actual fact, the international negotiator (Mr Davis) employed by the presidency has revealed the names of the Boko Haram sponsors.

These people are also members of the ruling party and confidants of the President.

Mr Fani-Kayode should be told that Nigerians are tired of his tirade about the opposition that now sounds like a broken record.

The President is not bothered about the innocent children being slaughtered by this deadly group, all that bothers the President now

is how to win the next election.

No wonder, whenever there’s any bomb blast anywhere in the country, the President doesn’t give a damn.

With his latest act of blatant hard-heartedness, President Jonathan is only continuing along his well-trodden path of acting without deep introspection.

When about 60 students were killed in the terror attack on the Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, in February 2014, he went celebrating the centenary and there after, he went to Ibadan for a birthday bash. President Jonathan never visited the scene to commiserate with the families of the victims. Gosh! What a President! When over 100 people were killed in the first Nyanya bombing in April 2014, President Jonathan went dancing ‘Azonto’ in Kano less than 48 hours later, just because one soul was joining his party. Therefore, the over-100 souls that perished in Nyanya bombing were not that important when compared to the soul of Alhaji Ibrahim Shekarau, who was decamping to the PDP. And when almost 300 girls were freshly abducted in Chibok, President Jonathan neither acted fast enough to rescue the girls nor visited the village. His administration even denied anyone was abducted, until 19 days after! How insensitive this President can be!

Just not too long ago, the Synagogue Church of all Nations had one of their buildings collapsed, where almost 150 people died, our dear President went there to make a political visit to the man of God. When in a decent society, the man of God would by now be behind bar for erecting a building without the approval of neither the Lagos State Government nor the Local Government Authority. No wonder, the man is proving to be above the law by refusing to appear before the coroner, since GEJ has assured him that he does not give a damn even if a thousand souls perished.

“This President has therefore established a pattern of putting his political interest above the security and welfare of Nigerians, who voted him into office. This President has trampled upon the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on many occasions as witnessed with his attitude towards this untold hardship and the senseless killing rampaging the North East of the country.

Mr President, your primary responsibility is to protect lives

President Jonathan Repeats Broken Promises For 2015 Re-election his is the sixth year the polyglot nation of a tens of thousands ethnic nationalities have been looking up to President Goodluck Jonathan for political and economic redemption.

Unfortunately for the people, the salvation they seek seems merely blighted by issues that didn’t transcend ethnocentric or religious struggles.

To this end, sadly, these issues are exploited to political ends and into a sinking foul political morass.

This is what Adolf Hitler called “spiritual terror”, in his book titled: Mein Kampf. “I understand the infamous spiritual terror which the Social Democratic press exerts, particularly on the bourgeoisie, which is neither morally nor mentally equal to such attack; at a given sign it unleashes a veritable barrage of lies and slanders against whatever adversary seems most dangerous, until the nerves of the attacked persons break down... This is a tactic based on precise calculation of all human weakness, and it’s result will lead to success with almost mathematical certainty”.

Mr President’s pestilential politics of “religious terror”, cloaking itself as democratic path way, which is absolutely divisive, is to quench the peoples’ bated breath against his ‘Transformation Paralysis’ that is slowly winding by. Nigerians have suddenly forgotten President Jonathan’s electoral promises some six years ago that echoed from the shrewdness of political emptiness.

“We will fight for JUSTICE!, We will fight for all Nigerians to have access to POWER!, We will fight for qualitative and competitive EDUCATION!, We will fight for HEALTH CARE REFORMS!, We will fight to create jobs, for all Nigerians!, We will fight corruption!, We will fight to protect all citizens!, We will fight for your rights!”

Those were the exact words of President Jonathan to a nation that has gone through leadership brigandage for decades. The President repeated those promises for his 2015 re-election on November 11, as he did on September 18, 2010. Nigerians watched the President declared his intention again for the highest office in the land after daunting credentials of failure at the same Eagle Square. This time round, he could not elicite that unusual hopes in the mass of Nigerians, who have been tortured with his unfulfilled electoral promises and lurid illusions of governance in the last six years.

Those reassuringly promises of renewed hopes, which brought him to power in 2011 have become big bluff.

His initial profile of a profound thinker and reticent leadership gave way to bewildering cluelessness, bowing rather to a ruthlessly graft-infected and fractious ruling class that brought the nation to its knees. The President, who has risen from modest circumstance, whose political ascent of the hitherto obscure son of a rural canoe-carver and fisherman from the oil-producing south; decent at heart, generous, chivalrous and tolerant man become suddenly weak-kneed.

That President Jonathan falls for their bait has everything to do with his leadership credentials. Even though he has everything it takes to pacify a country with simultaneous on-againoff-again rebellions in the North and South, as a Ph.D holder with all the Petrol-dollars, Nigeria is still firmly in

The populace, whose civic responsibility it is to constantly put the President to task on the sanctity of the nation’s Constitution and its inviolability, chose to hide under religious or ethnocentric subterfuge.

A nation is in danger if a backsliding President is not reminded of his avowed, “We will fight for JUSTICE” and the taunted rule of law’s matrix.

Nigerians are unable to put the President to task over the withdrawal of the security protection from the Number 4 citizen. The electorate are not concerned about the Nigeria Police illiterate interpretation of the nation’s Constitution.

Thanks to the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, media concerns, several rights groups and other well-meaning Nigerians. The NLC and NBA came particular hardly on the presidency and distinguished themselves as the bastions of the nation’s democracy. “We at the Nigeria Labour Congress are appalled by the withdrawal of security details of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, ostensibly because he had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The act is shameful, distasteful, unconstitutional and demonstrates our parochial sense of power and very little knowledge of history. No part of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria says the Speaker of the House of Representatives should come from the majority party. “Section 50(1)(b) only says: “ There shall be …a Speaker and a Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, who shall be elected by the members of that House from among themselves…’

“In the Second Republic, the Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Edwin UmeEzeoke, was elected from the ranks of NPP, not just an opposition party but the third strong , after UPN and NPN. We have other precedents across the world.

“We find it appropriate to cite the examples of Mimiko and Ali ModuSheriff, governor of Ondo State and former governor of Borno State respectively. Their security details were not withdrawn when they defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“It gives us concern that our political leaders are determined to learn very little about democracy and always seem too keen to overheat the polity over things that count for little.

“The police and other security agencies complicit in this disgusting conduct should hold their heads in shame. Herein lies the essence of strong institutions, which we have

always advocated. “For those who take pleasure in converting to personal use, public/state institutions, today’s men soon become yesterday’s men. What goes around, comes around.

“In the light of the foregoing, we demand immediate restoration of Tambuwal’s security details and all the rights and privileges that accrue to the Office of the Speaker. It is not about Tambuwal, it is about the office which he holds. “And in any case, only few, arguably, will contest that he has not discharged and acquitted himself as Speaker. We would like to be on record that we will not fold our hands while little minds threaten our hard-earned democracy. Nothing should happen to Tambuwal”, the NLC posited.

The NBA presented its objection more aptly: “There is no crime in defecting to another party and the IGP is not the person responsible for interpreting what the Constitution says on any issue. That is the responsibility of the court”. “The deployment of the security personnel is not because of a particular political party but because he is the Speaker.” “His defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), therefore, has nothing to do with the office of the Speaker.” NBA added.

Questions earlier raised whether he will have the requisite toughness to negotiate the minefield that is political life in the country has come to the fore, albeit disingenuously. Now, he has deployed his newly-acquired grim stuff into negative use; meddling in the politics of another arms of government.

Nigerians will continue to remember President Jonathan for a long time to come if he redirects his combative energy into terminating the nihilist Boko Haram group.

Nigerians are not so sure Mr President is truly committed to routing the Boko Haram militia. Evidently, they could not comprehend what drives their leader to Burkina-Faso to contrive a truce between the military and the toppled Blaise Campaore after 27 years on the saddle at a time his country is being dynamited by Boko Haram insurgents a few days ago.

President Jonathan’s promise of: “We will fight corruption!” is not in consonant with his past.

The President, who eventually succeeded the disgraced governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, now granted presidential pardon by the same Jonathan has a tainted path with corruption. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) did seize $13.5 million from his wife, Patience, in 2006 on suspicion of money laundering.

From the foregoing, Mr President’s 2015 promises of zero-tolerance for corruption-related cases; power generation, infrastructural revamp, agrarian rejuvenation, rule of law, stepping up to the Boko haram’s plague and the like cannot be relied upon.

The President’s six years of democratic desecrations or political corrosion are not mere coincidence of mishaps, as he rose through to the pinnacles of his political career. They are cautiously shambled to determined end. This is the reason Nigerians must rise to end President Jonathan’s charade, come 2015.

Whether to remain trapped in pains and hurt of the previous time others might have caused us, or embrace the flaws in them and decide to let go their shortcomings and move forward; either to hold to their ills and draw ourselves back or push forward by forgiving them.

Everyone tends to have fake forgiveness or pretend to forgive at one time or the other. Out of pressure and plea from people around us, we tend to act out forgiveness, when the only way to truly do it, to really do it, is letting go on our own accord; at our own time and pace. People we hold dear do the unthinkable to us. They become illogical, unreasonable and self-centred and expect forgiveness to which one would think all is forgotten, but they are not receiving true forgiveness. This is not actually forgiveness.

When it comes down to forgiving someone, one has to make that decision. Forgiveness is not something one can carelessly overlook. Forgiveness involves a change in a person’s behavioural intentions (hence a change in motivation) towards a transgressor. Forgiveness is more than simply saying the words: “I forgive you.” It is a decision that one really has to absolutely mean.

If we fail to forgive ourselves in time, we often end up realizing that others had forgiven us long back, but we kept feeling bad about ourselves all this time.

Forgiveness helps us feel light and helps us get rid of hard feelings that occupy our mind and

heart and eat away our peace of mind. Forgiveness is a way to self-fulfilment. People who can readily forgive others are much more responsible and satisfied inside than those who keep grudges against others and develop feelings of enmity. C.R Strahan once said: “Forgiveness has nothing to do with absolving a criminal of his crime. It has everything to do with relieving oneself of the burden of being a victim. Letting go of the pain and transforming oneself from victim to survivor”. The feeling of anguish only results in arguments, fights, mistreatments and war in certain cases. Those who forgive help create positive energy on this planet.

If the people, who are close to you betray or hurt you, you find it most difficult to forgive them. Sometimes, the extent to which your trust is breached determines the ease or difficulty in forgiving. But it is true that the more easily we forgive the other person, the less likely we shall suffocate ourselves keeping bad intentions for the wrongdoer. We need to feed it into our system to let go, so that we do not stay annoyed and offended for long.

Our grudges will only affect the relationship with the person and not hurt the other person in any way. The ability to forgive gives us a sense of freedom and makes us suffer less and feel lesser misery and pains.

Though it may look impossible, unfair to forgive those that might have hurt us, probably because of the gravity of their offences, but I strongly believe that forgiving others makes us stronger, healthier and far more of a better person than we were. Letting go doesn’t mean we are weak or incapable.

It means we are better, bolder and more experienced. Every ill done to us is a lesson learned.

resident Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will go down in history for many reasons. It is on record that he never contested as a major candidate in an election till he won the presidential election in 2011, even though he had held elective posts.

He contested the 1999 gubernatorial election with his then boss, Dieprieye Solomon Alamasiegha as the deputy governorship candidate for Bayelsa State. They were into their second term when Alamasiegha was implicated in financial scam in London, which led to his impeachment by the State House Assembly. Jonathan had the opportunity to complete the tenure.

On completion of the term, he had the rare opportunity of being picked by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the running mate of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

Unfortunately, the president died in office and the lucky Jonathan had to complete the tenure of the joint ticket given to them by Nigerians.

This simply translates to the fact that Jonathan was in power for twelve years before he contested and won the presidential elections in 2011 in his personal capacity.

Some analysts argue that his victory at the 2011 polls confirms the prophecy of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo that in future, an Ijaw man would become the president of this country one day. Ijaw, by Nigeria ethnic configuration, belongs to the minority.

The interesting thing is that the Ijaws now see the opportunity of their son being in power as a Godgiven opportunity, which must be used to the fullest. They pride their “son” as the first minority to become the president or head of this country.

This, however, is a historical fallacy.

It is so because, General Yakubu Gowon, who recently clocked eighty years and who ruled the country for nine years, belongs to the minority tribe of Pankshin in Plateau State.

It is therefore not historically correct to say that Jonathan is the first minority to head a government at the national level in Nigeria.

There has never been any time in the hundred years of Nigeria’s amalgamation that life has tended to be very risky and short.

Different theories have been propounded to explain the cause for insurgency. Some have posited that it is because the Muslim-North is not comfortable with a Jonathan, who is a Christian. If that postulation is correct, then the question, is Jonathan the first Christian to rule Nigeria? Some have even argued that the sitting president usurped what rightly belonged to the North, which simply means that after the death of his late boss, he should have only completed the joint term and allow another northerner to come up.

The president has come our publicly to state that his government

has been infiltrated by the Boko Haram sympathizers. The government has even claimed that they know the sponsors of the Boko Haram insurgents, yet there is no known case of the prosecution of any mastermind of Boko Haram.

What to the ordinary Nigerian started as a religious bigotry taken too far with the killing of their leader, Mohammed Yusuf, under extra judicial killing, has now become a monster that cannot be tamed.

Tried as this government has done, they have failed to subdue these insurgents and that calls to question the capability of our security forces.

Starting from intelligent officials, whose duty it is to collate intelligent reports of all that is happening in the country, the policemen, who are supposed to prevent the commission of crimes and the military that should come in as a last resort, Nigerians are

not satisfied with what has happened so far. Buck-passing has become the order of the day and rationalization has become a state policy, yet the real deal has not happened.

That the terrorists have taken over some local government council areas and hosted their flag is enough embarrassment to the sovereignty of the country. The abduction of Chibok School girls in Borno State since April, 2014, the killings in Yobe, the destruction of lives and property in Mubi, including the personal house of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, and the latest school boys killing in Portiskun are clearly negative signs.

The president may not have deliberately caused all these things, but it is a reality that they all transpired while he is in power.

President Jonathan needs to do more to ensure that the country is safe. Today, he is the president of the whole country, which means his mandate is pan-Nigeria. He should be a statesman, rather than a politician. There would always be a temptation to be partisan, but the strong desire to be nationalist should be overriding in all his actions.

Before his open interference in the activities of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), the body had been a unified one, which took critical decisions on major national issues. His support and recognition for Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State in the election of the NGF was a political blunder.

The Jang faction had 16 votes, whereas Governor Rotimi Amaechi had 19 votes, which obviously was the popular choice. One governor, who was out of the country did not partake in the election. How could a president support 16 votes against 19 in a democracy and in an election conducted at that high level.

His attempt to support the minority in the Rivers State House of Assembly brouhaha in Port Harcourt backfired, just as it did in the Nassarawa State parliament.

Just recently, the newly-inaugurated governor of Ekiti State, Mr Peter Ayodele Fayose, has instigated the election of a Speaker protempore to carry out some assignments in the state parliament. Again, how can 7 legislators claim to be in the majority against 19? The PDP are seven in a 26-member parliament.

All these actions and inactions of the President and the PDP build up
