Pulled from the earth or maybe the spice drawer? The trend towards a muted shade of red is popping up everywhere from footwear to tiles. The tint brings out all the best qualities found in the colour red with a blend of masculine and feminine assets to appeal to the masses. In the world of home décor, the shade pairs perfectly with light wood tones and creamy accents for a soothing palette influenced by nature. Add bits of sage green for even more depth.

Designer Tanya Collins popped the tone throughout this year’s Minto CHEO Lottery Dream Home. The powder room features a white marble vessel sink carved by John Schweighardt. The floor and wall tiles are from Euro Tile & Stone. The door is painted in Dulux Apple Brown Betty.

Design as a whole is getting in touch with the natural world to find inspiration on the style front. Paint colours are pulled from the woods and the desert to create breathable spaces that are easy to live within. Nature’s hues are always on trend but moving into 2022 I’m predicting an even greater leaning towards the earth tones.

Sage green is the browner version of the bright pops we have seen spring to life in the past few years. It's less playful but much easier to live with than emerald or even deep forest green. The calming influence of sage makes this an ideal choice for bedrooms and living areas. It also carries versatile qualities that allow it to blend easily into a variety of colour palettes so that it can be both somber and playful. Add a bit of spice by bringing in an earthy red.
