Nice, its city centre on the UNESCO World Heritage list Part of Nice is now on the UNESCO World Heritage List under the title "Nice, winter resort town of the Riviera".

T

This inscription is the recognition of the "exceptional universal value" of the city's rich heritage, the originality of its history and the construction of a form of tourism, thus acknowledging Nice which, since the 18th century, has been shaped by and for tourism.

The exceptional: 522 hectares of the city form the perimeter of the listed site and 4,243 hectares represent the buffer zone to be protected for the coherence of the elected site. This area goes beyond Nice itself and extends to the metropolitan villages of Falicon, Saint-André de la Roche, Aspremont and Tourrette-Levens, which have committed themselves to this spirit of preservation.

The spectacular: The whole, made up of controlled urban planning, demonstrates the unique architectural heritage, built from the middle of the 18th to the middle of the 20th century by the cosmopolitan first winter tourists. The green spaces which combine exotic and Mediterranean species, the promenades such as the famous Promenade des Anglais, and other places of sociability - places of leisure or religion.

The transmission: This nomination is also a responsibility. That of preserving this heritage, an incredible testimony to the history of Nice and above all of its tourism. It is this filiation that has founded the unique know-how of the destination: two and a half centuries of practice and experience in welcoming cosmopolitan visitors. This listing is a real founding act for the destination, because it redefines its image, and even its perception. It also encourages the rediscovery of Nice from this often underestimated aspect. It also paves the way allowing the city to be seen as a cradle of the arts for five centuries, but above all as being immersed today in a high-level contemporary dynamism. Here, creation is a constant at the heart of the city.

"The history of Nice, both deep-rooted and open, Mediterranean and Alpine, European and cosmopolitan, has produced a unique architecture and landscape, a model for many other cities in the world.” C. Estrosi, Mayor of Nice

"This inscription consecrates Nice as an archetype of the Riviera winter resort with its exceptional site, between sea and mountain, and the various influences that have shaped its heritage.” R. Bachelot, former Minister of Culture

Nice, a 360° destination Nice, the 5th largest city in France, is the capital of the Côte d'Azur with a rare combination of sea and mountain. Culture and nature are the basis of an exceptional art of living, a source of plenitude, which is accompanied by a unique cuisine full of flavours.

O

pen to the sea, it draws its charm from its gentle way of life, which is due as much to the beauty of the town as to its exceptional microclimate. It is protected from the strong winds by its mountains. Its mild climate in winter and its sunshine, 300 days a year, are legendary. As for the light, its quality has attracted and still attracts the greatest artists -painters, writers, filmmakers-; it illuminates and seduces all talents. Nice has acquired an international cultural reputation thanks to the quality of its teams and the structures that support them (museums, theatres, opera, etc.). Nice is also a privileged destination for its art of living, which has almost become a religion. Knowing how to enjoy the place, eating well and taking the time to savour is important here. The beaches, shopping (the city is classified as an International Tourist Zone) and the lively nightlife are also a must. The city is also a slow tourism destination that is exceptionally connected to nature, which makes up the majority of its territory. Parks and gardens are everywhere, but also hills devoted to crops (PDO -protected designation of origin- Wine and Olives) and hiking (Lou Camin Nissart), the region's leading sport activity for locals.

Nice, a dynamic city with many facets The 5th largest city in France, Nice is the capital of the Côte d'Azur. It is also the 2nd largest international tourist centre in France after Paris. It is a modern and active city, the economic heart of the department. In addition to the importance of its tourist activity, Nice is a major city in the field of sustainable development as "green city of the Mediterranean", and for health as "European city of health".

A

t a time when the planet requires special and attentive care, Nice has designed a very committed policy, in all areas, in terms of sustainable development and environmental protection. To this end, a vast programme of redevelopment of green spaces is being carried out. As an attractive destination, Nice offers green spaces at every turn of its streets. The 300 hectares or so of parks and gardens create original and dreamlike landscapes. The city's mild climate has allowed the acclimatisation of numerous plant species from all over the world. The capital of the Côte d'Azur has been awarded the "City of Art and History" label and has acquired an international cultural reputation. Throughout its history, the city has preserved a rich and spectacular heritage. This is evidenced by the 74 buildings protected as historical monuments, i.e. 19% of the historical monuments in the Alpes-Maritimes department.

Did you know? Ranked as one of the world's leading Smart Cities, Nice is home to the Smart City Innovation Center in the heart of the Eco-vallée. A unique collaborative platform in France of 300 sqm at the service of innovation and economic development. It enables university and research players to work in synergy with leading industrialists in the field of innovation and the smart city. The city is pursuing its efforts in terms of energy transition, security, innovation, connected health and ageing well.

6

Nice, the way to great projects Nice, an authentic city in full effervescence, is currently undergoing a real cultural, economic, artistic and architectural revolution. The major development axes are defined for the months and years to come and new facilities will enrich the tourism offer on the Côte d'Azur.

L’Eco-vallée The Eco-vallée, an Operation of National Interest, launched during the Grenelle de l'environnement, is dedicated to sustainable development and extends over a perimeter of 10,000 hectares. This area, to the west of the city, is intended to host companies and institutions linked to this sector of activity, particularly in the Grand Arénas district. The Eco-vallée plans to create 50,000 jobs and build 4,400 homes.

Promenade du Paillon Developed in 2008, the Promenade du Paillon, a vast green lung, is currently being extended to cover almost 20 hectares. The project has a number of objectives, including adapting to global warming and improving the quality of life of local residents.

The Multimodal Hub Linked directly to the airport, the Nice SaintAugustin multimodal hub, a new infrastructure built with reusable materials, will be the new connection between train, tramway, bus and plane. Completion by different stages between 2023 and 2028.

Other development projects The creation of tram lines 4 and 5 is intended to ensure better mobility. The first will serve the communes of Saint-Laurent du Var and Cagnes-surMer to the west of Nice. The second, in the Paillon valley to the east, will link Pont-Michel and Drap on a complete tramway line. The 1rst one is scheduled for 2026, the 2nd one between 2026 and 2028.

7

Nice, ergonomic infrastructures for better welcome services

Aéroport international Nice Côte d’Azur Nice-Côte d'Azur airport is the 2nd largest airport in France, after Paris, with 14.2 million passengers in 2023. The international network to which Nice is linked makes it a privileged gateway. In the summer of 2022, 107 destinations and 39 countries will be linked by 40 companies. It remains the leading long-haul offer after Paris with 9 overhead lines. Numerous investments have been made to become the airport of tomorrow: ultra-efficient, safe from a health point of view and a leader in its commitment to reduce its environmental impact. It is the first "carbon neutral" airport group in France and the "Airport Carbon Accreditation level 4+" certification attests to the reduction, in absolute terms, of its emissions. Nice Côte d'Azur Airport is the first French airport to be awarded the "Family +" label, which certifies its commitment to welcoming families.

The port and its future convention centre The port of Nice is one of the oldest on the coast. It consists of a 10-hectare stretch of water and 7.5 hectares of docks platforms. Ideally located near the tourist centre of the city, it develops around dominant activities such as cruises, large yachts, maritime links with Corsica, without forgetting traditional activities such as rock fishing. The Lympia Basin is located in the heart of the red ochre square of the “Ile de Beauté”, one of the city's three listed squares. In 2025, the "Ocean Summit" will be held there, in the new convention centre inaugurated for the occasion. Nice continues its environmental commitment. An agreement between the Nice Côte d'Azur Metropolitan aera and Corsica Ferries now requires the use of fuel limited to 0.1% sulphur for ferries. This measure is more restrictive than the international regulation which sets the sulphur level at 0.5% in the Mediterranean.

8

Thiers Railway Station Thiers station has undergone a vast renovation programme to make it more coherent and better able to welcome its 8 million users per year. The redevelopment continues with the "Iconic" project, a building complex inherent in the desire to beautify and improve the flow of traffic in the city centre. It will provide a pedestrian link between the platforms and the tramway. Its singular architecture with the appearance of an XXL diamond is signed by David Libeskind. Opening in 2024.

"Mobilize": still with a view to reducing traffic in the city and pollution, electric car sharing is also available to the public. Nice Côte d'Azur was the first local authority to introduce them on a large scale. There are 52 vehicles and 300 charging points. Free2move, another car-sharing service, recently joined the scheme.  explorenicecotedazur.com/en/practicalinformation/getting-around

The "Lignes d'Azur" network Lignes d'Azur is the public transport network of Nice Côte d'Azur. Thanks to its 100 regular bus lines, it links 51 towns and villages in the metropolitan area. The tramway was designed to improve the quality of life of city dwellers, and has changed the face of Nice, particularly through its artistic accompaniment. Since its launch, 40% of journeys are made using this sustainable mode of transport with a single attractive fare of €1.70 for an urban or interurban ticket. In addition, 6 "Parcazur" park-and-ride facilities allow motorists to reach the city centre by tram or bus. It should be noted that the share of "green buses" increases every year.  lignesdazur.com/en

The "Vélo Bleu" and other networks The "Vélo bleu" are an alternative mode of transport, introduced in 2009. This self-service bicycle rental service is available at 161 stations with 1,750 bicycles. The city is planning an extensive network of cycle paths in order to achieve a 10% modal share. Its extension is planned for each new road development. Since 2020, self-service 100% electric bicycles have also been offered, with the service extending to 6 municipalities. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, they are made available to users aged 14 and over via a dedicated application.  velobleu.org/en

"Yego"

the first self-service electric scooter rental service was set up in Nice in 2018. Here, no dedicated station, the scooters park in all the city's public spaces and are then geolocated thanks to the app.  rideyego.com/nice

Other alternative means exist to get around and discover the city from an original angle: electric tricycles, segways, ebikes (electric bicycles), vintage car rental...  explorenicecotedazur.com/en/ practical-information/getting-around The good deal: The French Riviera Pass offers free or reduced rates for the Nice Tourist Train, Nice le Grand Tour, Segway Mobilboard Nice and Chemin de fer de Provence.  en.frenchrivierapass.com

Nice, a hotel complex in full revival Nice has one of the largest hotel complexes in France, comprising 175 hotels with almost 11,238 rooms. The city has a wide variety of accommodation ranging from youth hostels to 5-star luxury hotels, covering a wide range of services.

T

The luxury tourist offer

The Nice Airport/Arénas area

will also be expanded in the heart of the city since the Boscolo B4 Nice Park hotel will become a 5 * Maison Albar at the end of 2023, will follow, in 2024.

he hotel industry has undergone a major revival in the last ten years. Between new hotels and complete renovations, Nice's hotel stock is expanding rapidly and is seeing a clear move upmarket. This hotel industry is in constant evolution and more than 1200 rooms have been delivered or will be soon.

now has 800 additional rooms: two hotels from the Intercontinental group have opened their doors in a 20,000 sqm complex. These are a 4-star Crowne Plaza hotel and a 3-star Holiday Inn Express hotel. In the same area, the hotel of the French chain OKKO, as well as the B&B 3* are available since 2021 and a Sheraton 4* complete the offer since spring 2022. Finally, a MOXY by Marriott hotel is also expected in 2024.

The centre of Nice The Nice Thiers station, completely redesigned and redeveloped, will soon offer a 105-room Double tree by Hilton 4* hotel in the future "diamond", designed by David Linbeskind, which will link the station to the Gare Thiers tramway station. The complex will also include shops, restaurants, a gym, a 500-seat theatre and terrace cafés. The project will be completed in 2024.

Near the port, will follow the 4* Palais Ségurane and Mama Shelter in 2024, the 4* Village Garibaldi will be delivered in 2025.

10

Next, The Couvent de la Visitation will be converted into 5 * by the Perseus group.

Not forgetting, of course, the emblematic hotels such as Le Negresco 5* which has renovated all its suites and whose 6th floor new look will be delivered between 2024 and 2025. The Hyatt Regency Palais de la Méditerranée 5* or the Boscolo collection 5*. All three classified as historical monuments, in whole or in part, they contribute to the influence of Nice. An online booking platform is integrated into the www.explorenicecotedazur.com website and allows visitors to plan their stay in just a few clicks and to benefit from good deals. Offering tools to facilitate stays is a constant for the office which, with the online booking platform, was a pilot in this area.

The MICE tourism offer Nice is a major destination for international MICE tourism - one out of every four stays is devoted to this activity - and has infrastructures recognised for the quality of their services in some thirty hotels (meetings, seminars, congresses from 15 to 500 participants).

11

Nice, a city of art and culture With a rich history whose first traces date back to 400,000 BC, Nice has managed to preserve and develop its architectural heritage. The city's special light and privileged geographical location between the sea and the mountains has always attracted and inspired artists. Today, it remains a prolific place for contemporary creation.

N

ice is a dynamic capital, looking to the great challenges of the future. Sure of its ties and its roots, it has always projected itself easily into the future. This is also reflected in contemporary creation, which has been at the heart of life and culture in Nice for as long as it has existed. Each period has welcomed the art of its time as a matter of course and the history of the city is marked by the traces of this creation.

A panorama of heritage over time Nice is characterised by a great variety of architectural styles from different periods. Over the centuries and through a very tumultuous history, Nice has kept within its walls the imprint of each period...

Prehistory and Antiquity The Greeks and Romans settled here in antiquity, in sites such as Cimiez, its arenas, its thermal baths... Greek traces and vestiges of the Middle Ages remain on the hill of the Castle. Under the Place Garibaldi, archaeological excavations, of major interest, have brought to light the foundations of the fortifications of the ancient city, which are exceptionally well preserved, retracing 700 years of history over an area of 2,000 sqm.

12

To see : Archaeological sites The Archaeological Museums: Nice-Cimiez, located on the ruins of the ancient Roman city, also has an early Christian ensemble. Terra Amata, museum of prehistory, where the first organized hearth discovered in Europe is reconstructed. The nearby Grotte du Lazaret is also an important site for the Stone Age period. The archaeological crypt, under the Place Garibaldi, has been classified as a Historic Monument since 2012.

Belle Epoque

Baroque art Baroque art, along with classical art, is the first style to offer a real heritage which is a perfect example of this theatrical architecture. The 17th century Palais Lascaris, the Palais de Justice, the Palais de la Préfecture, formerly the Palais des Ducs de Savoie, the former Palais Communal and the former Senate all show the diversity and richness of the buildings in the old town. The religious architecture includes an exceptional group of buildings, including the Cathedral of Sainte-Réparate and the Chapel of the Misericorde, which bear witness to the very specific baroque art of Nice dating from the 17th century.

The most wildly creative era remains, even today, the Belle Epoque. The city took over the hills where the "winterers", members of the aristocracy or the European bourgeoisie, gave free rein to their desires and imagination. Castles and palaces were born nestled in green settings with elaborate designs such as the Château de l'Anglais, a baroque building inspired by the Orient, the Musée des Beaux-Arts, the Château de Valrose - today the Faculty of Sciences is one of the finest campuses in Europe. Another jewel of the city, the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of Saint-Nicolas, recently renovated, attests to the attraction that the imperial family felt for Nice. Built at the foot of the Imperial Park, which has become one of the nicest high schools in France, it is considered to be the most beautiful Russian church in Western Europe and contains exceptional icons, woodwork and frescos. Of course, the Hotel Negresco, a listed historic monument and regularly selected as one of the best palaces in the world, but also the Régina, the Grand Hotel... are witnesses to this privileged holiday destination.

13

Art Déco The inter-war period marked the need for a revolution in urban planning... The Cornudet plan and the will of Jean Médecin lead to make Nice a great modern city. The Art Deco style was in vogue and responded to the imperatives of the time: use of modern materials and techniques, the possibility of mass production, and the global consideration of lifestyle. The main arteries were opened up, the Promenade des Anglais was redeveloped, and buildings replaced villas. Another style for another life. There remains a heritage of more than 4,000 buildings, the most emblematic of which are the Palais de la Méditerranée (façade), the Gloria Mansions, the Rotonde, the Palladium... The Sainte Jeanne d'Arc and Notre Dame de l'Auxilliatrice churches are two very different examples of this style, but they are both bearers of the art of the time and show that art deco is not just geometric lines... To do: Guided tour of the Promenade des Anglais, Sainte Jeanne d'Arc Church, Gloria Mansions Association Guided tour "Nice, winter resort city”

What they said about Nice... "When I understood that every morning I would see this light again, I could not believe my happiness... I decided not to leave Nice and I stayed there practically all my life. Henri Matisse (20th century painter).

"I have never found anything more beautiful than this inspired hill, neither Capri nor the radiant bay of Salamis can be compared to it. I have found́ my city, it is Nice." Hector Berlioz (20th century composer).

"Nice has all the amenities of a capital city without having the disadvantages." Paul Valery (late 19th and early 20th century writer).

14

Contemporary art

Architecture

Contemporary art is at the heart of the life and culture of Nice.

The end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century did not escape this effervescence. Neighbourhoods were born and changed the face of the city to the west. The Arénas, a business district close to the airport, as well as the Eco-Vallée, a district devoted to sustainable development, are the showcases. In the city, a few remarkable buildings bear witness to this, such as the Chagall Museum by Hermant- the MAMAC (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art), the Villa Arson, close to Brutalism, a heritage of the 20th century by Marot- but also the Museum of Asian Arts by Kenzo Tange, the Louis Nucera Library with its square head by Sosno, the Allianz Riviera stadium by Wilmotte- and, more recently, David Libeskind's Iconic...

15

Music The Nice Jazz Festival, -the first jazz festival in the world in Nice in 1948-, Crossover -electronic music festival-, the Summer Academy and the concerts at the Cimiez Cloister -a must for more than 50 years-, and finally the Opera of Nice.

Plastic arts

Literature

Without going back to time immemorial, the primitives were already imprinting their styles which have become references, Durandi, the Bréa family, and even shortly after the Van Loo. Closer to us, the impressionists, the artists of the beginning of the 20th century such as Matisse, Chagall and others found a home for their art. The famous "Ecole de Nice", which covers several movements, was a driving and inspiring artistic current from the middle of the 20th century. Today, contemporary creation remains very present in the city. Artists' studios, galleries and collectives or institutions offer themselves to the public. The majority of its actors have joined BOTOX(S), an association for the promotion of contemporary art which brings them together in Nice and the surrounding area, such as la “Station”, a creative workshop and a place for the promotion of artists.

The city has inspired many writers, including the natives: Le Clézio, Van Cauwelaert, Nucéra, Gallo, Francis Gag (and his theatre in the Nice language); others: G. Apollinaire, L. Aragon, J. Romain, R. Gary, R. Martin du Gard, F. Nietzsche... with a special mention for Tobias Smollett, a Scotsman whose writings discovered the city to the English.

This non-exhaustive evocation concerns pictorial and plastic art. However, this same reality can be found in music, writing, cinema... in all fields where expression stand out. Each era is represented. Numerous places or events attest to this, for example: the 20 institutional museums, galleries and all the contemporary art galleries, Botox(S) and its Saturday or evening visitors, as well as the works of Art in the city, first and foremost those accompanying the tramway.

16

Nice, a nature and slow tourism destination Here, the Alps fall into the sea. The Alpine arc ends its course in the big blue. From the edge of these cliffs and eagle's nests, the gaze is absorbed in the contemplation of the marine immensity, revealing an incomparable art of living and offering all the possibilities for a tourist stay.

N

ice offers, at the bend of its streets, green spaces, unknown by tourists. They draw new and dreamlike landscapes. The mild climate has allowed the acclimatisation of numerous plant species from all over the world. This palette of shapes and colours has inspired many botany and garden enthusiasts. With more than 300 hectares and 19 parks and gardens, Nice has chosen to be "the green city of the Mediterranean". Each area has its own identity, its own rare species and its own charm. The Promenade du Paillon, to name but one, revolutionises the heart of the city, creating a 12-hectare garden. From the MAMAC, the museum of modern and contemporary art, to the Promenade des Anglais, it is a greenery place that is offered to pedestrians. Thus, nature is everywhere in Nice and there are many possibilities to discover the city in the "slow tourism" movement. On foot, of course, from the narrow, colourful streets of the old town to the hypnotic blue of the Bay of Angels along the Promenade des Anglais, everything in Nice invites you to stroll and contemplate.

Nice has also been awarded the national "Ville Vélo Touristique" label. It offers a welcome, services and equipment adapted to cycle tourism, and plans to significantly increase the network of cycle paths. The "Vélo bleu" scheme allows self-service rental of bicycles and electric bikes on the public domain. It is also possible to discover Nice by bike thanks to "Nice Essentiel", a 6 km family route for those wishing to visit Nice differently. Everywhere, during a walk, springs, fountains and water points mark out the way, from the vertiginous waterfall of the Colline du Château, through the water mirror of the Promenade du Paillon to the vast Mediterranean. Everywhere, during a walk, springs, fountains and water points mark out the way. Water activities are legion: swimming, snorkelling, kayaking, diving, towed buoys, rowing, paddling or boat excursions, there is something for everyone.

The "Lou Camin Nissart", the first 43 km long GR de Pays in the Alpes-Maritimes, allows you to discover the city, its architectural, historical or plant heritage through walking routes accessible to all. In the same way, it is possible to take one of the 9 "discovery loops" which reveal all the facets of Nice, from the coastal path to the heights of the Mont Boron.

17

Nice, a land of sport The territory extends from the marinas of the Mediterranean to the ski resorts of the Mercantour National Park and offers an exceptional playground for outdoor activities.

W

ith these assets, Nice has affirmed its desire to make sport one of its priority areas of development: support for competition centres and high-level sportsmen and women as well as numerous amateur clubs with the creation of modern and innovative facilities or the implementation of a policy of sports events... Nice is developing a strategy of regularly hosting major international sporting events: prestige matches of the Top 14, such as the 2022 semi-finals, or teams from France. It is also the host city of the Rugby World Cup France 2023 or the IRONMAN 2023 World Championship, the 2024 Olympic Games in football as well as the arrival of the Tour de France 2024. After 200 years of excellence, Nice has entered a new cycle, a new dynamic phase in which sport has a prominent place. All the people of Nice as well as visitors have the opportunity to try out soft activities or to surpass themselves. Hiking, cycling, of course, but not only: water sports, swimming or diving..., nature sports such as climbing, via ferrata,... air sports, with paragliding or parasailing... The main thing is to move in harmony with the environment or one's body.

The main recurring sports events: “La Prom Classic” in Nice – January (running) The finish of the cyclist race "Paris-Nice" – March The international half-marathon of Nice – April The IRONMAN and Ironman 70.3 in Nice – June The finish of the "Tour Voile" sailing race in Nice – July The Ultratrail Côte d’Azur Mercantour - July "Marathon international des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes "– November

The National Sports Museum, located in the Allianz Riviera stadium, traces the history of sport in France through one of the largest collections in the world. Built up over time, it is a real heritage treasure because of its richness and the chronological period covered. These collections of very different materials, sizes and aspects date from the 16th century for the oldest and from the 19th and 20th centuries for the vast majority. The museum currently has over 45,000 objects and 400,000 documents. The permanent exhibition has a very dynamic design and is divided into four areas devoted to: the challenge to oneself, the challenge from man to man, the collective challenge and the challenge beyond limits. Visitors are invited to test themselves...

Nice, a unique art of living Nice's cuisine has, uniquely with Lyon, the name of its city in its appellation. Close to the Crete model, it reflects the art of living and the respect of regional products, always accompanied by the famous olive oil and all the aromatic plants. Nice's cuisine even has a quality label: "Cuisine Nissarde, respect for tradition" and is listed as a national heritage.

Places of exception: For a more original culinary experience, some addresses offer tastings in an exceptional setting.

ice wants to promote this cuisine by offering a place where traditional culinary skills can be passed on and learned. "L'Atelier Cuisine Niçoise" offers courses, competitions, conferences, product presentations and discoveries of craftsmen in the heart of Old Nice. In recent years, a number of young chefs have set up shop and opened some of the best addresses in the world. Lifestyles are changing and so is the gastronomic range on offer. The menus are becoming simpler, local and seasonal products are taking centre stage. Organic, vegetarian and even vegan or mixed restaurants are becoming more and more numerous. A cosmopolitan city, Nice has also seen the arrival of many foreign chefs who have created a range of flavours that are a must-try. A land of gastronomy par excellence, Nice has 6 Michelin-starred restaurants. This reflects the high profile of local gastronomy and its quality. The mythical Chantecler* at the Negresco or the table of the South African Jan* rub shoulders with the creativity of the Agitateurs, the subtle flavours of the Aromate*, the food and wine pairings of Pure & V* and the prestige of the two-starred Flaveur**.

On the water’s edge, on a beach restaurant, at Le Galet or La Baïeta, some of which are open all year round like Le Beau Rivage; or a little closer to the stars on a rooftop. This fashionable trend is perfectly suited to Nice, where the weather is mild and many hotels have the opportunity to set up their rooftops, often with a breathtaking view of the city, the sea or the mountains. The rooftop SEEN at the Anantara Plaza, the Farago at the AC Marriott, the bar at the Aston la Scala, the rooftop 17 at the Monsigny Hotel or the more recent Bocca Nissa in the heart of the old town are all addresses to try. The most daring can try a meal in the dark, a concept that is occasionally offered.

AND KNOW-HOW / TO BE TESTED : Nice is also an agricultural town with 2 AOP's on its territory: Olives -AOP on the Nice olive, its oil and paste-, and wine -PDO on the Bellet wine, white, rosé and red- Citrus fruits and other market garden crops have always been part of the local economy and shaped́ its terraced landscape. Flowers have long been a factor of renown, with the carnation leading the way. The number of farms without pesticides and chemical fertilizers in the Alpes-Maritimes is 2.5 times the national average.

The olive The olive tree, cultivated since antiquity, has become the symbol, in more ways than one, of Mediterranean culture... Nice's "Appellation d'Origine Protégée" olive oil is made from olives picked from November to April. This A.O.P. concerns three distinct products: the table olive, the olive oil and the olive paste (not to be confused with tapenade). Traditionally, the harvest is done by a traditionnal falling method. The olives are then eaten at the table or transformed into olive paste or tapenade, a condiment already appreciated by the Romans. Olive oil has many dietetic virtues which make it a very popular product today!

The wine of Bellet The Bellet vineyard is one of the oldest in France and its planting probably dates back to the time of the Phocaean foundation of Marseille. Vine growing has long been an integral part of the agricultural landscape. Today, it has focused on prestigious organic and even biodynamic wine production. This is how the appellation "Vins de Bellet" came into being, named after one of the hills where the vineyards are spread out and was one of the first AOCs in 1941. It covers about 650 ha of which 65 ha are in operation, entirely in the commune of Nice.

From the small craftsman to the large shopping centre Nice, resolutely turned towards culture and agriculture, has a good number of skills and small craftsmen. From the last remaining oil mill in the city to the cultivation of flowers and market garden produce. These skills are now available in unusual experiences such as perfume creation workshops at Molinard, discovery of the Saquier vegetable garden during theme days, wine tasting in one of the Bellet vineyards or woofing (i.e. immersion) in a farm. All the city's districts are full of local craftsmen's shops, often established for several generations and helping to preserve this authentic heritage. In the narrow streets of the old town, on the outskirts of the port and around Place Masséna, there are also a multitude of more modern pop-up stores, trendy shopping addresses and other workshops of young designers, such as Stéphanie Marin, a renowned designer based near the port. The most assiduous shoppers are sure to find something to their liking among the 237 boutiques in the nearby Cap 3000 or Polygone shopping centres.

The picturesque markets The markets remain some of the city's most popular places to live. They reflect local production and changes in lifestyle: organic and sustainable products, small circuits and seasonal produce are all present. The Cours Saleya, one of the liveliest places in the Old Nice is a must for tourists and residents alike: The Marché aux Fleurs, classified by the Conseil National des Arts Culinaires as one of the most exceptional markets in France, is held there every day from 6 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., except on Mondays. The Fruit and Vegetable Market is a true Mediterranean market, which takes place from Tuesday to Sunday from 6 am to 1 pm. The Antiques Market is a bargain hunter's paradise. Mondays from 7 am to 6 pm. From June to September, a Craft Market enlivens the Cours Saleya every night except Mondays. In a fast-developing district, where the most diverse shop rub shoulders with contemporary art galleries, the city's most important market is set up. The Marché de la Libération includes a wide range of local production.

Nice, a MICE destination The Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolitan Convention Bureau is now working to promote a territory extended to the 51 communes that make up the metropolitan area. With all the landscapes and tourist infrastructures at its disposal, this territory offers an extremely rich business tourism offer, both in summer and winter.

T

he unity of this area, unique in Europe, between the 8 coastal towns, from Cagnessur-Mer to Cap d'Ail, and the 7 resorts of the Mercantour, including Isola 2000 and Auron, as well as the hilltop villages of the middle country, such as Vence, Saint-Jeannet, Falicon, etc., creates a new dynamism that is conducive to the organisation of all professional projects and events (congresses, seminars, incentives, product launches, exhibitions, conferences, meetings, team-building, etc.)

Many sites are perfectly suited to hosting gala dinners and large events: the port, the Quai des Etats-Unis, the Cimiez Arena, the vineyards, certain museums, etc. All this information is developed on the dedicated meet-in-nice website and in the specific press kit.

Nice remains an ideal destination for international MICE tourism, which accounts for one in four stays. It has a vast offer with infrastructures recognised for the quality of their services.

As a showcase for business tourism in the throes of change, Nice will have an Exhibition and Congress Center within the Eco-Vallée, close to the airport. Another "Acropolis bis" structure, located at the port, will open its doors to host the Ocean Summit in 2025. The objective is to receive major trade shows, whose needs for exhibition space are constantly growing.

Thus, some thirty hotels easily accommodate meetings, seminars and congresses, from 15 to 500 participants. There are also buildings such as the Allianz Riviera stadium and the Palais Nikaïa which offer wider perspectives.
