What goes better with a tasty Polynesian potion than an Enid Collins bejeweled box bag and sassy sense of humor? Why, a quick dip into mid-century “purse anthropology” with Collinsiana guru, Karen Adler, that’s what! Join Karen for a dive into what makes Collins designs––particularly the gem-encrusted handbag with its tongue-in-cheek wit––a little camp, a lot kitsch and, most of all, an important but overlooked segment of art by mid-century American women. In addition to insights from her decade-long Finding Enid with LOVE study of Enid Collins artworks, Karen will share some of the rarest, glitziest, kitschiest physical specimens from her collection of more than 600 originals. She’ll also offer appraisal advice and tips, such as how to tell a real Enid Collins from a copycat.

Explore the Spanish connection to classic cocktails through the traditional and low ABV elixirs of the Tiki canon that highlight key Iberian ingredients like vermouth, sherry, cava, and Galician Gin Nordes--the most widely used premium gin in Spain that is made with Albarino and indigenous Galician ingredients. This seminar will discuss key cocktail origins using Spanish ingredients, demonstrate building the cocktails and how the flavors play off one another, and give attendees the opportunity to taste the results armed with a broader knowledge of how they are composed.
