The annual Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral has become an integral part of celebrating

Mercy Day at Mercedes College. Mercy Day celebrates the College’s heritage, cultural spirit and fosters relationships and participation among the students. In September, the Cathedral was filled to capacity as it welcomed students, staff, teachers and representatives of the Sisters of Mercy from the College community. Those gathered enjoyed a reflective service which paid tribute to the founding Sisters and the enduring legacy which they have created. Students dressed in their respective House colours, added a vibrant aesthetic to the celebration.

In her Address to students, teachers and friends, Principal Mrs Kerrie Fraser, spoke of the significance of the Day and the opportunity for the community to come together. Mrs Fraser said it was also a Day where students could demonstrate the Mercy values while fostering a strong sense of community spirit. After the Mass, Mercy Day festivities continued in the College grounds with a range of fun activities and stalls for students in which to participate. The Day also provided an opportunity to farewell Year 12 students on their last day of school before they left to commence ATAR exams.
