ENHANCED ROOMS AND ENVIRONMENTS We have created a number of wobble rooms at the Friarage, where staff can collect their thoughts and take time out as they serve on the frontline during the pandemic. We asked for your help to make them as comfortable as possible and you rose to the challenge; helping to stock everything from tea and coffee to uplifting posters and colouring books.
Staying with the revamped setting theme, we’ve also updated our relatives rooms to make them more comfortable and welcoming. At the same time, we’ve refreshed the pathology area with new flooring and upgraded garden areas — including our children’s unit — so staff and patients can enjoy the outdoors and take a break in fresh air and natural surroundings.
The wobble rooms are used and appreciated by staff at all levels, and together with psychological support, refreshments and welfare packs, are helping to safeguard the wellbeing of our colleagues both now and in the future.
HELPING WITH THOSE LITTLE EXTRAS Over the past year we’ve been able to deliver a whole host of projects at the Friarage, all thanks to our generous donors and fundraisers. Here’s just some of the ways your money is making a massive difference, right here in our region.
SHOWING OUR GRATITUDE We recently teamed up with renowned local artist Mackenzie Thorpe, to present a bespoke pin badge to every member of staff across our hospitals and healthcare settings. Mackenzie kindly gave his time free of charge to create the special piece of art – his way of saying thank you for everything local healthcare teams have done during the Covid pandemic.
We issued the People’s Medal on behalf of everyone at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, our patients and the local community to offer a heartfelt thank you to NHS staff for all their amazing efforts during the pandemic. Prime Minister, Boris Johnson also showed his appreciation to hospital staff by wearing one of the pins.
Thanks to our dedicated team of volunteers, we’ve been able to provide knitting hearts, baby clothes and blankets. We’ve also supported our palliative care team with care packs for people on end of life care. These may seem like small touches but for people in need, they truly make a difference.

REMAINING AT THE FOREFRONT OF HEALTHCARE Another big part of our recent activity has been keeping our services at the forefront of care. Whether that’s funding training for our clinicians or purchasing equipment such as breast pumps, bladder scanners
and other vital medical equipment, they all contribute to improving the health and wellbeing of over one million people in our region.
