When the majority of Davie residents have an emergency, they contact the Davie Police Department or Davie Fire Rescue. At the Town of Davie Police and Fire Expo on February 8, they will have the opportunity to meet and learn more about some of the personnel who serve them.
“The Fire and Police Expo gives the community a chance to interact with the Davie Police and Fire Rescue personnel, and an opportunity to see what goes on behind the scenes at the Police and Fire Departments,” said Leona Henry, Town of Davie Public Relations Coordinator. “Davie residents and the community will have an opportunity to participate in various activities and enjoy the displays and demonstrations. We hope everyone enjoys themselves and has a good time.”
Visitors will be able to see a helicopter, Dive Team, Vehicle Extrication Drill, K-9, SWAT, Police Motorcycle Unit, and Rappelling demonstrations from the Davie Fire and Police Department. Fire engines, rescue trucks, SWAT trucks, community response vehicles, the smoke trailer, the Crime Scene Unit, and other activities are available for them to explore. Sparky the Fire Dog and McGruff the Crime Dog are available for visits. Children will also be able to try on some of the equipment. Information on the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), child fingerprinting, drowning prevention, Davie Crime Watch, and other topics will be available at tables and booths set up by local and state authorities.
George Kovacs plans to attend for the fifth time with his three young children. “My kids love visiting with the police officers and fire personnel,” said Kovacs. “They also love all of the demonstrations and trying on the gear. We are all excited for this year’s event.”
