ABOUT OUR HOSPITALS CHARITY

HOW WE’VE HELPED REUNITING PATIENTS WITH PETS

TRANSFORMING THE KIDNEY UNIT

When you have to spend a long time in a hospital bed it can be hard not seeing your friends, especially the four-legged kind, but thanks to charitable donations we were able to open up a pet shed at The James Cook University Hospital.

With the help of our amazing supporters, we’ve been able to fund the transformation of the kidney unit at James Cook.

Located in the holistic centre garden, the purpose built facility provides an opportunity for families to bring in small animals such as dogs, cats and rabbits so that patients can be reunited with their much-loved pets. The pet shed helps patients who are missing their pets to spend some precious time with them. Pets are such an important part of our lives and can really affect our sense of wellbeing.

We are the fundraising arm of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, improving the health and wellbeing of over one million people across the region. The role of the charity is not to fund patient care, but to enhance it and help with those extras over and above what the NHS routinely provides. With the support of local communities, our fundraising impacts your nearest and dearest — patients, staff, family, friends, neighbours and colleagues — those who truly matter most.

Whether it’s state of the art equipment, pioneering research or increased staff training, we’re committed to raising the levels of NHS services and keeping hospitals at the forefront of healthcare in Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland and Hambleton & Richmondshire and beyond.

NEW EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT FOR YOUNG PEOPLE Our rainbow appeal has raised funds for The James Cook University Hospital’s new emergency department for children and young people. The new facility provides emergency care to more than 25,000 patients a year, covering all age ranges from neonates up to 18 years. Through public donations we were able to purchase equipment such as refrigerated cots, sensory equipment and therapeutic toys. We were also able to kit out a breast feeding room, invest in ventilators and resus trolleys, and make the department a much more welcoming and less scary place for children.

With the hospital’s renal team providing more than 3000 outpatient appointments every year, the new unit will ensure outstanding care is delivered in a first class facility. The revamp will see a complete redesign of the renal day unit area to increase clinical space and bring the trust’s specialist renal nurses together in one place.
