This film noir inspired dance theatre narrative is a collaboration of young and gifted artists. It is a production carved and crystalized in the truly unique process of making art. The story though, was created by only one, and she generously chose to gift the tale to her fellow artists.
Emily Baggarly, a senior Musical Theatre major with a dance minor, met with me over a year ago to discuss an idea for a dance workshop piece. As she told me the story, I found the details vivid and intriguing. Her interest in film and the camera lens, and in psychological components of action, including Carl Jung’s Study of the Shadow, made for a suspenseful and elevated composition. I thought that her story needed to be told on the Fritsche stage for the entire community to see, not simply in the classroom for her peers. And, I also thought that the creation of this dance theatre piece would be a wonderful opportunity for the students in the Advanced Choreography class to develop.
Here we are, a year later, and Emily’s very detailed script and character development, are now a reality. This is the first mainstage dance concert created by a class of student choreographers, and they have all added the colors and intonation of exciting storytelling. This is the collaboration of so many gifted and passionate artists across the spectrum of making art. This is Emily’s creative spark resounding with a multitude of creative voices.
This is Find Me in the Shadows.

Claire’s past Otterbein credits include The Heidi Chronicles (female swing) and A Little Night Music (Fredrika). She would like to thank each one of the choreographers, Stella Kane, and Emily Baggarly for the passion and creativity they have poured into this piece. She would also like to thank her family for always supporting her, her friends for always brightening her day, and Jack for post-rehearsal pumpkin pie. Enjoy the show!
Tiffany Stone (Draper & Wardrobe Lead) is a senior BFA Design & Technology major from Dallas, TX. She is a Texan at heart and carries it with her to every state she finds herself in. Her goals for the future are to create costumes in the shop and work wardrobe backstage. She is looking forward to an internship in costume production next semester and graduation in May!
Paige Vick (Lighting Programmer) is a sophomore BFA Design & Technology major from Ellicott City, MD. She is excited to be getting more experience on a lighting board through this show and is excited to see everyone’s hard work come together.
Gabe Whitnack (A1) is a junior BFA Design & Technology major with a Film Studies minor from Durham, NC. Gabe would like to thank his wonderful family and friends for their support, specifically Luca, Cassie and Sage for being amazing roommates/friends, and Ben and Lily for indulging in some stress-relieving movie nights!
Otterbein University Department of Theatre & Dance honors those who have given so generously during the 2022-23 Academic Year. Members who give annually at the Director and Producer level are included in the Joanne Van Sant Society.
