Our Hospitals Charity is the fundraising arm of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We support NHS patients and staff across Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland and Hambleton & Richmondshire. We help improve the health and wellbeing of over one million people across the region. Whether it’s state of the art equipment, pioneering research, increasing staff training or improving staff health and wellbeing, we’re committed to helping our hospitals go further. If you would like to leave a legacy in your Will to Our Hospitals Charity the process is straightforward and our charitable status (Charity No. 1056061) could reduce the overall amount of inheritance tax you’re liable to pay. Legacies have enabled us to make a difference to the experience of our patients, visitors and staff.

For example, they have helped us to create bereavement rooms, update our children’s emergency department and improve our renal unit. Generous donations have also allowed us to purchase state of the art medical equipment and support our staff’s health and wellbeing in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Why we need
YOUR SUPPORT Donations given to Our Hospitals Charity are used to enhance patient care over and above the core services and facilities which are funded by the government. Public donations are used for a wide-range of purposes but the role of the charity is not to replace NHS
funding but to help provide those little extras over and above what the NHS can provide. We have big ambitions to make a difference to the experience of patients who need to be cared for in the trust’s hospitals and community services. With your help we want to: • Keep our hospitals at the forefront of care provision; delivering the best possible care to the region’s population by purchasing state-ofthe-art equipment • Enhance our staff’s training to keep our teams up-to-date on medical advances • Create the best environments for patients and staff We can only do this with the help of patients, carers, staff and local communities who organise fundraising events and give donations and legacies.

TYPES OF
GIFTS
You may wish your gift to be used where the need is greatest, in which case, please consider leaving an ‘unrestricted gift’. This gives the most flexibility for it to be used where it is most needed and makes the biggest difference to the healthcare we provide. Alternatively, please stipulate which particular area of the hospital, or our activities you wish to support.
CHOOSING THE TYPE OF GIFT YOU WANT TO LEAVE There are three common types of gift you can leave to your loved ones and the causes you care about. Whichever you choose and whatever its size, your gift will help to provide the best possible healthcare for future generations. • A CASH GIFT (also known as a pecuniary gift): This is a gift of a specific sum of money. • A PERCENTAGE OF YOUR ESTATE (also known as a residuary legacy): This is a gift of a percentage of all of your estate after the payment of tax, expenses and the distribution of any other bequests. • AN ITEM: This is a gift of any specific non-monetary items such as works of art or other valuables.
