The Rotary Club of Weston makes the dream of attending college a reality for a group of graduating high school seniors each year. These students, who don’t have the financial resources to pay for college themselves, are awarded scholarships. In fact, a majority of the scholarship recipients are the first members of their families to attend college at all.

With the events surrounding the COVID19 pandemic, it is more important than ever to raise funds for the graduating class of 2021.

To raise funds for these much-needed scholarships, the Rotary Club is hosting a virtual reverse raffle drawdown on Thursday, March 18th. The reverse raffle drawdown is a raffle where it is better to come in last! There are 400 tickets numbered between 1 through 400. Each number has a respective ping pong ball in a drum. The balls will be randomly pulled during the event. As numbers are pulled, they are eliminated.

The last five people can decide if they want to share the pot or go for broke. If they go for broke the only ping pong ball left will identify the winner of the $10,000 Grand Prize. The raffle will be held prior to the 34th Annual Rotary Golf Classic, which will be held on Friday, April 9th. Freedland Harwin Valori Ryan, PL (FHV), a consumer justice law firm, serves as the longtime title sponsor for the golf tournament. Rotarian Michael Freedland, Esq., founding partner of Freedland Harwin Valori Ryan, PL, is leading as a Title Sponsor, Committee member, and securing sponsorship contributions.

Both Tournament proceeds and the reverse raffle drawdown support the Rotary Club of Weston’s Scholarship Fund. Thanks to the sponsors’ support, the club has awarded over $2,000,000 in scholarships for deserving seniors at Cypress Bay High School, Western High School, Sagemont School, and Handy.

The Rotary is asking our members and their families, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and others to please consider making a donation, purchasing a banner, or buying a ticket to the virtual reverse raffle drawdown event. A $100 donation provides a raffle ticket, potentially leading to net winnings of $10,000!

The criteria for this unique scholarship include: • Outstanding scholastic grades and aptitude • Leadership • Serving worthwhile causes • Going beyond challenging circumstances

The selected students represent themselves authentically and confidently, which is truly inspiring. A prerequisite to being considered for the scholarship is awareness of what Rotary International represents. One hundred percent of net drawdown event/tournament proceeds go towards The Rotary Club of Weston’s Scholarship Fund. The 2021 drawdown raffle is operated exclusively by the Rotary Club of Weston.
