Obituary The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalms 27:1 Valenia Ivery entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Ochsner Baptist Hospital, New Orleans. She was 72 years old.
Valenia Dawson Ivery was born on February 20, 1944 in Magnolia, MS. to the union of the late Roy Dawson and Essie Mae (Adron) Dillon. She accepted Christ at a early age and attended Pleasant Springs Missionary Baptist Church (formerly Tan Creek Baptist Church). She graduated from Pike County Agricultural High School in Magnolia, MS before relocating to New Orleans where she resided until death. She was married to the late Eddie James Ivery. Ms. Val was employed at Broussard's Restaurant for over 30 years. She was also employed at Holiday Inn Express and Embers Steak House where she finished her career. Early in life God assigned Ms. Val the enormous task of being a Mother. With His guidance, she exemplified the definition of what a Mother should be, and became a Mother to everyone she encountered - that alone speaks volumes. Ms. Val had a passion for cooking, which she mastered, becoming a well known Chef to people from around the world. She was most famous for her Bouillabaisse and Stuffed Bell Peppers. She was also assigned numerous other tasks, which she mastered. She was a loving wife, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, god-mother and friend. It really takes a person with a caring heart, a humbled spirit and lots of determination to fulfill so many purposes. And, SHE DID IT! She did it leaving no stones unturned. When you find someone like her you better hold on tight because you have found something good. God made us all uniquely different so we know that after He made Ms. Val He broke the mold. She may not be here physically, but spiritually, her legacy lives on. Valenia was the mother of 4 lovely daughters; Hawitha Dawson, Shanta IveryWatkins and the late Lisa Dawson and Kawanee Ivery-Herrington; 1 nephew, whom she reared as a son, the late Allen Ivery, Jr.; 2 sons-in-law, Cornell Herrington and Tyrone Watkins; 6 precious grandchildren, Cornisha Herrington, Allen Carter, Aliyah, Trinity, Tye and the late Tynia Watkins; 4 brothers, George and Roy Dawson Jr., Jesse and Jerry Dillon; 2 sisters, Maxine Marshall and Debbie Sue Howard; 6 sisters-in-law, Evelyn Dillon, Helen Riley, Margery, Audrey, Faradine and the late Queen Ivery; 6 brothers-in-law, Wallace Marshall, Laverna Howard, Willie, Jr., Richard, Allen, Sr. and the late Jerry Ivery and 1 devoted nephew, Julius (Tammy) Ivery. She is also preceded in death by her grandmother, Daisy W. Bowen "God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.“

Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. ~Psalms 23:1-6 KJV~
"Ms. Val's Bell Peppers“ 8 medium-size green bell peppers 1-1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil 1 large onion, chopped 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley leaves 3 garlic cloves, minced 1-1/2 pounds ground beef 1 pound peeled & veined shrimp, chopped 1 (8-ounce) can crabmeat (not drained) Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning 5 cups Italian Bread Crumbs Cut the bell peppers in half, clean and parboil for 10 minutes. Drain well. Meanwhile, heat oil in large skillet over high heat. Cook onions, parsley and garlic, stirring, until onions are browned, about 5 minutes. Transfer the vegetables to a bowl. In same skillet, cook beef over medium heat until it is no longer pink, about 6 minutes, breaking it into small bits. Add shrimp, crabmeat and reserved onion mixture, folding all together. Continue cooking for 10 minutes more. Season to taste with Tony's and remove from heat. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Chop 4 of the parboiled bell pepper halves and mix into the meat mixture. Transfer mixture to a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle bread crumbs, including the heels, with water (they shouldn't be soaking wet), and add bread to the bowl. Mix until the bread disappears. (stuffing should be very generously seasoned), adding more Tony's if desired. Stuff mixture into remaining bell pepper halves and arrange them on a baking sheet. Sprinkle with bread crumbs. Bake uncovered until the bread crumbs are nice and toasty, 20 to 30 minutes. Serve immediately, or let cool, cover well and freeze for later.

With Gratitude & Love Perhaps you sent a lovely card, or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you sent a floral piece, if so we saw you there. Perhaps you spoke kind words, as any friend would say. Perhaps you were not there at all just thoughts of us this day. Whatever you did to console our hearts we thank you so much for your part. Sincerely, The Ivery Family
