James’ Favorite Scripture: For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Mark 8:36
A TIME TO LIVE James Stewart, Sr. was born on April 24, 1931 to the late Johnny Stewart and Ibby Butler in Adams County, Mississippi. He united in Holy Matrimony to the late Lula Givens and to this union five children were born. Brother Stewart worked for many years laying tile and retired as a longshoreman after 26 years. He had many hobbies to include maintaining his home, cutting his lawn, transporting family and friends and helping others. He lived the words of his favorite scripture found in Mark 8:36, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and remained a faithful servant to the Lord. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Elaine Stewart and two grandsons, Shawn Rice and Cody Brown.
A TIME TO BE MOURNED Brother Stewart leaves to cherish his fond memories, three daughters, Diane Rice of Madison, WI, Deborah Leach (Charles) and Joy Page, of New Orleans, LA; two sons, James Stewart, Jr. and John Givens (Deenah) of Madison, WI; two sisters, Adeline Sweeney, of Oakland, CA and Louella Marvell of Natchez, MS; four brothers, Howard, of Illinois, George, of San Diego, CA, Earnest (Lillie) and Robert, of New Orleans, LA; thirteen grandchildren, DeJuana, James, III, Kelly (Corey), Ryan (Sony), Nikki, Ben, Stephen, Jr., Keoka, Javana, Jasmine (Jessie), Chaz, Jenna and Hannah; 23 greatgrandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He also leaves to mourn, a very special friend, Sarah Broadway.
The Broken Chain We didn’t know that morning Dad, that God would call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home. You left us precious memories, your love is still our guide. And though we cannot see you, You’re always by our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same. But as God calls us one by one the chain will link again. We Love You! Diane, Deborah, Joy, James & John
A Grandfather As Special as You Throughout the years you’ve always been As wonderful as can be When we were small you took the time To bounce us on your knee As we grew older, you were there We only had to call We knew that we could count on you You’d never let us fall So many times in our life You’ve helped to get us through We’re so glad God gave us A Grandfather as special as you!
The family wishes to thank everyone for your thoughtfulness and support during the loss of our loved one. We thank you for your phone calls, visits and kind words, but most of all we thank you for your prayers because they have truly been a source strength and comfort during this time. May God forever bless each and every one of you and keep you in His care. ~ The Family ~
