BEHIND THE BUSINESS

RYM NETWORK OWNER RYM

Exclusive Interview with Vanessa Torres creator of RYM Network.

RYM NETWORK IN THE MAKING,

"I WANTED TO CREATE AN OUTLET WHERE IT DIDN’T MATTER WHAT YOU LOOKED LIKE, OR WHERE YOU COME FROM AS LONG AS YOU HAD THE DRIVE TO JUST OWN IT, AND PUT OUT SOMETHING THAT CAN RELATE TO ANYONE"

So I was born in San Antonio, TX to an immigrant mom from Coahuila, MX. I have been involved in the entertainment/political industries since I was a kid. Both my mom and her then boyfriend, Stanley [who I consider to be my dad] were in it in their own lights, and growing up in that for me was just our normal lives.I remember being a kid going to festivals, and helping my Stanley with set up to then going dancing in the crowds, and another week going to latin civil rights rallies/ marches with my mom. As I got older, both music and politics became very important to me, to where I became involved in both music and civil rights organizations in and out of school.

Music, and dance helped me get through school, and life in general. I love all music my playlist goes from Country, Rock, Hindi Bollywood, Salsa, Regional Mexicano, and everything in between. I love to dance to all of this music so much, and it just makes me so happy. However, there was a long time in my life [dance/music/my culture] where the things that made me the happiest were thrown at me as the worst parts about me. For about 7 years of my life, I was in a relationship with a person who made me feel like I could never be myself. Any time I would ever express anything it was always shut down, and that led to me leaving so much of my passions behind because at the time, I was manipulated into believing that everything that I loved about myself I just shouldn’t.

Those years in my life had to be some of the worst, yet to everyone around me for a long time it never looked that way. I was ashamed of myself, and my dark reality. It has taken a long time for me to even come to terms with everything that I went through in that situation. Mentally, physically, emotionally, psychologically, and even financially I was in an abusive/toxic place that I later realized was sucking my life away. The crazy part was it took years for me to look into my own reality to see that it was wrong, and I needed to leave. When I hear the stories of an abusive relationship and why didn’t you just leave… It’s way harder than it sounds! Especially the longer you stay. The hardest part though was leaving that reality to find who I am once again. That was how I ended up [honestly] running away to California. By far the best decision I could have ever made.

OTM: How did you think of doing a network? Vanessa: If I am being 100 it was not something that I had always envisioned myself doing. I had started up my career as a journalist when I was 20, and the largest issue that always came across me was that “I didn’t have the look for television”, or “I looked great for radio”. That was something that would definitely sting when I heard it, but it never stopped me from wanting to work in television. I couldn’t understand it though at first. I was the type of journalist that I didn’t care if I lived or died that day because in the end all that mattered was the story. Furthermore, I was always passionate about what I did, so when the constant comments about my appearance would come in, It made me feel like passion, intelligence, and determination were never going to be enough for me to make my broadcasting career come true.

Once I realized that, then the idea of creating my own network came into my head, but not as a network at first. It was a YouTube Channel dedicated to learning about the lives of musicians in the Regional Mexican Industry [Reventon Y Mas] It later evolved to an entertainment blog, ReventonYMas.com, then to the network we are now. RYM. I wanted to create an outlet where it didn’t matter what you looked like, or where you come from as long as you had the drive to just own it, and put out something that can relate to anyone. I am a storyteller through and through, and I truly believe everyone has a story that deserves to be heard.

I didn’t care if I lived or died that day because in the end all that mattered was the story.

OTM: How did you come up with the name Reventon y mas? Vanessa: Sitting inside a Chick-fil-A LOL. Honestly yea that’s where it came from I was in a Chick-fil-A with my friend, and great producer, Brian Pineda. While we were having lunch we were on the idea for the YouTube channel, and it was just something that after throwing words out there stuck. OTM: How long has your network been live on air? Vanessa: The network itself has been on Roku since May 2021, so we just hit our first anniversary.

Now we have more coming as Conocer Tu Nacion is getting rebranded, and switching to an English format. Plus we have our deep dive Docuseries Artist Rising premiering this summer. I am most excited to get back to what I love to do which is telling stories as we are introducing a new show to replace a show from last year. The new show is called Needs No Introduction, and it's all about finding those that really need no introduction. Great stories can come from anywhere in the world, and I look forward to finding them alongside my team.

OTM: How did you feel when you saw your network on Roku for the first time? Vanessa: I cried! When we went live, I was just sitting at home with my husband, and it was green lit. Then to see it pop up in the Roku Streaming Service was a core memory moment. I couldn’t believe we had pulled it off. I still can’t believe it sometimes. OTM: So far, what's your favorite show on your network? Vanessa: That’s a hard one! Honestly, I love each show for what they each bring to the table. With the Sporty Sibling Podcast, it's an analytical sports show, but It's also so funny, especially when Trash Panda makes his appearances and plays pranks on Hershey. Then with Estilo Ranchero that one just hits home because Our first show [Reventon Y Mas] was all about Regional Mexicano, so there is a soft spot for sure. Then we have RYM news, and being a newsie myself, I love to see the story telling on that international level, but with the local mentality

OTM: Do you think you will produce movies? Vanessa: Probably not, I love movies, but I am not a filmmaker at all. I have so much respect for that as my husband is a movie producer. I see what he does on a daily basis, and it's insane! Maybe in a couple of years I may think differently, but for now i’m happy in TV.

I don’t think i’ll ever stop pushing for more. OTM: Where do you see RYM in 5-10 years from now? Vanessa: I want RYM to be seen the same way people see Univision, NBC, Willow TV. I want a building bigger than Netflix. Once we get there, I want to keep going. I don’t think I'll ever stop pushing for more. OTM:How do you finance such a big project? Vanessa: While this is my whole life most of the time, compared to others we aren’t so big. In the early stages, and sometimes even now, I fund a lot of this business myself while working other jobs.

While I would love for this to be my 100% focus, still have bills to pay, so working a side hustle really has helped with growing the business. However, we offer services through commercial, digital, social, and still photo advertising. Anyone who is interested in learning more, please check out our website or email me directly at vtorres@reventonymas.com

OTM: What has been your biggest challenge? Vanessa: Money, and finding the right people. We are a startup company so money coming in is not always a give-in everyone here also works in sales as a team, so we can bring in more money. However, it’s also finding people who are as determined as you are knowing that the money isn’t always there [at first], but with enough hard work it will come.

"It's about wanting to leave something behind that made a difference. Making a change in perspective" OTM: What keeps you motivated during hard times? Vanessa: Money lol honestly is a big part of it. I mean, we all want what makes us happy to also pay our bills. Now, if I’m being honest, it's about wanting to leave something behind that made a difference. Making a change in perspective. We hear all the time“ when is it going to be my turn” when do people hear about me?” for me, it’s: “why doesn’t everyone get a turn?” why should it be only about you?” We shouldn’t be focused so much on ourselves, rather the world around us deserves to be seen.

OTM: What advice do you have for someone that has a big dream and doesn't know how to go after it. Vanessa: You’re going to screw up so much, and that is okay! Screwing up is part of the process. Besides, that don’t worry about being the smartest in the room, instead focus on what you can learn to better yourself. If I am the smartest person in the room, then I am in the wrong room.

BEHIND THE BUSINESS RYM NETWORK OTM: What's the best advice that you have ever gotten? Vanessa: Don’t be scared to fail, and quit focusing on everyone else. If you’re so busy talking about what everyone else is doing, you’ll never achieve what you want to achieve. OTM: Anything else you would like to share? Vanessa: I am forever grateful to my team for sticking by me, on a largely considered crazy adventure, and I wouldn’t know what I would do without them.

NEXT UP MEET THE TEAM.

THE DREAM TEAM Since Day 1s - These are the people who have been with me since the beginning back in 2019/2020.

Host /Lead Producer of The Sporty Sibling Podcast

Hersaim "Hershey" Ramirez Hershey now that is a friend I can say for sure will be for life! We were band geeks together back in High School in San Antonio, TX (my hometown). Always someone I know I can count on. Interestingly enough, we stopped talking for years and reconnected after I was in the early stages of RYM as a network, and wanted to create a show out of his Podcast, the Sporty Sibling Podcast he does alongside his little sister Eunice. He runs our sports division, and I couldn’t Imagine Anyone better.

Host Sporty Sibling Podcast

Eunice Sanchez Little Eunice! Even though these days she is killing it in college in Texas, she will always be a little sister to me. Probably one of the hardest working people I have ever met in my life, and I’ve known her since her Elementary Days! She handles her own so well on the Sporty Sibling Podcast, by far one of the most intelligent sports analysts I have ever seen!

Host/Producer of Estilo Ranchero

Griselda Solorzano

My goodness GRIS!! Wow, now that is an interesting story of how we became friends. In the early days when Reventon Y Mas was the only show I did, and I was just on YouTube, I met Gris covering a concert with El Yaki, & Cuarto De Milla. Interestingly enough, we both fell under a tough situation, but it ended with us becoming great friends. Now she runs Estilo Ranchero coverage for RYM for Central/North California, and she is amazing! Prior to working with me, she had never done this kind of work, and now she is a rock star!

THE NEWBIES - ONE THING THAT WAS VERY IMPORTANT FOR ME IN 2022 WAS TO EXPAND THE TEAM. I WANTED TO FIND LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE WHO WERE READY TO TURN THIS INSANE IDEA INTO REALITY.

Lead Reporter - RYM News

Mary Avila -Shears When it comes to hard news, no one does it better here at RYM than Mary. With over 10 years in the news game, she is a force to be reckoned with! Every time I speak with her, I feel like I am always learning something new!

General Producer

Cyron "Clem" Cleamons Clem! He has not been with me long, but when I am looking for someone to dive in the trenches with me, I look no further than Clem! Whether it's building new sets, or doing last minute edits, he is always there to back me up. I’m glad to have him part of the team!

Host on Estilo Ranchero/ General Reporter RYM News

Karla Avila Talk about a surprise! When Karla joined the team, she had left a completely different profession, as she worked in the medical field. However, in no time at all she grew to become one of the top people on our team! She has a strong passion for music, and hopes to become a professional artist in the future. Her knowledge supersedes so many others, and it leaves me in awe all the time! I couldn’t imagine anyone better to take point at RYM.

BEHIND THE BUSINESS

ADDITIONALLY, WE ARE CONSTANTLY LOOKING TO GROW OUR TEAM, AND HAVE NEW/RETURNING TALENT POP IN ALL THE TIME!

Devin Clements Producer-Artist Rising/ConocerbTu Nation

A Documentarian in the Making! Devin is someone who has passion, and is eager to learn. A student now, he is focusing on really learning the In/Outs of all things' production, so he can fulfill his dreams. For now he is killing it on development for the new shows to RYM Artist Rising, and a Conocer Tu Nacion.

SUMMER 2022

THE HOOD FOODIE

"I WASN’T LOOKING FOR THEHOODFOODIE, HE FOUND ME" OTM: For those that don't know who Thehoodfoodie is, what would you tell them about yourself? Please introduce yourself here. TFH: Hello! It is an honor to meet you, my name is Alexander Orozco, cuando como, no conosco, also known on social media as Thehoodfoodie. I am going to keep it real with you guys, I wasn’t looking for Thehoodfoodie, he found me.

Once I had finally gotten tired of being the person that I had become before of the age of 36, my life didn’t have any direction, I was a lost soul, alcohol played a huge roll in my house hold, it actually took out my dad around the age of 53, so I needed to break the cycle. I then decided to stop drinking alcohol from one day to the next, because I knew that I wouldn’t have lasted if I kept drinking.

I then sought help for my mental health, because since I could remember. I have felt that there has always been something off about me, but I just couldn’t pinpoint it, until a psychiatrist diagnosed me with bipolar depression, he then prescribed me medication, only to experince all the side effects that the box stated could happen, depression, suicidal, ended up being admitted on a 5152 psychiatric hold at Mission Community Hospital.

OYE TODO MUSIC SUMMER 2022 |EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Where they just kept feeding me more meds, the reason for the side effects reactions, but as soon as I was realized from the hospital, I stopped taking medication, only to fall into a depression until the medication wore off. At the time social media was hitting hard,Instagram was the trend, everyone around me was posting about food, fashion, lifestyle, etc… and I believe that unconsciously I was trying to find an outlet after experiencing my rock bottom. So I them started to take pictures of some of the local mom & pops shops that I visit, places like Lenchitas in Pacoima, Carrillos in San Fernando, quickly to get kicked out to L.A., the mecca of the foodie world, meaning mom & pop shops would reach out to us for support and the rest is history. Once in L.A., I started to certify restaurants, creating dishes with the people that I was helping support, McDonald’s reached out to me at 3K followings, letting me know that they believed in me and would like to offer me an internship, with potential partnership, the biggest food brand in the world, podcast interviews where I am so appreciative for the the people that have given me a voice on their platforms, been in a Gordon Ramsey show, hangout with Aaron Sanchez.

"I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT YOU MADE IT" Bumped into Andrew Zimmerman when I worked at Netflix, only to find out that surprisingly he knew who I was. But what is crazy to me, is that I don’t even know how I fell into the foodie world, because growing up I was such a picky eater and I don’t know how to cook but I will tell you what I do have, that nobody can take away from me. And that is the love, respect and even the protection of the people, something that is so hard to earn and now when people ask me what is my mission statement. I tell them that it is simple, it’s all over my social media “Showing love to the world, keeping it 100, God’s Plan”, becuase it is the least that I can do, after Diosito gave me a second chance of life.

OTM: What's your favorite dish in the world? THF: Anydish that is served to me with love are definitely some of my top dishes, but if I had to choose dishes that take me to a special place, I have to say un caldito de res at a perfect 100% hot summer day, como me jefita me acostumbro. OTM: Is your last day on this earth what are you eating? THF: A Mexican buffet feast, con todo, menudo, tacos, carnita asada, salsita picosita, lo que caiga.

TheHoodFoodie OTM: Have you thought about having your own restaurant? THF: Funny you asked me that, I didn’t even think about it, until someone had asked me that same question a few weeks ago, because imagine, “Thehoodfoodie Restaurant”, how amazing would that be, going from a person that didn’t believe in himself about 7 years ago, to accomplishing the unimaginable. OTM: Let's talk about collaborations, what has been the collaboration you're most proud of so far? THF: By far, it has to be when McDonald’s , they believed in me and now I have been sponsored by McDonald’s for the past 3 years, they have also helped me give back to the community in many ways, for example, we were able hook up 100 healthcare workers at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in the city of Tarzana. In my HOOD of the 818, with breakfast during the pandemic, the same healthcare workers that saved my life when covid almost took me out my oxygen levels were at around 63, irregular heart beat, blood clots, infections, to the point that even the doctor told me, “Damn carnalito, I can’t believe that you made it” and it is so funny, because when I was released from the hospital, I told the nurse when she wheeled me out, ‘Don’t forget the name Thehoodfoodie carnalita” and she replied, “Who”? And I responded, “Thehoodfoodie, because I will be back to repay you guy’s for saving my life and tell them that Thehoodfoodie sent you’! Isn’t it crazy how things work out, I am not even trying Fam.

OYE TODO MUSIC SUMMER 2022 |EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

OTM: Do you think there's a secret formula to being an influencer, that everyone knows but no one wants to share? THF: I do have to say that I feel my story is unique, meaning, I wasn’t looking for Thehoodfoodie, Thehoodfoodie found me right after experiencing my rock bottom, I am not trying to be anybody but myself, I can only speak for myself, but my advice to people, is to always be yourself, never try to please everybody but yourself, wear you heart on your sleeve and everything else will work itself out. OTM: Is there any brand or person that you would like to collaborate with in the future?

A

FA

MI

L

THF: Yes! My lady Carolina Orozco aka Mrs. HOOD Foodie, I am extremely excited to see if we can collaborate in the near future, bringing you guy’s a potential cooking series with Thehoodfoodie’s , if you think I have charisma, wait until you get to know her.

LIA

OTM: Now, we have all collectively been through a very hard time since the whole pandemic started. Let’s talk about mental health. Until recently I didn't know you could be so broken and depressed but still be able to function. Have you ever felt this way? THF:For as long as I can remember, I knew something was off about me, but I could never pinpoint what it was, until I decided to start working on myself, part of that, was going to a psychiatrist, who then diagnosed me with bipolar depression, so something tells me that i’v e always had it, it was just never caught.

|EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

18

OTM: What has been one of your biggest mental struggles of late? THF: In 2020 I tried medication for the second time after beign suicidal and got admitted to Mission Community Hospital on a 5152 psychiatrict hold and depressed the first time I tried medication for my bipolar depression, thinkig that maybe the first time they had prescribed me the wrong medication, nope, the secong time I tried it, I fell into a 7 month, 24/7 depression, if you have ever experince depression, then you know what I am talking about. I ain’t going to lie to you, in a way, I am glad that I went through that, because in 2020 after experiencing it and the medication wore off, I jumped on my social media platforms and expressed to my Familia what I had just gone thru with my mental health struggles and it seemed that a whole lot of people were being affected with their mental health due to the situation with covid lock down, to now, being an advocate for mental health awareness. OTM: What's your best advice for someone that is going through any mental challenges at the moment? THF: I wish that I had a blueprint for this question, but I don’t, I can only tell you what I think has helped me the most and that is, that regardless of how difficult the situation seems to get, you have to stay as positive as possible, fight thru the negativity trying to break you down and I promise you that you will come out on the other side stronger than ever.

CONTINUATION

I ain’t going to lie to you, in a way, I am glad that I went through that, because in 2020 after experiencing it and the medication wore off, I jumped on my social media platforms and expressed to my Familia what I had just gone thru with my mental health struggles and it seemed that a whole lot of people were being affected with their mental health due to the situation with covid lock down, to now, being an advocate for mental health awareness. OTM: What's your best coping mechanism? THF: I medicate myself when I stop to visit all these small mom & pop shops that reach out to me to show them some love, but it works both ways, because when I visit them, the love that I receive from every single business I visit, feels like unconditional and now I don’t use medication for my bipolar depression, the love from the Familia has replaced it.

OTM: How important is La Familia for you? THF: My Familia means the world to me, we found each other about 7 years ago, at a time when I didn’t believe in myself, jumped on social media after hitting my rock bottom, they believed in my realness, rawness and being relatable since day one and look at us now, 2022 I am preaching that we are planning a world tour to show love to the world, just putting my part for them believing in me, because if you know me, that’s how I operate. OTM: Where does the name Thehoodfoodie come from? THF: I ain’t going to lie to you, I honestly don’t remember where the name came from, my lady claims that she created it, I’ll give her the credit, what is crazy to me, is that everything has come so organic, from the name, logo, etc…, to be labeled with Thehoodfoodie name, supporting mom & pop shops, it goes hand in hand, don’t you think? OTM: Estás en una carne asada, what are your top 3 songs you're playing?

THF: Amor Eterno (Rocío Dúrcal), to remember my jefita Sarah Bertha Orozco (Cachanilla), Camino de Guanajuato (Jose Alfredo Jimenez) to remember my jefito Jose Luis Orozco (Panza Verde) y Jefe de Jefes (Los Tigres del Norte), because it hits hard, the lyrics speak to me, everybody wants your position, until they figure out what it takes not only to reach your position, but also what to maintain it. OTM: Tell us more about your signature jackets, do you brainstorm or how is the process of getting one custom? THF: I met Tony Jones a couple of years ago at the barbershop that I was currently going to, he would bring in custom jackets that people would order from him, one day my barber told me Tony’s story, about him coming to L.A. to pursue his dreams from Texas, only to find himself homeless for a few months, but he didn’t let that stop him, he now has a storefront in the HOOD of L.A., music artist, actor and so much more.

The day that I found out about OTM: Tell us more about your his story, I decided to support signature jackets, do you him, normally when I believe in brainstorm or how is the process of getting one custom? an artist, what I tell every single THF: I met Tony Jones a couple one of them, is “You are the of years ago at the barbershop master of your own craft, I that I was currently going to, he believe in you, do you”, I never tell Tony how to customize my would bring in custom jackets jackets, it’s all him and as you that people would order from him, one day my barber told me can see, all of the jackets that Tony’s story, about him coming he has made for me, all have been turning heads all over the to L.A. to pursue his dreams from Texas, only to find himself place to his one-of-a-king art homeless for a few months, but pieces. he didn’t let that stop him, he Make sure you follow now has a storefront in the HOOD of L.A., music artist, actor The Hood Foodie on his social media platforms. and so much more. @TheHoodFoodie
