The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) was set up by the Timber trade, users, environmental and human rights organisations and takes the approach of thinking more broadly about the environment and implementing/promoting sustainable environmental practices. The PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) focuses on sustaining well managed forests but has a less holistic approach, being more closely linked to the Timber trade. As the paper in this book carries both the FSC and PEFC logos, you are safe in the knowledge that the paper composition is from well managed and/or controlled forests and avoids illegally harvested wood and areas where wildlife is endangered.
