November 17, 18 and 19 marked OTHS’s 2011 fall play, “A Christmas Carol”. Following closely to the book by Charles Dickens. The story begins on Christmas Eve with an annoyed and angry Ebenezer Scrooge, played by sophomore Alex Shelton, who’s persuaded to spread some holiday cheer. After “shooing” and “bah humbugging” the various neighborhood residents, Scrooge leaves his office and heads home for the night. While settling into bed, Scrooge is confronted by the ghost of his deceased friend and business colleague, Jacob Marley, played by sophomore Tori Rogers, telling Scrooge that if he doesn’t want to end up like him, Scrooge must agree to be haunted by three ghosts: The Ghost of Christmas Past, The Ghost of Christmas Present and The Ghost of Christmas Kameron Johnson

Yet to Come. At one o’ clock, Scrooge meets the The Ghost of Christmas Past, played by senior Jessica Kerr, and is forced to relive events in his life that relate to the current situation he’s in and makes him think about the decisions he’s made in his life. The first flashback is of Scrooge and his birthplace. Scrooge is seen as a young boy at school and later transitions to Scrooge as a young adult meeting his fiancee, and the eventual break-up after she becomes aware of his obsession with wealth and well-being After being returned back to his

bedroom after several flashbacks, The Ghost of Christmas Present, played by senior Kurtis Breger, appears and whisks Scrooge away to experience the day of Christmas and the resentment people feels towards him. He firsts takes him to the house of Bob Cratchit, played by senior Michael Jordan, where he shows the Cratchit’s mediocre feast and their crippled son Tiny Tim, played by Joshua Huffines, the younger brother a cast member. During the midst of The Ghost of Christmas Present’s haunting, the somber Ghost of Christmas Future, played by sophomore Dirk Huse-

mann, appears and shows Scrooge his future if he continues to walk down his angry and greedy path. The visions show people’s dislike and even hatred of Scrooge, and eventually, Scrooge’s death bed and grave stone. Upon seeing this horrible sight and being returned back to his house, Scrooge promises to change for the better and promptly runs outside to make amends to the people he has inadvertently harmed. He does this by delivering a great Christmas turkey to Bob Cratchit’s as well as giving him a raise to help support his ailing family. He also pledges to donate large amounts of money to the poor. Scrooge then attends his nephew Fred’s Christmas party where he shocks everyone with his heartfelt cheer. This ending to the story leaves a warm feeling in the hearts of the crowd.
