‘‘ In the current music industry where radios, TV and streaming are the big players deciding to spread
the word about an artist (or not), it becomes more and more difficult for new artists to get their music heard if they don’t meet some criteria. It takes time, it takes patience, talent but above all it takes a lot of hard work.
At On The Move Magazine, we give a particular attention to talent no matter where you come from, your musical genre, the amount of followers/views/fans you have got. We don’t talk quantity, we talk quality. We talk quality because we love music with the big M. We carefully choose the artists you’ll discover in this magazine to introduce you to «la crème de la crème». You’ll find big names, you’ll find unknown names. You’ll love what you’ll listen to, maybe you will hate it but at least, you’ll give our artists a chance. Because at the end of the day, every success story began with a chance given. ‘‘

12 FEMALE ARTISTS TO REDEFINE POP
music video OF THE MONTH
In a world dominated by men and male artists, what’s more refreshing than seeing young, fearless, talented and authentic women raising their voices and taking over the pop music industry? Last month, we picked 12 of them to show that female artists really are the future of music! Read all about it in our OTMMag #12.
PANIC! AT THE DISCO SAY AMEN
SAVE THE DATE
After a week of cryptic clues to their fans, the band released the music video for their brand new single «Say Amen (Saturday Night)». If you look closely, the video is part of a trilogy that acts as the prequel to ‘This Is Gospel’ and ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’, all directed by the same guy, Cloud. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Panic!
otm playlist it happened 10 years ago The year is 2008. 3 years after the release of their debut album «A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out», Panic! At The Disco is finally back with a new era : «Pretty. Odd». This new album was mainly inspired by the work of The Beatles and the Beach Boys and adds a nice psychedelic-styled rock touch to the boys’ discography. Don’t wait any longer, go listen to your old classics such as «Nine In The Afternoon» and «Northern Downpour».

CARNAGE If we had to describe Carnage, we would first use the word ambitious and perfectionnist : two qualities that can turn into flaws when you’re one of the most powerful and versatile DJs/producers of your generation. Carnage doesn’t have anything to left to prove when it comes to EDM, Trap, Hip-hop or Hardcore : he juggles with it like no other. After the success of «Papi Gordo» in 2015, the man with numerous collaborations and side-projects is back with «Battered Bruised & Bloody» through his own record label Heavyweight Records. But far from being content with his only musical career, the Guatemalan-American gives a lot of his time, energy and money to help others - whether they are young artists or peers in need. So, in his case, with ambition and perfectionism come an extreme generosity. Read that for yourself.
O
n The Move: Hi Diamante! You’ve been involved in a lot of collaborations and side projects these past few years. In 2017, you released the « Step Brothers » EP with G-Eazy and the « Young Martha » EP with Young Thug. Why does this year feel like the right time for a Carnage album? Carnage: Because I have done a lot of things these past few years, without knowing where I was gonna go. But now, I’ve been holding a bunch of songs for my album, some I did two years ago and some I just finished last week. Now, it’s just the perfect music that I want to put on. It just feels good, like it was time you know. On The Move: Streaming platforms have transformed the way we consume music. Especially in your field, more and more artists choose to release multiple singles and EPs instead of albums. Why did you choose to release a proper album eventually? Carnage: Because I’m an artist ! I’m not a robot. A lot of people kind of want to follow rituals to make easy money, sell a lot of shows but I’m not about that! I don’t really care about the money. I care about artistry and making something that will last forever. Timeless music.
« I care about artistry and making something that will last forever » On The Move: What can we expect from your upcoming album «Battered, Bruised and Bloody»? Carnage: Bangers! It is just really good music. That’s all you can expect. I can’t really explain it because I still don’t really know what it is, what I made but it’s just good music to me. On The Move: Is there a track that feels pretty special to you that you would want to talk about? Carnage: I have a song called « Waterworld » on my album, it’s with Migos. I have made 17 versions of the song, each version is different in some way. But I needed to get it perfect. Khalid is on the tune. We might release his version later on but it is really one of my best works yet. I put a lot of time and sweat into it, during long nights, trying to get everything settled. I mixed and mastered the whole album myself too. I just try to do everything so that I can make it unique!
On The Move: You’re evoking the notion of time. We read in another interview that you said : « Nobody really puts time in what they’re doing anymore ». Is time the key to make great music? Carnage: Yes, I feel like time is the key. I’ve been blessed enough to have things that allow me to be flexible with my time, you know. A lot of people kind of freak out like « I need to put out a single! And blablabla! » I’ve been blessed to have fans to hold me up so I can sit back and just do my stuff. For me, some of the works have needed two years and some others are very recent. Time is elastic also. Some tracks just take a longer path. When you’re producing and you’re mixing and you’re mastering everything, it needs a lot of time. But that’s just what I like, I wouldn’t have it any other way! On The Move: In which conditions are you the most creative? Carnage: When I start making a beat, I have a thought process of who I wanna get on it. Usually, I have a list of three people I wanna collaborate with. And if I can’t get one of those three, I’m like « Oh my god, let’s work on something else! » I have a vision for everything, from the melody to the chorus to the instruments to the music video to the press shots... I think of everything because I want to build a lifeform! I like to put time and money into my music videos. I’ve always been the kind of person that wants to put out cool music videos. I feel like the visuals mean a lot because it kind of tells you who the artist is, you know. I also like to give everybody a package. I like to give the whole meal, not just the appetizer or the dessert! And you can’t eat the meal without a fork, and the fork is my editoria (laughs). On The Move: And overall, where do you draw your inspiration from? Carnage: Well, the idea of a song can go so deep but also not go so deep. It just depends on where I want to take it you know. It can be a meaningful song that has a whole story behind or just be a banger! I just like to do both, finding the balance. On The Move: Collaborations seem to be at the core of your tracks. Is there any current artist you would like to collaborate with? Carnage: I’d say MHD!
11
On The Move: With a new album will follow a tour. What are the ingredients of a great live show to you? Carnage: Just playing a bunch of Carnage music (laughs). Yeah man, a good DJ, a good crowd, a great interaction between the two, some hot girls, some loud music, good speakers. Not just the set itself but what comes around with it. The environment, the atmosphere... that’s what makes everything good and what I like! The whole thing. I remember one day playing my « Space Man » festival trap remix and being so caught up in the moment that I ended up crying. My family was watching from above in second floor, it was like an out of body experience really. That was pretty crazy, yeah! For my bigger shows this summer, we’re including all the new stuff and I’m going to do be doing a whole new set that we’re premiering soon. So it will be really cool, yeah ! We’ll see where it goes.
« I have a vision for everything » On The Move: You also organize shows, through the Rare Festival. Where does this come from? Carnage: Rare comes from me playing a lot of festivals in the world and being sick and tired of political bullshit in all these festivals. I just don’t like a lot of people and I don’t wanna listen to other people, I don’t wanna follow other people’s rules. I wanna create something where I’m not going to propose the same line-ups, the headliners as everybody else. I wanna give the people something new and exciting to look forward to. A lot of festivals are tiring in America. I wanted to switch it up and give people something new. Especially people who like harder music. You’re not gonna go to Rare and hear some sappy, sad shit. You’re gonna go there and fucking party. I mean, we sold over 100 000 tickets since we started it. It sold out 8 different locations, 8 different times. It’s only in America for now but we’re going to be announcing our first international show soon! You have to be big when you come front, when you want to explore that. People wouldn’t like to take the job too soon because then, nothing falls back on. We’re good though in America, no one else is doing what I’m doing! So now, we’re going to see how big we can take it. On The Move: Is there any new artists you would like to enlighten here?
Carnage: Anybody on HeavyWeight records, my new record label. Well, we’re not exactly a record label, we’re just finding music and putting it out there. We’re creating artists, we’re creating brands, we’re creating something that is bigger than other brands on the table. If you’re bringing us something, we’re going to magnify it and make it any times bigger. We have a small circle but we wanna grow each person. We have a lot of artists : there’s Gommi who makes hard, psy trance and it’s very intense but it’s nice level, it’s great production, really refreshing. We have Greavedgr who makes very hard next level trap, hard style, harder stuff. We have Lockdown, who makes real down bouncy techno. He was on my last track with Steve Aoki « Plur Genocide ». From Australia, they make this sound, like if you were in Berlin but more bouncy. Man, we have a lot of artists coming out through HeavyWeight and all of these artists are tight! I associate myself with good music man. At the end of the day, as much as you can hate me, you can never say that I associate myself with bad music! I feel like a lot of people in this industry are just afraid to take risks and a lot of people are afraid to take weight on their shoulders and to make something bigger, you know! A lot of people are content and happy with what they are that but I always wanna grow, I always wanna take everything to the next level. I wanna be like the first afro-latino in the dance industry! On The Move: Talking about helping others, you also play a role in philanthropy, particularly recently for the victims of hurricanes Irma and Harvey in the US. Do you feel like being a public figure makes it a duty to act for such causes? Carnage : No, it doesn’t make it anybody’s duty. You can’t tell anybody what’s his duty or not! For me, it is just how I was raised. I was raised in Guatemala and I’ve seen some pretty shitty things going on. But I’ve been lucky enough to see both sides. I’ve seen the really poor side and I was always raised to give back. Two and a half years ago, I built a school in Nicaragua, because my bloodline is in Nicaragua, so I obviously had to give back to my own country. I feel like if you have it all and you’re not gonna do anything with it, then why not give it to a good cause? And I’m hispanic, hispanic people are very helpful to each other. The hurricanes happened, a lot of hispanic people were in the cities touched and I’ve seen my people struggle so I want to help out! Use my voice, use my money. I think money talks louder than words. At least, I am making a difference, you know. No one can hold that against me!

LOVELYTHEBAND
a taste of California’s warmth
If you love MGMT, Grouplove or Pixies, this band coming straight from Los Angeles is for you. And as we love to make you discover multi-faceted artists who express real emotions, you are served ladies and gentlemen! Led by Mitchy Collins of indie-pop band Oh Honey, with guitarist Jordan Greenwald and drummer Sam Price, three guys in love with music since their earliest age, lovelytheband was formed in an unusual way ... that is to say during a drunk evening in West Hollywood! Lovelytheband is basically Mitchy Collins’ project, whose creativity overflowed and resulted in the creation of tracks that would sound very much different from what he was already producing with Oh Honey. He then met Jordan and Sam a little later in 2016, things instantly clicked and the three friends were ready to make it a unique musical project. And we must say that their rise is dazzling for such a recent band: having unveiled the very catchy «Broken» in July 2017, followed by an EP in September, the Californian band was quickly part of the «10 rock & alternative acts to watch in 2018» list by Billboard, who had premiered the single. A few months later and «Broken» accumulates not far from 10 million plays on Spotify and reached the third position of the alternative charts of the American weekly music magazine. Lovelytheband are also supporting the American leg of Vance Joy’s world tour as opening act during the months of April and May and the band will also play at the renowned US Lollapalooza Festival this summer. A pretty full program but it also shows the accomplishment of three talents contributing honorably to the DNA of indie-pop. Each song of their first EP «everything i could never say» is worth listening to and enjoying. The band delivers a simple but effective lyricism, which directly conveys the desired emotions and is put forward (in a more or less contradictory way) by an upbeat sound and therefore joyful atmosphere. Here, we adhere to a musical landscape highlighted by the characteristic warmth of the American west coast, carried by dominant swirling guitars but also electronic elements skillfully integrated. The band discusses themes that each of us becomes familiar with at one point or another in our lives, such as anxiety, relationships, loneliness or youth, so
we can easily identify with lyrics as Mitchy Collins says about “Broken” : “Everyone is a little bit broken inside, trying to find their band-aid. Nobody’s perfect.” Lonelytheband is now in the middle of preparing a studio album, whose foretaste would let us think that it will be a hymn to our perfect imperfections as humans!
Listen if you are a fan ofPure-indie pop that leaves your heart all warm.
One song to listen toOur pick is without any doubt “strangers” with its beautiful guitar-driven melody.

ANDERSON .PAAK Dr. Dre’s protégé These last years have seen the full rise of new R & B artists with different horizons as their sounds. While some dominate the charts, others emerge on the scene like the prodigy we are introducing you to: Anderson .Paak. Although his stage name has only recently begun to stand out on the music scene, Anderson .Paak, whose real name is Brandon Paak Anderson, made music his profession in 2009. Like generations of African-American musicians before him, Anderson .Paak built the foundation of his career during his childhood at church where he learned to play the drums. After experiencing tumultuous and difficult personal situations during his childhood and teenage years, including jobs that left him homeless for a while, the American got back on his feet in 2011 with the help of SaRa, a hip-hop group from Los Angeles who integrated him into their team as assistant, videographer and composer. At the same time, he began working on a debut album «O.B.E Vol.1» which was released in 2012 under the pseudonym Breezy Lovejoy. The 32-year-old Californian, who has now become a singersongwriter, rapper, drummer and producer, continued his musical projects under his current pseudonym and thus released the album «Venice» in 2014 as well as 3 EPs, one of which he did in collaboration with the producer and composer Knxwledge (who worked with Kendrick Lamar among others). This collaboration rapidly bore fruit and the song «Suede» became viral. So viral that it caught the attention of Dr. Dre in 2015! The latter then invited him into his studio and it was the beginning of a beautiful story for Anderson .Paak who quickly became the little protégé of the rap giant. He found himself almost instantly busy co-producing and singing on Dr. Dre’s «Compton» album. In 2016, he signed at the label «Aftermath Entertainment» founded by Dr. Dre himself. A few months later, «Malibu» was born and Anderson .Paak was put in the limelight. The album, which received a Grammy nomination the same year in the category «Best Urban Contemporary Album» and whose
singles «Come Down» and «Am I Wrong» respectively accumulate more than 30 million plays on Spotify, is a warm and hazy mix of styles, from funk, jazz, reggae, to trap, soul, and rock. A mix skillfully rooted in R&B and hip-hop. Proud of this new generation of R&B in which he belongs, Anderson .Paak has the advantage of exploring new sounds and thus brings a wind of renewal within giants of rap or hip-hop. His slightly hoarse voice, accompanied by a soulful timbre, harmonizes perfectly with his musical landscape. Although he didn’t unveil new musical projects last year, the rumor has it that Anderson .Paak was in studio with Chance The Rapper, Bruno Mars, Nile Rodgers but also Disclosure. He has also announced that he was working on his new album with the help of his mentor Dr. Dre and recently presented a new single called «Til It’s Over». This new single marks a significant change regarding what the rapper had accustomed us to until now but this demonstrates once again the new horizons he seems to embrace without any complexes. «Til It’s Over» showcases the singer’s peculiar voice against a background of smooth, beat-controlled EDM. The title was also chosen by Apple for an advertisement directed by the talented Spike Jonze and starring the singer FKA Twigs. So keep an eye on Anderson .Paak because he’s on to bigger things!
Listen if you are a fan ofVic Mensa, Kendrick Lamar, Chance The Rapper… rest assured you’ll find what you were looking for!
One song to listen to“Am I Wrong” for a tropical vibe, groovy bassline and enchanting vocals. You’ll find yourself dancing to this song in a matter of seconds!

JULIANDER THE NEXT SWEDISH POP GEM Zara Larsson, Tove Lo, Agnes, Elliphant or Léon... The past few years have seen a nice collection of Swedish female talents being brought into the lights. Though we are absolutely fond of their music, we could have asked ourselves where were boys in Sweden? Don’t look any further, Juliander is coming for you. Coming from northern lands, 20 year-old Swedish sensation Juliander has yet a voice to warm any cold soul. You just need to throw an ear to his «Afterglow» EP to mesure his fine sensitivity and his rare maturity, pouring out of his words and interpretation. And maybe you’ll realize this voice isn’t exactly stranger to you! Indeed, Juliander has already collaborated with some of the hottest DJs at the moment, such as Alan Walker. On the live version of « All Falls Down », Juliander has shared the stage with Noah Cyrus. Far from his own soft and airy universe, Juliander’s voice warmed up the whole track, bringing contrast in it and setting some sort of duality with Noah Cyrus’ fiery voice. When listening to Juliander’s track, what hits you immediately is an atmosphere of its own. At times smooth, tinged with electro hints, but also very light and uplifting, his tracks’ instrumental, in particular in the single « Afterglow », seems to have been constructed to perfecly enhance the artist’s voice, and give him space to express.
We can’t wait to hear more him. Do not hesitate to spread the word about the melodic and touching world of Juliander!
Listen if you are a fan ofThe 1975 obviously! But not exclusively. We can think of The Cure or Chvrches more recently.
One song to listen to« « My Obsession » if you want to be mesmerized by ethereal vocals combined to captivating melodies.
WordS by Lénaelle fontaine with coraline blaise PHOTO : ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
On « Same Moon », the singer injects some RnB groovy accents, when in « The Chance », this is the acoustic rhythm that takes over, along with warm choirs, added to just magnify it all. As the EP unravels, Juliander’s voice range almost becomes hypnotic, especially on « The One ». When it comes to music videos, it is also simplicity that serves Juliander’s art best. For example, « Afterglow » is illustrated by a shot between lights and shadows, where the singer plays with his own image and gives space to a flawless interpretation. For « Same Moon », it was only Juliander and his piano. See, even with a Thor look-alike, no need to do much to make the magic happen!
Juliander’s EP «Afterglow» was out in February 2018

VANCE JOY After a massive success met with the release of his first studio album «Dream Your Life Away» in 2014 including hit song «Riptide», Vance Joy, James Keogh of his real name, has established himself as one of the safe bets in the folk scene and has since then accumulated positive critics as well as multiple tours around the world. After some time without hearing from our favourite Australian singer, his second highly anticipated record «Nation Of Two», as personal as enchanting, arrived last month. Four years separate these two albums, four years that allowed the artist to musically mature. On The Move was able to meet Vance Joy during his stint in Paris for an exclusive interview!
23
O
n The Move: Hello James! Thanks a lot for having us today. You released your second album “Nation Of Two” a few weeks ago. Did you feel the pressure usually tied to a sophomore album? Vance Joy: Actually not too much. I mean I felt a bit of pressure going into my first album because I released an EP and I think there was a real sense of expectation and I felt a bit of pressure from my record label, you know like “the sooner the better” and then when I finally got the first album out, it felt like a relief to have my first one done. And then with the second one, the main pressure was writing enough songs and I think when I finally got off the road at the start of 2016 after touring for about two and a half years I was like “I need twelve songs” and that was enough pressure. It wasn’t even the pressure of trying to meet the same standards, it was just the pressure of where do the songs come from? Luckily they came along. So when I got to the point that I knew I was going to have enough songs I was relieved and now I feel relaxed to just have it out!
« ‘NATION OF TWO’ IS PROBABLY MORE CONSISTENT AS AN ALBUM » On The Move: Were you already building up this album on the road or did you actually work on it once back at home? Vance Joy: There were parts that I started to compose on tour, I wrote here and then. When I came off the road I think I had two songs written. I find that when I’m writing on the road it’s usually just little bits like the seed or the start of a song but not the full thing. It’s usually just ideas and I think I definitely have a lot of ideas, I have all of my ideas in my phone but yeah I definitely needed that time of quiet, just to put the pieces together. On The Move: Where does your inspiration come from on the road? Is it different from your daily life? Vance Joy: Yeah! I get inspired when I’ve seen friends or family, if they come and visit me when I’m on the road, and I kind of do something that isn’t the typical day. Because on tour it’s like you get in a cycle, or a routine and you wake up on a bus, eat some food, go for a walk and come to the venue. But when your family and friends are here, it’s like you do things that are slightly more outside of that routine and because you’re hanging out with people that know you really well it’s like it nourishes your soul so I feel like that can lead to songs.
On The Move: You said you wanted to create a more solid album. Which elements did you work harder on to make it happen? Vance Joy: I think it’s probably more consistent as an album maybe, I think every single song I would want to play live which is good, I wasn’t even thinking too consciously about what I need to improve on how to make the songs more solid but I think when I look back maybe with the lyrics there are points where I would have repeated lines maybe. I need to change a couple of words even just the connecting words that can change the meaning of some of the lyrics. So I think there might be some added attention to lyrics which I think comes with writing more songs and having more people give you feedback. So I think that’s probably one area I may have improved. On The Move: Is there a song on this record that holds a special place for you? Vance Joy: There are a couple of songs but I think in the middle of the set at the moment I play two solo songs just me and the guitar and the songs are a song called “Call If You Need Me” and the other song is called “I’m With You” which is kind of like a ballad. “I’m With You” is a song that I wrote and I just have gotten good feedback about this song, probably because it’s got a lot of specific details in it and I think it’s got a pretty melody, like it kind of starts small and then it gets bigger and I sing more powerfully in the end so yeah I would say “I’m With You” is one of my favorites. On The Move: “Call If You Need Me” is the first track on your second record. How did you chose this specific place for first and last tracks? Is it important to you? Vance Joy: For sure. For first and last I spoke to my producer, who was the guy that did the whole first album, Ryan Hadlock, and he actually did the first and last tracks for the second album and he just suggested when we were doing the first album that when you’re choosing the first and last tracks, you choose those two first and that gives you, you know your bookends, and then you fill in the gaps. He said “choose songs that for you have the most emotional power” so I’ve used that as my guide and I chose those two songs because “Call If You Need Me”, I don’t know I felt like a small start even if it’s a song I feel emotionally connected to and then the final song is called “Where We Start” and it’s a gentle song and I felt like those two songs existed in similar worlds, they just kind of echoed each other.
25
On The Move: You worked with Dan Wilson (Adele, Halsey, P!nk, Taylor Swift,…), Dave Bassett and also Justin Parker (Lana Del Rey, Banks,…). What did you learn from them? Vance Joy: Working with them, say for instance those two guys, I mean all of the producers and the different people I wrote songs with but, yeah every person I’ve worked with, they have their own set of skills but also the chemistry of you with them is always exciting to explore. With Dan Wilson, he’s got so many amazing melodies, great ideas, there’s a couple of demos that he sent me with beautiful harmony ideas that we loved and we used and then Dave Bassett as well, you know I wrote a couple songs with him and I feel like he made me better, we made some kind of magic when we were sitting there and I was like “I have my idea” and he threw a few ideas and then I was like “my idea was here and now you’ve moved it this other area that I didn’t expect”. I just like the way they have their life and music existing together, like they kind of work from home and it seems like a nice balance. On The Move: Do you have a dream collaboration? Vance Joy: I’m so happy with the guys I’ve worked with so far but I mean there’s not one person I’m like “I have to work with this person!”. I don’t know but I mean there’s this guy, Greg Kurstin, he wrote a song with Adele, he’s amazing. On The Move: What would be the best compliment to give to your music? Vance Joy: What I like in music is when it hits me in the heart so like “he hit me in the heart, he got me” then I think that is good. On The Move: You drew the album artwork for “Nation Of Two”. What’s the story behind it? Did you already have an affinity with drawing or was it completely new to you? Vance Joy: I love drawing and doodling. I’m not a particularly good drawer like if you said to me “draw this cup” I would not be able to draw it from this angle now (laughs) but when we were deciding on the album artwork we did a lot of photoshoots and they were great but not exactly perfect and the record label wasn’t completely excited, it was hard to get everyone in so I was like “okay I’ll just try something else”. I kind of used some photographs that I like as inspiration and started doing some line designs and that ended up working
really well. That was fun you know, I had my pencil case, my pen and my paper and just giving a visual to a graphic designer named Pat Fox and I would send him my drawings and he would put them on the computer and get the colors right, move them into the right position and do all that design work. So that was nice to be involved in that part of it. On The Move: Do you think the visual aspect of music is essential? Vance Joy: Obviously it’s the music that matters but I guess it’s a nice way of completing the whole thing and uniting all the ideas. Like if I had looked at my album artwork and I was like “this looks not good” then I would feel a little frustrated, it would be like an annoying thing to look at all the time. So when you like the artwork and you feel like it complements the music, you feel happy about it, so I’m just happy that we got to a point that we’re just happy with it!
« What I like in music is when it hits me in the heart » On The Move: What can we expect from Vance Joy this year? Vance Joy: Lots of shows this year! Maybe some little breaks but mostly just playing shows this year and I think we will be coming back here again. It’s nice to finally be back here, playing a show because we haven’t been to Paris since like 2014. So come back and reconnect, maybe come in October or November. On The Move: And what can we expect from your new tour compared to previous ones? Vance Joy: There will be more songs to choose from, and my band is more filled out. There’s a horn section, I’ve got two horn players so yeah I think there will be a bit more energy and it will be fun! On The Move: What can we wish you for the future? Vance Joy: I would like to go on a skiing holiday at some point (laughs) so I hope I get a week to do that, but yeah I just want to keep doing music, that’s about it!

Marking his debut as an independant and solo artist, Jussie Smollet released his album «Sum Of My Music». Known around the globe for his role in the TV show «Empire», Jussie seems more than ready to stand on his own and make his voice heard. While the slow and soft beat of «Insecurities» catches our attention right from the beginning, the vintage hip-hop vibe from «Catch Your Eye» takes us right to the 90s. Mixing his musicality with activism and creativity, «Freedom» shows us love in its purest and most honest form with its powerful chorus and heart wrenching lyrics. As a whole, the album is mesmerizing as Jussie managed to match his music with his idea and heart.

After a couple of EPs, Hayley Kiyoko finally revealed her first album and the least we can say is that, with this new project, the American singer and songwriter stays really true to who she is – a bold sincere young woman. « Expectations » was released on the 30th of March and is composed of 13 tunes, among which « Curious » - the first single from the album. Like it has already been the case for former singles such as « Girls Like Girls » in 2015, Hayley Kiyoko wants to praise diversity and love here. Being part of the LGBT community herself, this is something really important to her. In this way, the cover of the album is quite explicit and shows the singer looking at a curvy naked woman. This message – that love is love no matter what – is omnipresent in Hayley’s lyrics too. Indeed, her songs are not only pop and catchy but they are quite committed too. Don’t be afraid of what you feel and be honest with yourself... This is what she would like everybody to do! Finally, we have to mention the song « What I Need » featuring Kehlani. What a prestigious collaboration for a first album ! And what a perfect match between the voices of the two artists!

The Californian indie-rock band is back with a brand new album, and this time, it’s a self-titled one. If you’re wondering if the edgy and moody attitude is still there, don’t worry, the dark beats of «Nervous» or the highpitched vocal performance of Jesse Rutherford on «Flower» will please you. On most of the tracks, the instrumentation is pleasant, modern and actually really good, but at times, the songs and lyrics feel a bit too slow or too cliché to be liked by many. Forget about «Wiped Out!», The Neighbourhood are now on the dreamy side and they’re unapologetic about it! Different, but still good after a few listens.

It’s been a long time coming but what a debut album! From the first song, «Wake Me Up», to the last one, «Useless», Fickle Friends managed to mix bubblegum pop with electro rythms and catchy bangers. «Glue» feels like a song coming straight from the 70’s with its disco vibe and perfectly mixes with «Swim» the bouncy tune of the album. Sweet and unashamed, those are the words that could describe this debut album: from summer vibes to personal and meaningful lyrics discussing important topics such as mental health, friendship and love, Fickle Friends definitely grew as a band and we are ready to hear what’s next!

Since his audition in “Britain’s Got Talent” has gone viral back in 2015, Calum Scott didn’t really rest on his laurels. He’s been working hard in order to deliver the best record he could. And for a debut album, there’s no doubt that Calum set high standards. Quality is definitely here, the arrangements are neat, presented with stringed instruments skilfully combined with electro elements, adding a certain depth to the tracks as in “What I Miss Most”. The British artist has an amazing emotional power, which he conveys by a sensitive yet distinctive voice, alternating between poignant songs and rhythmic, catchy anthems as in “You Are The Reason” and “Come Back Home” that follows right up. As he confessed to us during his last stay in Paris, the songs are introspective, deeply personal and that’s what makes it so brilliant. So we kindly urge you to listen to this beautiful musical jewel.

After signing to Hopeless Records, which gave them the exposure they deserved, and releasing their successful second album “Blush” in 2016, the British quartet has had the daunting task to deliver a third record that would draw as much attention. “I Don’t Think I Can Do This Anymore” is not revolutionary but, and we insist on the “but”, its heady choruses and melodic guitar riffs make it work and no matter what mood you’re in there’s always a song to relate to! This record is highly melancholic, somewhat very romantic and the few emotional sensitive songs add up to the many facets of the band. It’s a shame the lyrics don’t do justice to this record, but other than that, you’re in for a treat.
Top 3 tracks : Have I Told You Enough, You Left In The Worst Way, Such A Shame
Moose Blood – I Don’t Think I Can Do This Anymore Four years ago, George Ezra released his debut album and topped the charts with his hit «Budapest». With this new record, simply named «Staying At Tamara’s» the British singer strikes twice. While the opener «Pretty Shining People» is a nice folk-country song with a warm upbeat chorus, and dark lyrics, «Hold My Girl» is a heart-wrenching, emotional yet simple tune and definitely one of the best compositions on the album. Throughout the listening, the album feels very mature and an impressive progression for the singer. As the album progresses, the choruses and tunes only get bigger and bigger, until the very last song, the deep «The Beautiful Dream».

After three studio albums and a couple of successful mixtapes, Logic unveiled «Bobby Tarantino II» after making waves last year with the suicideprevention hit «1-800-273-8255» featuring Alessia Cara and Khalid. The 28 year-old rapper from the Maryland created his own success story and «Bobby Tarantino II», a sequel to his 2016 mixtape, landed at number one on the Billboard 200 and showed the world that the young rapper is set to sit with the biggest names in the rap game. Beside including prestigious collaborations with Wiz Khalifa on «Indica Badu», or «State Of Emergency» with 2 Chainz where both the rappers attacked their haters, Logic released an ambitious record showcasing a double standard of searching for his identity while breaking from the seriousness of his albums with his carefree alter ego Bobby Tarantino. On «Yuck,» his attorney Paul Rothenberg and the legendary Elton John chime in for some random monologues while he brags about selling more albums on his opening week than Harry Styles and Katy Perry on «44 More». «Bobby Tarantino II» is a diverse and versatile album that you need to have in your playlist this year. No excuse. Top 3 tracks : Overnight, Yuck, 44 more

KATRINA LAW You already know her face but get ready to see more of Katrina Law in the future! After portraying Nyssa Al Ghul, a fan favorite on the CW’s hit action adventure series «Arrow,» starring as «Mira» on the critically acclaimed STARZ series «Spartacus: Blood and Sand» and «Spartacus: Vengeance.», the actress can be seen starring opposite Ryan Kwanten and Sean Bean in Sony Crackle’s 10-episode original series «The Oath » produced by Curtis «50 Cent» Jackson. «The Oath» premiered on March 8, 2018 and we sat with Katrina to know more about this new project and her musical endeavor.
O
n The Move: Hello Katrina, thank you for being with us today. Can you tell us more about Karen Beach, your new character in The Oath? Katrina Law: Of course, I am happy to be here with you. So Karen Beach is a police officer in a non distinct place somewhere in the United States. She’s very dedicated to her job and at the same time she’s also a member of a cop gang named The Ravens. She considers The Ravens her family that she’s never had, so she’s loyal to them, she would die for them. In the series you basically see her loyalty to The Ravens get tested and you see what she is willing to do and not willing to do for this gang. On The Move: How did you approach this new role compared to the ones you had in Arrow and Spartacus? Katrina Law: It’s interesting you know because she [Karen Beach] is still a badass character who is very capable of holding herself and hanging with the boys. I think the interesting thing about this character, which really drew me to this role was that she has an amazing scene where you really get to break her down and see what it really costs to be the way she is. There wasn’t necessarily any training in regards to weapons or how to be a police officer mainly because the majority of the actors on the show have already had police or weapons trainings because of other shows so we already knew how to handle the guns and stuff like that. Also, we don’t really do police work on the show, you never see us working a case. That being said we did have Joe Halpin, the showrunner, who’s a former LAPD. He was always on set to advise us if we did happen to hold the gun wrong or entering the building incorrectly he would be like «here’s some tips on how to do it», so we always had him as backup. So I think the majority of the preparation was to dig into my own life and to find Karen within my own life. You know, loss of family, lack of support and all of this different things that maybe have come up in my life or haven’t and just kind of creating that world. It’s more about building an emotional world and not necessarily a physical one. On The Move: Do you relate to this character? Katrina Law: I do, that’s the really interesting thing about Karen Beach because from afar you look at her and at most of the characters in The Oath and think: «they are a police gang, I would never.» However, the way everything turns out allows people to start thinking that their behavior is correct. Karen is really just a girl who has never had a good family structure, who’s never had any support, who doesn’t know who her father is
and who had the crappiest mother ever and is looking for a family. When she finds these people, in order to keep them close to her she has to go down the whole ride with them and she’s willing to do it because that’s how much she needs family. On The Move: You’ve always played strong and independent female characters, do you like to play this kind of roles? Katrina Law: I love it, it’s so much fun. I think it’s really needed on television. Most of the females that I’ve met are strong, even if they are vulnerable they’re still strong so I think Karen is very well written because you see how tough she is but at the same time in some scenes you see how vulnerable she is. To be honest, most humans are that way. We present what we want people to see but who we are behind closed doors and in our own heads is usually completely different.
« Preparing the character of Karen Beach was more about building an emotional world than a physical one. » On The Move: Do you think it is important for actresses to have this kind of strong and independent roles? Katrina Law: I think it’s important because it’s reflective of life. I don’t think that actresses need to say: «this is the only role that I want to portray». On The Move: What can you tell us about Kitt Crusaders, and Waves For Water, the organizations you are working with? Katrina Law: Kitt Crusaders is a non-profit organization and the way I got involved with them is when I first moved to a house. I already had two cats and there are four cats that came in the house. I was trying to take care of all of them but that’s six cats and I wasn’t making that much money at all, so the cats started getting sick and we took one cat to the vet and the doctor says it’s gonna be like $2000. At the time I didn’t have $2000 to give but I loved this cat and I felt really bad and my friend was like «Oh I have this non-profit, give us the cats and we will take care of them» and they did and we ended up having this cat for seven more years when he would have died that year. I just remember thinking
35
«wow, how do I pay you guys back because you never asked me for a penny», so I ended up getting together with some of my Spartacus cast and said «hey, would you mind posing with some cats and we could sell these photos with our autographs on it and all the profits go to charity» and they all agreed to it which is nice because sometimes people want something in return. Eventually I got the Arrow cast involved, the Flash cast involved, I’m hoping to get The Oath cast involved so it’s been this really cool thing. It’s an ongoing process, the photos are still available for purchase, I would sign them for the rest of my life. The organizations I did a lot of work with were the American Red Cross and another program named Waves for Water, that was in Puerto Rico. The Oath was shot in Puerto Rico and we had to evacuate twice because of hurricane Irma and hurricane Maria and hurricane Maria was the one that devastated the island. After a month the production had us go back down, we had two weeks to finish of shooting and everyone was so happy we had to go back down because we wanted to support the crew and the local cast we had there. The majority of us ended up doing some kind of volunteer work with the Red Cross and Elisabeth Röhm and I basically went on the island, hand out water filters. Puerto Rico really needs help, a lot of help. If anybody wants to support those or volunteer for them, they’re both beautiful.
« We present what we want people to see but who we are behind closed doors and in our own heads is usually completely different. »
it’s just kind of ‘oh let’s drop an album’. It’s been cool because people seem to appreciate the music and some people really love it and it’s for those people that we are also happy to do it. I am really excited about our fourth album probably coming out in September of October. On The Move: Why did you choose acting over music as a daily job? Katrina Law: I grew up singing and dancing and it was always really cool but when I went to college my high school guidance advisor was like: «you can’t major in dance because you’re only going to be able to dance for 5-6 years before you don’t have a career left.», so I went in school for physical therapy and I remember thinking on my first day there « why am I doing this just because I’ve been told to, no I am going to do marine biology» (laughs). I majored in marine biology for 4 years, which I love but then my friend told me that dancers and singers were needed for "A Chorus Line" so I ended up auditioning for that and I happened to land the lead role of Cassie and I fell in love with that. Dancing was really cool, marine biology was really cool but there was something about this that made me think «this is it, this is everything that I want». I was so creatively and emotionally fulfilled by that so I went back to school and switched my major to theater and here I am.

On The Move: Can you tell us more about your musical projects? Katrina Law: I am in a band named Soundboard Fiction, we’ve been together for ten years now and we are about to release our fourth album which is kind of really cool and interesting. The great thing about the band is that everybody has a normal 9 to 5 job. I am an actor, there’s another one who’s in another band and produce their music, there’s another one who’s on tour with the Eagles cover band right now, and then the other one is a real estate agent. We basically get together a couple of times a week and then just play our music for the love of it with no goal of touring, no goal of becoming famous or making money off of it, so

SAM SMITH M
ore than three years after his first album - « In the Lonely Hour » - was released, Sam Smith finally revealed his second one, entitled « The Thrill of It All », in November. A real pleasure for our ears, which were dying to listen to his irresistible combination of pop and soul again. His lyrics are deeply moving and his single « Too Good at Goodbyes » is a massive hit... It is as if Sam Smith had never stopped being centre stage! In this way, the logical outcome of this renewed success was obviously a tour – a world tour! Indeed, Sam Smith did not only announced an European tour but also many dates in North America, Asia, Australia or even in New Zealand. With no less than 4 planned gigs at the famous Londonian O2, Sam Smith definitely plays with the big boys. He will also perform in front of 20,000 people at the Accorhotel Arena in Paris at the end of the month. In order to give you a preview of his tour, we attended his show in Newcastle, on the 21st of March, which was only the second date of « The Thrill Of It All Tour ». This was a very special night for the 25 year-old singer and songwriter since a part of his family was present in the arena. The show starts with Bruno Major as supporting act. Even if he sings in much bigger venues during the Sam Smith’s tour than he usually does, his performance is still characterised by a certain intimacy and a simplicity that is very enjoyable. He is on stage with 3 musicians, among whom a really dynamic drummer, and sings several original songs – our favourite has to be « Just the Same » - as well as a cover of « Hold on, We’re Going Home ». A few moments later, Sam Smith appears on stage in a quite theatrical way and is directly acclaimed by the audience. At the end of the stage, which has a triangular shape, the singer reveals himself progressively thanks to a stage lift system.
First, hunched up on a chair, he does not look at his fans but starts singing « Burning » in this position. Then, he stands up and the crowd gets on their feet too. From the beginning of the show, the audience can enjoy the warm voices of the 4 backing vocalists. The next song is « One Last Song », the video of which was released in November. Next, Sam Smith interprets two hits from his first album : « I’m Not the Only One » and « Lay Me Down », which is one of the first songs he ever wrote. This is obviously a real pleasure for the people who have supported him from the start. After only 4 songs out of 22 in total, the audience is already captivated. Then, the atmosphere gets intimate when Sam Smith joins his pianist and his backing vocalists to sing « I Sing Because I’m Happy », a song originally performed by Lauryn Hill. Just like it is the case in his album « The Thrill of It All », there are some beautiful gospel inspirations in his tour. Sam Smith showcases the talent of the 4 backing vocalists during the show. It was out of the question for the singer to let them still behind their mikes. The four of them actually move a lot on stage and interact with the audience. They even finish the performance of « Baby, You Make Me Crazy » on their own, acclaimed by the spectators, while Sam Smith has left to swap his suit for a loose-fitting shirt. During the show, the audience can enjoy a little cinematic interlude with the wonderful « Writing’s on the Wall », which was released in 2015 and is the key song of the 24th James Bond movie, « Spectre ». Everything and everyone is then in a complete darkness, expect Sam Smith. The song definitely highlights the high-pitched voice of the British artist and time seems suspended. With humour, the singer admits that he really likes this type of staging : « How fucking dramatic was that? I love it! ». Throughout the show, Sam Smith also sings two songs he did with Disclosure :
« Omen » and « Latch ». If the second one originally has some electro vibes, the singer restyles it on stage. Indeed, he performs the song very gently, graciously, with a much slower tempo. This moment is then perfect for the request of Sam Smith. He would like everybody in the audience to light up the room with their phones. In a few seconds only, this is done. The arena has become a starry sky and the fans sing along with the artist. Performing « Money on my Mind » and « Like I Can » in a row, two songs from his first album, Sam Smith shows that he knows how to get the crowd on their feet too. He seems to be the happiest on stage and very grateful to his fans. After Sam Smith’s outfit change, it is now time for the « depressive part of the show » like he says. Although he introduces it with humour, this part of the concert probably includes the songs which are the most personal to him. In fact he is about to perform « Say it First », « Scars », « Midnight Train », « HIM » and « Too Good at Goodbyes », that everyone knows now. During this emotional moment, the interpretations of « Scars » and « HIM » are particularly moving. Sam Smith talks about the first one with a certain reserve. Written while he was in Birmingham for a gig, it is a song about of his parents’ divorce. And even if this is one of the songs he is the most proud of, «Scars » has also made him apprehensive. Indeed, he explains he was worried about people listening to it. Despite that, Sam Smith ended up deciding to put the song on the deluxe version of the album. After all, « Scars » is not about sadness and allows the singer to thank his family on stage.
Then, with « HIM », Sam Smith addresses God and claims that being homosexual is not something bad at all. Tolerance and love are the keys and the powerful voices of the backing vocalists really embellish the lyrics. At the end of the song, the spotlights create a multicoloured aura – emblem of the LGBT community. This moment is followed by the longest standing ovation of the show. For the encore, Sam Smith is wearing a very long coat and sings three last songs. First, there is « Palace », which he performs at the top of a staircase – an element which is hidden until the end of the show. Next, he sings « Stay with Me » and thousands of red confetti are dropped in the arena. Finally, the concert ends with « Pray », which allows the backing vocalists to have an important presence until the very end. A beautiful conclusion for a beautiful tour !

NIALL HORAN A
fter the Flicker Sessions, which allowed Niall Horan to meet his fans as a solo artist for the first time, the 24 year-old Irish singer is now on the road for a new tour and is going to perform all around the world : in Ireland, Spain, Australia... And it is in the beautiful city of Glasgow, in Scotland, that we attended his show, in order to give you a little preview. Indeed, Niall Horan was on the stage of the SEC Armadillo, a venue which has a capacity of 3,000 people, on the 18th and 19th of March – two sold out gigs! For this tour, Julia Michaels, a singer and songwriter that Niall Horan knows really well, is part of the team. Indeed, she is supporting him and sings no less than 7 songs on stage, among which her now unmissable hit « Issues ». Another guest was specially involved in these two nights in Scotland. Niall Horan actually wanted to showcase the talent of Lewis Capaldi – a Scottish artist who is only 21. The Irish singer had announced the news on his Instagram profile : « GLASGOW!!! Your local man @lewiscapaldi is coming to play at my shows on Sunday and Monday […] you simply CANNOT miss this fella. He’s phenomenal. » In this way, when the show starts, it is Lewis Capaldi who gets the ball rolling singing 4 songs, among which his last single « Rush », and it gives the audience a beautiful pianoand-vocals moment. The young man remains really humble on stage and admits he has a fondness for sad songs with humour : « if you don’t like sad songs written by chubby guys, you may not like it ». Having a supporting act without any cheerful song is definitely something daring and original but, according to us, Lewis Capaldi does the job perfectly. No need for a wild rythm to captivate the audience. His moving deep voice is largely enough to conquer the hearts of the fans and fills the room with emotion. Even if you do not know his songs, there is no lack of chills!
Then, it is Julia Michaels’ turn. Just after a very dynamic instrumental intro, she appears on stage smiling and wearing a tee-shirt from Niall Horan’s merch – a detail that clearly does not go unnoticed to the audience ! During her performance, she especially sings « Miss You », which is featuring Clean Bandit, « Issues » and « Heaven », which is part of the original soundtrack of « Fifty Shades Freed ». Besides her own music, Julia Michaels has already written songs for several artists that you know very well. As a result, she also performs « Sorry » by Justin Bieber, « Love Myself » by Hailee Steinfeld as well as « Good for You » and « Bad Liar » by Selena Gomez. Julia Michaels definitely knows how to create huge hits! Finally, the long-awaited moment is here... Niall Horan comes onto the stage and starts with his last single « On the Loose ». What is better than a groovy song to begin the show with? The fans are immediately very responsive and sing along the lyrics of this rhythmic song. Then, the artist performs « The Tide ». In fact, the beginning of the show is very dynamic and it is really pleasing to see Niall Horan play the guitar with so much energy right from the start. On stage, there are also 5 musicians, among whom a violonist – an element that is quite uncommon but very enjoyable. After having greeted the Scottish audience, Niall Horan sings a couple of mellow tunes. First, the public can appreciate a live performance of « This Town », his first single as a solo artist. This beautiful moment is followed by the moving « Paper Houses ». The song highlights the purity of Niall Horan’s voice and creates, despite the 3,000 people in the room, an intimate performance. During the show the young Irish singer covers « Dancing in the Dark » by Bruce Springsteen – an artist that he admires a lot. And this is not the only cover Niall Horan does on
stage since he also surprises his fans by singing « Crying in the Club » by Camila Cabello later on. Throughout the night, it is obvious that Niall Horan’s stage presence is natural and effective. Indeed, although he is a musician, he does not hide behind his guitar but, on the contrary, he uses it to demonstrate his worth. Moreover, he is in harmony with his musicians. So, when he performs « Seeing Blind », a duet with Maren Morris, Niall Horan perfectly manages to make the audience forget the absence of the female artist. Then, once again, Niall Horan sings a couple of mellow songs in a row : his single « Too Much to Ask », « Flicker » and « Fool’s Gold » from One Direction’s fourth album. For the second one, which is very personal to him, he asks the audience not to use their phones at all. As a result, the room suddenly becomes dark and the emotion is palpable. After « So Long », Niall Horan reveals a new version of « Since We’re Alone ». He explains this choice saying that, although the studio version is groovy, he wrote this song while playing the piano. So here is a first time in Niall Horan’s career ; he shares his pianist skills on stage. Indeed, before this tour, he had never played this instrument in front of an audience. Later in the night, Niall Horan sings the very catchy « Mirrors » and leaves the stage for a short while. Then, when he comes back, he directly creates an electric atmosphere with one of One Direction’s most successful singles : « Drag Me Down ». Everybody seems to get an electroshock and sing, as soon as Niall pronounces the first words, with an incredible energy. Just like Harry Styles or Liam Payne, Niall Horan does not forget his first steps in the music industry and still performs One Direction’s hits during his gigs. And this is a decision that really delights the fans who have supported him from the beginning of his career.
Finally, Niall Horan ends the show in an amazing way by singing his sexy single « Slow Hands ». For this performance, he puts down the guitar and moves on the stage following the rythm of the song. Thanks to the light effects, the interpretation is even more dynamic. Last but not least, « On my Own » reminds us about his Irish roots and showcases the 5 musicians, who end the concert on their own on stage while the spotlights bring the initials of the singer out. Niall Horan has actually perfectly managed to create a tour which is both intimate and full or surprises! With original songs but also covers, the artist meets his fans’ expectations and stays true to who he is. He opens up to the audience and reveals his talent for the piano... His talent for impersonating accents is also present. He had a field day reproducing the Scottish one and there is no doubt that he will train all around the world.

HARRY STYLES M
arch 13th. 20 000 people are packed in the AccorHotel Arena, singing, shouting and chanting for one guy. Harry Styles. The singer stopped by Paris on his first worldwide solo tour «Harry Styles Live On Tour» and he knew exactly how to please his French fans. A charming smile, a look to-die-for and an irresistible voice, it didn’t take long to the audience to get wild and sing along with the artist. Boys, girls, young and old, they all agreed on one thing : Harry Styles sure knows how to put on a show. After a short introduction by Mabel, it was time for the singer to shine on his own. Kicking off the show with «Only Angel», Harry Styles sets the tone. Loud, powerful, sweaty and at times, emotional, it doesn’t take long for the crowd to wake up and sing along as loud as they can - and it was actually pretty loud, with the artist. With «Woman», it was definitely time for a steamy and sexy moment, quickly followed by a sweet and calm moment with two others track from his debut album, «Every Since New York» and «Two Ghost». The calm before the storm and the madness. «Bonjour, je m’appelle Harry». A few words said in French, it’s all Harry had to do to win over the few 20,000 people attending the show that night. This, and a cover from the world’s most famous band, One Direction: «Stockholm Syndrome». Whether you were a fan of Harry’s previous project or not, you have to admit that the energy coming from the singer and the crowd, singing along to every single words, was electric. Federative and joyful, Harry also sang the iconic «What Makes You Beautiful» and the emotional and beautiful «If I Could Fly». From one cover to another, Harry paid homage to Ariana Grande by singing «Just A Little Bit Of Your Heart», a song he wrote for her a few years ago. A nice moment for all the fans.
WORDS AND PHOTO by LéNAELLE FONTAINE
Beside the famous tunes from his album or 1D’s work, Harry still had some surprises left for his fans. The singer did not sing one new song, but two! «Medecine» and «Anna» both followed the rock’n’roll infused in the previous tracks. While the beat was loud and somewhat confident, the heavy guitars balanced with the beautiful and sincere lyrics. But where is the studio version, Harry? And then, no more screams, no more stomping, no more applause, just Harry’s voice in a moving silence. Whispered lyrics, soft and discreet voice, the silence made the moment very intimate and the listening more enjoyable. 20,000 people, enjoying the moment and just listening to one man standing alone on a stage. Something that leaves you speechless. One more time before leaving the stage for good, Harry sang a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s «The Chain» and made the crowd go wild with the now infamous «Kiwi», his latest single. The fans were completely losing their mind, letting everything go and enjoying one last time this hell of a moment with the singer until the very last minute. The fans were even eager for more after that amazing performance. Well, what a night it’s been. from rock’n’roll songs, to intimate and personal moments, Harry gave us all the feels in Paris. Come back soon Styles!

WHAT’S UP Lonepsi, a poet in the rap scene
IN FRANCE ?
© Lola Moser
STRIKING SUZANE
Forget about big muscles, heavy beats and verses about money and champagne, in fact just forget about all kinds of rap stereotypes because Lonepsi is the revival of French rap just like fellow rappers Lomepal or Orelsan. Lonepsi, also known as Lindo Gargiulo his real name, could be mistaken for a poet as his inspiration stems from many romantic writers of the 19th century (as in “Le Chien et Le Flacon”). Now in his mid-twenties, he used to write music in his bedroom as a teenager and it’s not until 2016 that his talent was finally revealed. Thanks to the power of social media, he went viral in a matter of months, and admits that without the Internet he would have never been able to promote his music and fulfill his dreams.
We don’t know much about her but her one and only single predicts the brightest future in music... With «L’insatisfait», French singer, song-writer and dancer Suzane finds a stunning balance between sharp words and clubbing beats. Written two years ago, this debut track tells the story of our eternal (and silly?) quest for greener grass on a vivifying electro. Inspired both by Edith Piaf and Daft Punk, Barbara and Vitalic, Suzane is indeed all about contrasts and critics already sees in her the likes of Stromae or Christine and The Queens. A comparison relevant regarding both her music and her attitude. On her music video, she delivers a very peculiar choreography, that she built herself using her background as a classical dancer and her will to break free from the shackles of ballet. The result is feverish and frantic! This daring universe have obviously seduced some interesting musical figures : she was offered a contract on the 3e Bureau label (home of OrelSan, Gringe or General Elektriks) ; Neels Castillon, who directed for Coeur de Pirate, and Nicolas Huchard, choreographer for Madonna, collaborated on her music video and Suzane has already opened for Feder, Slimane or Berywam’s shows. Talk about a debut!

Always introspective and somewhat intimate, his songs are melancholic, skillfully combined with ethereal and ambient productions. He integrates guitar and piano elements just as well which make his songs even more authentic. Lonepsi is at a crossroad of genres and even though he began with rap, his shows also include piano-vocals or guitar-vocals only. Dig into his two first records “Les premiers sons du reste de ma vie” and “Sans dire adieu” and you’ll dive right into Lonepsi’s emotional soul.
Louis Delort, the comeback of a TROUBADOUR Part-Time Friends, when alchemy makes music
© Simoné Euzebio
You might know his name and his voice already. Whether it was in the French edition of «The Voice» six years ago, in the musical «1789, les amants de la Bastille» or with his band «The Sheperds», Louis Delort already has a serious and wonderful career behind him. But apparently, that wasn’t enough for the young singer who decided, in 2016, to leave his label to focus on his very own sound and music. Embarking on a brand new adventure, alone with his guitar, Louis Delort decided to rely on his fans to help him produce his album.
Part-Time Friends, part-time musicians, full-time talented! It all began in the south of France where Florent Biolchini and Pauline Lopez formed Part-Time Friends while they were studying a bit more than ten years ago. Then life got in their way and after one year of not seeing each other, they reunited in Paris where they continued their musical project. Part-Time Friends was performing a lot in Parisian cafés and after several performances they finally caught the attention of a label. They released two EPs and one album called “Finger Crossed” in 2016. Their single “Here We Are” is now a timeless hit, after having been chosen by the French carmaker Citroën to be the sound of its global advertisement.
A year after unveiling «Le Temps Que Tu Reviennes», it is now time for the singer to dig a bit more into his universe and give something new to his fans. With «Le Monde est à rendre», Louis presents what’s about to be an eclectic and modern album. Forget about the rock sound of its predecessor, this new record will definitely be more pop, with a tiny hint of electro. In the hope of seeing the world change, on this single, Louis questions himself about the evolution of our modern society when he sings «Your grandchildren want to see the ocean / But the world is arid / yes the world is torrid». With its addictive chorus and interesting yet almost hypnotic hook, we have to admit that we missed his raspy yet soft voice! His new album, named «La Folie Des Hommes», should be out this year. Produced by the fans thanks to their donations, we can’t wait to see what these 17 tracks hold and what Louis Delort has in store for us after long years of waiting!
The autodidact duo musically reminds us of Angus and Julia Stone and even though Florent and Pauline are not, it is as if they were siblings. Between alchemy and spontaneity, their sensibilities are complementary and their voices in constant harmony.

We are captivated by their flowery and sunny pop-folk. They are ingenious and inventive, for instance when they mix English lyrics with French ones in the same song, or when they create a music video in the middle of Tokyo, inspired by Instagram stories as in “Streets and Stories”. Beware, their songs are so catchy, they’ll stay stuck in your mind for days!

OTM TEAM PAM
founder, editorial director I spend most of my time apologizing to my favorite streaming platform for ripping off their «add to playlist» button. When i’m not looking for new artists to talk to you about I drown myself in a sea containing a mix of old R&B and punk-rock sound. Sometimes I go to concert venues more often than I go to bed and I listen to music even when I sleep. I’ll be probably deaf in 40 years but knowing you’ll discover new artists through this mag makes everything worthwhile.
CORALINE
graphic designer, writer
Wannabe architect, musical writer by passion. I am in love with matter, music and words. Drunk with british indie-rock and popfolk. I guess my wildest dream would be designing and building a gig venue, for which I would decide the opening line-up. In the meantime, I am the curly girl with too much hair, front row.
LéNAELLE
writer Meet the youngest of the crew ! Aspiring music journalist and communication student, I spend most of my free time surrounded by books and hot chocolate. Basically obsessed with british pop music and indie artists, if you’re looking for me you’ll probably find me singing my heart out at a concert. if i could turn back time, i’d definitely pop to the Panic! At The Disco show in Chicago in 2008.
LUDIVINE
writer Who am I, in a nutshell? I am a daydreamer, a traveler at heart, a concert addict and I see beauty in everything. Music is my escape route and my best friend. People say that have an eclectic taste in music which is true although you’ll see me mostly at rock shows. Fun fact: I actually own a guitar since I was 4 and I still don’t know how to play. I am also the girl that’s like «Hey you gotta listen to this!» and 2 hours later we’re still on YouTube... Oops!
COLINE
writer If it were possible, I would probably live in a concert venue! Gigs are, without any hesitation, the events I appreciate the most. Addicted to pop music, tattoos, Youtube, The Greatest Showman original soundtrack, TV shows and Disney movies, I always love to discover new artists and talk about them with my friends. Professionally speaking, my biggest dream would be to have a fashion or musicrelated job. I guess I just need art to be part of my life!
