THE CARS & SCENERY In November 2014, On the Road Experiences organised a twelve-day journey for Porsche Club Hong Kong. Our

22 guests drove their own cars on an itinerary that ran from China’s Yunnan Province to Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, crossing two international borders en route.

On the Road Experiences arranged for the 11 guests’ cars to be transported overland from Hong Kong to Yunnan. After the journey, the cars were transported to Bangkok and shipped back to Hong Kong. In addition to handling all the car shipping and border crossing logistics, On the Road Experiences also arranged for a film crew and photographer to accompany the trip – the latter took the beautiful photos that follow…

MEMORABLE MOMENTS When designing

an itinerary, On the Road Experiences’ staff seek out special experiences that are unique to each destination.

On this journey, guests visited a Tibetan family home and joined a private prayer session in ShangriLa’s Songtsam Monastery. In Tacheng, guests watched endangered monkeys at play in their ancient woodland home. And in the Golden

Triangle, everyone joined a sumptuous private dinner amongst the paddy fields, with some special guests – the hotel’s herd of rescued elephants…

FOOD & DRINK To our minds, enjoying good local food is an essential part of a journey. On this itinerary, this might mean joining a boisterous Tibetan-style hotpot dinner, or slurping up a delicious bowl of khao soi noodles in Chiang Mai – meals that capture the essence of each place. In Yunnan, local cuisines vary hugely, from the Tibetan-inflected flavours – cumin, roasted lamb and barley – around Shangri-La, to sour-and-spicy Dai dishes in Xishuangbanna. In Laos, our guests dined on lahp and sticky rice, while in Thailand they enjoyed the best of the region’s Issan cuisine…
