Let the Good Times Rolle: The Life and Legacy of Esther Rolle at 100

In celebration of Women’s History month and honoring the talents of Emmy Award-winning actor and Pompano Beach native Esther Rolle, AARLCC will host a Drive-In Outdoor Play Let the Good Times Rolle. Born November 8, 1920, Rolle excelled on stage and screen and is bestknown for her role as matriarch Florida Evans on the 1970s sitcom Good Times. This event is a socially distanced drive-in event. Part of the festivities will include food trucks for your refreshment needs. The event is first-come, first-serve. Show starts at 7 pm at 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. Native Plant Distribution
Hollywood and Hallandale Beach are hosting a native plant giveaway on March 6th! Maximum 2 plants per household. Bring your photo ID to verify residency. This is a drive-through, no-contact event. Plants will be placed in your car trunk or backseat. Plant descriptions can be found at the Institute for Regional Conservation’s Natives for Your Neighborhood tool. This plant giveaway is part of the Ocean Day program series. Pick up is 10:00 am - 1:00pm at Hallandale Beach Cultural Community Center, 410 SE 3rd St. Must register by 3/4/21 at www.floridareef.org/oceanday.

International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific.
Beyond the Shimmering Waters: Everglades & Immokalee
History Fort Lauderdale, proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors, will celebrate Women’s History Month and World Water Month with this visual narrative by artist Lisette Morales. The exhibit will open with a livestream virtual reception at 4:00 pm and be on display through May 28 at the New River Inn, 231 SW 3nd Ave, Fort Lauderdale and available digitally.

Sankofa, a word in the Twi language, is usually connected with going back and getting your history. “The Colors” are a variation of people. We have different shades of skin and culture and, regardless of race, participants will be able to connect with themselves and their history through the art of Acting.
