March 13, 2017 Dear Friends, It is wonderful to be back here at our 67th Annual Ouimet Banquet which should be, again, the largest of its kind in the country. What a way to kick off the golf season! This evening, we will be honoring a distinguished professional who has earned the respect of all people touched by the game of golf and is widely known for his graciousness. Nick Price, Member of the Golf Hall of Fame, currently plays on the PGA Champions Tour where he has won four times, and has also recently been elected to captain the 2017 Presidents Cup Team at Liberty National this September. It will be his third straight time as International Captain. Over the years, his playing career highlights have included winning 3 Majors and 18 PGA TOUR victories. However, what is even more impressive is the extensive recognition Nick has received for his generosity. A winner of the USGA’s Bob Jones Award for Distinguished Sportsmanship, the Payne Stewart Award, and the Byron Nelson Award, he is deeply devoted to charity and truly represents the Francis Ouimet Award for Lifelong Contributions to Golf. He is truly an international golfing goodwill ambassador. A special feature of the evening will be reflections of Arnold Palmer by our long-time Banquet presenting sponsor Dick Connolly. Mr. Connolly was Arnold’s financial advisor and Mr. Palmer will forever be remembered as our first Ouimet Honoree and great Ouimet Fund friend who also graced us in receiving the Connolly Distinguished Service Award in 2013. We owe great thanks to Mr. Connolly and all of our other sponsors for their wonderful support. I think you will all enjoy having Dave Marr III of Golf Channel as our Master of Ceremonies once again this year, and hearing from our student speaker, Jennifer Barry of Woodland Golf Club and Quinnipiac University, is sure to be a highlight of the evening. Most of all, tonight, we proudly gather to remember why we are here. Francis Ouimet’s legacy lives on through The Fund that proudly carries his name, and has helped over 5,600 young people achieve a college education. As you will hear this evening, we will announce that it is our plan to award a record-$2 Million (a
2
$150,000 increase) in Scholarships in the 2017 – 2018 academic year. This special milestone is a culmination of our Centennial Campaign begun in 2013. It will bring us to nearly $34 Million in need-based awards since 1949. With the growth of applicants over the past few years, fundraising events like tonight, and all of our programs, continue to be important to our mission. Our awards continue to be made possible because you, and thousands of others like you, support us through programs at your clubs, and beyond. You have recognized the importance of giving back to the game that we all enjoy and to the young people who contribute so much to that enjoyment. Our deepest thanks, along with the thousands of Scholars and Alumni who have benefited from these awards, goes to all of you. Thank you for your support and enjoy the evening! Sincerely,
Gregory J. Gailius President Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund

Nick Price Francis Ouimet was considered a great international golfing goodwill ambassador and tonight’s Honoree certainly follows his legacy and that of prior Ouimet Honorees Greg Norman, Gary Player and Annika Sorenstam. Nick Price is regarded as “one of the nicest people in golf.” He was also thought of as the best player in the world for several years and now is preparing for his third assignment as Captain of the International Team for the Presidents Cup at Liberty National in late September. Mr. Price was born in Durban, South Africa and later emigrated with his family to Rhodesia, now known as Zimbabwe. He became a fine athlete and promising junior golfer, winning the world junior tournament in San Diego at age 17 on his first trip to the U.S. in 1974. His golfing skills then took a temporary hold as he served in the Rhodesian Air Force as a fighter pilot in the Bush Wars. Nick started on the Southern Africa Tour in 1977, moved on to the European Tour where he won the Swiss Open in 1980, and then battled Tom Watson at the 1982 British Open before finishing second just a stroke behind. The next year he came to the United States and the PGA TOUR, and broke through quickly with a four shot win over Jack Nicklaus at the World Series of Golf. He also continued to play on the European Tour and Sunshine Tours in those years, winning the prestigious Lancome Trophy in 1985 and the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit in 1982. It was in the early 90s that Mr. Price truly exploded into prominence. Many thought he was one of the best ball-strikers in golf, and he had the ability to drive long and very straight. From 1991-1994 he won 14 times. He broke through with a major title at the PGA Championship in 1992 at Bellerive and then
6
won consecutive majors in 1994 at the British Open at Turnberry and again in the PGA Championship at Southern Hills. He also took the Players in 1993. He was the leading money winner on the PGA TOUR in 1993 and 1994, and was ranked number one in the world for 43 weeks. He won the Vardon Trophy for low scoring average in 1993 and 1997. Altogether, he had 18 victories on the PGA TOUR, and was in the top 50 money winners 17 times. While this was a great period for him, it was also marked with deep sadness as his longtime caddie Jeff “Squeaky” Medlen died of leukemia in 1997. Nick Price has been one of the most honored players in the game. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2003, and awarded the USGA’s Bob Jones Award for Sportsmanship in 2005. He has also been the recipient of the Byron Nelson, Payne Stewart and Old Tom Morris Awards. Mr. Price has won four times on the Champions Tour and today is deeply involved with a golf course design business. He purposely keeps to just a couple of projects yearly, so he can concentrate extensively on each. His projects have been in the United States, Mexico, Zimbabwe and other sites around the world. While his individual play has been superb, he is also greatly remembered for team competitions including eight times representing Zimbabwe in the Alfred Dunhill Cup. He played on the International team in the Presidents Cup five times, and has been nonplaying Captain in 2013 and 2015 and will do so again this year. He makes his home in the Jupiter, Florida area with his wife, Sue, and children Greg, Robyn and Kimberly. He recently played in the PNC Father-Son Challenge with Greg. Nick and Sue are involved in several charities that benefit children, especially children who have lost one or both parents, such as Take Stock in Children. He also actively supports the Palm Beach County Golf Association and its charities. The Fund is honored to award Mr. Price with the 20th Francis Ouimet Award for Lifelong Contributions to Golf at this year’s Annual Banquet.

TONIGHT’S MASTER OF CEREMONIES D AV I D M A R R I I I Mr. Marr joined Golf Channel in 2000, and currently serves as a tower announcer, interviewer and play-by-play host for the network’s PGA TOUR Champions tournament coverage. Marr also hosts PGA TOUR Champions Learning Center, a weekly, 30-minute show dedicated to game improvement and featuring a variety of PGA TOUR Champions players. Prior to joining Golf Channel, Marr served as a commentator for WHDH-TV (NBC, Boston) during the 1999 Ryder Cup Matches. A New York City native, Marr is a graduate of Bucknell University and is the son of 1965 PGA Champion, 1981 Ryder Cup Captain and long-time ABC-TV golf commentator Dave Marr.
OUIMET STUDENT SPEAKER JENNIFER BARRY A resident of Waltham, Massachusetts, Jennifer Barry performed her golf service by working in the pro shop at Woodland Golf Club for over five years. A four-year Ouimet Scholar and winner of six Ouimet endowed awards, Jenn will graduate from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut with a degree in nursing this May. Jenn aspires to work in a hospital as a neonatal or labor and delivery nurse. Last year, she had a job as a Certified Nurse Assistant in the L&D Unit of Boston Medical Hospital. She also attended a service trip to Indonesia and was able to view an orphanage and a birthing center there. She is excited to serve as this year’s Student speaker, the first such student speaker to be going into the field of medicine post-graduation.

Dick Connolly Reflects on His Friend, Arnold Palmer For the past 16 years, a highlight of this Banquet has been the presentation of the Richard F. Connolly, Jr. Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes someone who has made great contributions to The Fund as Mr. Connolly has. Mr. Connolly, a proud Ouimet Scholarship Alumnus, former President and Trustee has proudly served the Ouimet Fund for over 40 years. Mr. Connolly is the embodiment of everything a Ouimet volunteer and Alumnus can be. For the past 38 years, he has been the Chairman of the Francis Ouimet Memorial Tournament. He has also underwritten the production of the Richard F. Connolly, Sr. Trophy, the Ouimet Memorial’s permanent trophy that is one of the most unique in golf. Mr. Connolly has been the driving force in starting the Francis Ouimet Lifelong Contributions to Golf Award Annual Banquets thanks to his close relationship with Arnold Palmer, and he has personally sponsored this dinner every year. Mr. Connolly has also helped The Fund in many other ways. Tonight, we have a departure from our normal format in memory of Mr. Palmer, who died last September 25. Mr. Connolly served for over 30 years as Mr. Palmer’s financial advisor and will reflect on Arnold, his contributions to golf, their friendship, and Mr. Palmer’s contributions to the Ouimet Fund. Those contributions were recognized when he was presented the Connolly Award at our Centennial Gala in 2013. The “new era” of Ouimet Fund Banquets began in 1997 when Arnold accepted Mr. Connolly’s invitation to become the Banquet’s guest speaker and first recipient of the Francis Ouimet Award for Lifelong Contributions to Golf. Mr. Palmer’s appearance helped bring the dinner and the Ouimet Fund to a new level as 1,400 guests were on hand. Over the next few years, the Ouimet Banquet secured its position as the largest golf dinner in the U.S., and Mr. Palmer frequently helped recruit honorees of the evenings.
10
In 2000, Mr. Palmer succeeded Gene Sarazen, who died in 1999, as Honorary Chair of the Francis Ouimet Memorial Tournament. In 2011, Mr. Palmer agreed to be Honorary Chair of the Ouimet’s Centennial Celebration. He then graciously also agreed to be presented with the 2013 Connolly Award at The Fund’s Centennial Gala. There were 2,100 guests on hand – the largest ever for a golf banquet in the United States. He was joined on stage by Golf Channel’s Rich Lerner, the Master of Ceremonies, Peter Jacobsen and Mark Frost, the author of The Greatest Game Ever Played, and the late Bill Paxton, the director of the movie of the same name. Finally, the Ouimet Fund is extremely grateful that Mr. Palmer had been a friend to Dick Connolly and our mission. We were proud to present the Connolly Award to Arnold Palmer, who as much as any other player ever, embodied so much of what Francis Ouimet was to American golf. Most of all, we are proud to remember him tonight. Please join us in saying, “Thanks, Arnold.”

About the Ouimet Fund The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund was founded in 1949 by a group of friends of Francis Ouimet and the Massachusetts Golf Association. Since the day that he insisted that Eddie Lowery carry his bag in the 1913 U.S. Open, Mr. Ouimet was known for his interest in helping young people. The Ouimet Fund has continued that legacy proudly for 68 years. Since 1949, nearly $32 Million in need-based college tuition assistance has been awarded to young people who have given at least two years of service to golf as caddies or in pro shop or course superintendent operations in Massachusetts.

Endowed Scholarship Program We are proud to report that the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund’s endowed scholarship program has now grown to 133 permanent awards. The “endowed scholarship creators” see these special awards as a wonderful way to permanently associate one’s self, an organization, or a loved one, with golf, education, and young people. The Ouimet Endowed Scholarships include 22 with preference for inner-city Scholars and 11 with preference for females. In addition to a flexible agreement program, the creators of endowed scholarships receive full tax deductibility, have the name of their award listed on a “gold leaf ” board at Golf House on the grounds of TPC Boston, attend a special donor/recipient reception and are given a report on the special individual who receives the award each year along with the financial performance of their permanent endowment. There is also a special Endowed Brochure prepared each year that describes the honoree of each endowed award and includes the special parameters of the specific award, along with a photo of the honoree and annual award recipient. We also welcome and encourage all endowed creators to attend our annual Endowed Reception: Investing in Lifetimes, a way to meet the recipient/student of a Ouimet endowed award.
