JANUARY 23, 2025 // SPRINGFIELD, SOUTH DAKOTA // 1:00PM
2024 was another great year for the cattle industry, especially the cow-calf sector. The optimism is high, all-time record calf prices, commercial bred heifers selling for up to $3,600 and change in leadership. All pointing to a promising future in the cattle industry.
Every year our bulls and breds should be better, if we’re doing our job by being progressive and diligent in selecting traits for calving ease, disposition, functionability, and economic impact. These bulls and breds are without a doubt our best to date!
Our family has had a roller coaster of a year. The end of June saw a nice 3-4” rain; however, 8-14” came down the creek from the North. Lots of damage to fences, crops and irrigation power sources. Little rain for August, September, and Octoboer but amazing good crop yields.
• July 18: Grandchild #7 – Isabel “Izzy” Rose Hofer was born.
• August 6: My dad, John M. Nagel passed away.
• October 18: Grandchildren #8 and #9 were born. Shayna had identical twin girls Landrie Layne and Kamdon Mae.
• October 22: Hip replacement for me.
• November 18: Hired Lucas Dreyer
So in 2025, no matter your highs or lows, go to God for strength and guidance. It’s His grace that brings us to joy and comfort in the blessings around us each and every day.
Thank you for your interest in our program and seedstock. We invite you to come early on sale day or stop in anytime to view our operation and cattle. Come see what the Maine-Anjou influence can do for your herd!
Regards,
Blane Nagel

THANK YOU
Eugene Soukup of Hoegemeyer Seeds for lunch assistance, as well as to Elite Feeds for lunch, cattle rations and herd nutrition.
Videos of all sale animals will post on www.nagelcattle.com and DVAuction by mid-January. Feel free to visit us and check them out any time at the ranch as well! Early viewing is a great time to visit in detail to match potential herd sires to your herd goals, along with viewing heifer mates, dams and like genetic feeder calves.
Tyndall Veterinary Clinic, Tyndall, SD and Northwest Vet Clinic, Parkston, SD serve as our herd veterinarians. All yearling bulls will be semen tested mid-to-late March. We encourage you to leave your NCC bull purchases with us to continue their care and then we will help with bull delivery arrangments and/or deliver oursevles locally. This allows us to keep the bulls on the same nutritional standards, semen test and then deliver in early April. We love to hear about your operation and hopefully procure some future feeder calves and/or replacement heifers.
We represent these bulls to be sound and their records to be accurate to the best of our ability. All are guaranteed for structural soundness and bulls will be fertility tested in March. If an unfortunate problem arises, please notify us promptly. We can provide a satisfactory replacement (if available) or a credit will be issued for next year’s sale for the bull’s full purchase price less any salvage value received. We highly recommend purchasing short term insurance in the event of bull death or injury.
Nagel Cattle Company is retaining 1/3 semen revenue sharing on all bull lots.

• “Rushmore” sold for $22,000 to Beauprez Land and Cattle – Byer, Co. in our ’21 Sale.
• Mark was lukewarm about Rushmore’s front end having a little extra leather. He said now he’s the best fronted bull in the battery. Loose hided cattle are just that, cattle that can grow and get better with age.
• Rushmore full E.T. brother “Foundation” sold in the ’21 Sale for $10,000 to Mike Rigby, Utah.
