ScentsAbility has a powerful and straightforward slogan: “Buy a candle. Save a life.” This succinctly captures their mission and impact. By providing job training, employment, and supported housing for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/ DD), ScentsAbility helps these individuals realize their full potential while pro - ducing beautifully crafted, handmade artisan candles.

The organization was founded in 2009 by Bonnie Schmidt and Denise Anderson, and their groundbreaking work with young adults with I/DD was recognized by the United States Congress through a proclamation. ScentsAbility offers a unique opportunity to support a meaningful cause while enjoying the delightful experience of wonderful-smelling candles. With each purchase, customers contribute to the empowerment and livelihood of these talented artisans, making a tangible difference in their lives.

The annual event at the Sportsplex in Coral Springs is a celebration of the diverse cultures that make up the community. People from all around enjoyed ethnic foods, live entertainment, arts and crafts and fun activities for children of all ages.

The non-stop entertainment took the stage at 11:00am and didn’t stop till 6:00pm. A special treat was Kid’s World, sponsored by Baptist Health South Florida and Family Central, which offered activities and arts & crafts for the kids.

The free event is held annually each April at the Sportsplex. Food and rides cost a few dollars but are well worth the fun!
