Her Story

Mother Creasie Mae Peters King, daughter of the late Roscoe Peters and the late Iother D. Mondy Peters, was born on Saturday, May 11, 1935, in Varnado, Louisiana. She was called from labor to reward on Thursday, August 20, 2015. In l947, at 12 years old, her family moved from Varnado, Louisiana to New Orleans; where she lived for 68 years. Her educational foundation originated from the Washington Parish Public School System, followed by the Orleans Parish Public School System. She graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School in the Spring of 1954. She continued her educational experience at Xavier University in New Orleans and Southern University at New Orleans. Creasie worked for 30 years in the Orleans Parish School System as a Para Educator. She was also a Home Interior Displayer for 35 years, receiving many awards for her sales quotas. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, she volunteered with many groups and organizations to offer her help to the children of New Orleans. She was a member of Phoenix Chapter No. 172, Order of Eastern Stars.

She was baptized at an early age in Varnado, Louisiana, at the Mount Zion Baptist Church. Upon moving to New Orleans, Creasie joined St. Matthew Baptist Church on South Rampart Street. As an adult, Sister King joined the Fairview Baptist Church; where she served in the Choir, Sunday School Department, as a Youth Counselor, and later as a Trustee Board Member. In l994, she became a member of New Mount Bethel Baptist Church in Kenner, Louisiana; under the Pastorship of her son, Rev. Reynaldo King, I. She served on the Deaconess Board and the Pastor’s Aid Committee. In May of l998, Mother King became a charter member of Paradise Baptist Church; where she served faithfully in all areas of ministry. She was proud to be represented as “Mother of the Church”. Mother King truly enjoyed traveling with her Pastor, in-town, out-of-town, back-of-town, across-town; no matter the occasion, as he preached God’s Spoken Word. Mother King demonstrated a beautiful Christian life. She believed whole-heartedly in the power of prayer, with unwavering faith, and trusted God for all things. Always devoted, putting her children first, she was the center of her family, constantly giving and nurturing. Throughout the lives of her five children, her words were always supportive, encouraging and correcting; inspiring her sons to always strive for excellence. As their parents, Creasie and the late Willie King, Jr. wanted to instill in them a strong Christian foundation that would endure the test of time. Moreover, she continued that same practice with all seven of her grandchildren. She leaves to cherish her memories, four sons, Kevin W., C. Hunter, Tyrone N. and Rev. Reynaldo King, I; three daughters-in-law, Thomasena J., Alexis J. and Lasandre J. King; seven grandchildren, Kevin, II, Katelyn, Craig, II, Christopher, Majella, Reynaldo King II, and Rachel Elizabeth King; a devoted friend, Cheryl J. Mudd. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and devoted friend, Willie King, Jr., oldest son, Reginald B. King; sisters Dosia Peters Stewart and Juanita Peters Duvernay; and her parents. Mother Creasie P. King will be remembered as a great Lady, a caring and concerned Christian who loved God, her family, and everyone she came in contact with. Well loved by her family and many friends, she was a good neighbor and went out of her way to help those who were in need. She gave from her heart, never expecting anything in return; very independent and touched many lives with her pure spirit. Her wisdom and love has impacted our lives immeasurably. Her memory will forever live in the hearts and minds of those who love her.

Serenity God grant me the serenity To accept the things I cannot change; Courage to change the things I can; And wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking as He did, this sinful world as it is, Not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right If I surrender to His will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life And supremely happy with Him Forever in the next, Amen. -- Reinhold Niebuhr
