Leith self-built project

This is a project that aims to create a low-rise residential area in the city for local artists to promote the post-industrial art movement in Leith. The concept is to create an urban village enclosed by a series of shop houses, creating a strong faรงade frontage and an inner courtyard for the residents. These shop houses will be built universally the same, with two cores (one for kitchen and toilet, the other for circulation). The rest of the area will be opened for artist to decide their functions. It is expected from time to time the village will be altered to suit the personality of the artists and further present their identities by decorating the facade. Rather than the architect who is designing the entire building and enforce people to live in these spaces, the architect is creating a basic system for the users to further design their own house.

Berwick Game Hub

Berwick Game Hub is designed according to the local planning of Berwick council for the regeneration. Berwick is imagined to house numbers of digital industries, such as Google, Amazon, etc.. The concept of the Game Hub is to connect the past of Berwick with the online game industry. Berwick is famed for its role as a trading spot of Scotland and England. This time, the Game Hub will become a place for trading games and items in games physically. Most of the spaces are designed to emphasis physical connection and experiences between players rather than communication on websites. In order to blend into the Victorian surroundings, bricks and sandstones are mainly used on the facade.

Scarborough Beach Hut

Scarborough is a coastal town in North East sngland, it is famed for the tourism and Fish and Chips culture. The project focuses on re-introducing the seaside holidays on the beach to the locals. These huts are constructed with timber in dome shapes. The community is responsible in making and cladding potato plastic onto the structure in the summer. The bio-claddings is degradable, so in the winter it will be decomposed by the weather and become nutrients to the nature. The temporary feature of the hut creates a more interesting typography to the town and directly reflecting the seasonal economy of coastal towns.

The Chippy

The Chippy is multi-functional space that includes farming, trading, catering and scientific innovation. In order to create the ‘Sitopia’ and cure the fragmented society of Scarborough. The project aims on rethinking the food chain of Fish and Chips. By establishing a connection between potato, fish and chips and Bioplastic, a basic programme list started to inform. Rather than just bringing back local farms and fishing trading industry, the production of bioplastic adds a new side to the catering industry. These Bioplastic will then be cladded onto the grid structure to form an experimental facade. Similar to previous project, the facade will decompose in time and need to be replaced by new panels again.

ECO-FACT

ECO-FACT is an urban system that provide an alternative to manufacture and purchase goods. In the capitalised world, goods are valued by the cost and profit by a company. However, we have little known the true cost to Earth in order to produce. In this system, ECO-FACT will charge their costumers by the environmental cost and request the costumers to pay by a credit that will be earned by taking part in environmental events. The factory will be located in rural area, while satellite stores for collection will be located in cities and towns. These stores will also house workshops for public to earn their credits.

The Stalkers Movie

Stalker was filmed by Andrei Tarkovsky in 1979, echoing the tension of cold war between USSR and USA. This movie was dedicated to film made in 1979 and reconstructed parts of the scenes, called the Antiroom. An installation is built and were filmed afterwards. In order to produce the sensation of raining, the central of the installation was designed with a filtering system allowing the water slowly funnel through and create a raining scene.
