On the Cover: United in Excellence: How Two Teams Combined for the Ultimate Staffing Experience By Kristen Eleveld A few years ago, two successful staffing agencies were working to provide excellent employees to meet the needs of their community. While they were technically competitors, the owners of these two companies, Brian McBride and Bobby Robinett, often relied on each other for ideas and resources, and even collaborated on projects. As time went on, they quickly realized they were stronger together than on their own. They decided to combine forces and work as a team – creating one of the most dynamic duos of the staffing agency industry. “We’re like a big family,” Bobby said of their workplace atmosphere. “We support each other and we work hard to put a personal touch into everything we do.” It’s easy to feel like family when your team members stay with you for a long time – and that is exactly the case at United Staffing Service. They have multiple team members who have served with the group for at least a decade, and a few more who are celebrating twenty years at United Staffing Service. Both Brian and Bobby credit much of their success to their excellent team. “We have a great staff,” said Brian. “We wouldn’t be where we are without them.” With a terrific team on board and their shared leadership experience, Brian and Bobby have worked together over the last three years to make United Staffing Service the best staffing agency in Gwinnett. Their secret to success, aside from a wonderful crew to work with, is their goal of treating each client and employee in a personal, family-centered way, and a commitment to consistently superb service. “Our clients appreciate consistency,” said Brian. “No matter what types of circumstances arise, they know that our team is committed to getting the job done successfully.” The clients of United Staffing Service have also come to know and expect that United Staffing Service does not do anything halfway. With prior experiences in corporate staffing agencies, Brian noticed that many corporate staffing companies were more concerned with sending out a certain number of resumes than taking the time to find a good fit for each position. At United Staffing, both Brian and Bobby believe in the value of sending only the resumes they think meet their clients’ needs. Their recruiters pride themselves in making a good match between client and employee. At the end of the day, it’s all about providing people with new opportunities to embark on a new

career that may literally change their life. “The biggest reward is to hear from someone we helped who is now in a successful career,” Brian said. “I’ve heard from people years later who were given a chance by our company, and it changed their entire career track.” He added, “It’s about quality, not quantity. We want every match to be a good one that works for everyone involved.” If you are looking for a staffing company whose commitment to excellence and dedication to serving all types of industry never wavers, then you found it in United Staffing Service. With three local offices and another one on the way, you won’t have to go far to learn exactly how they can help you thrive. More information at www.unitedstaffingservice.com or call 770-338-0700.

From the Publisher: One Man’s Opinion By Ryan T. Sauers

@RyanSauers

@RyanTSauers

I hope everyone is off to a great September. I do many things each week and meet many people locally and across the country. One of the common themes I encounter centers around the “seeming” lack of time people feel they have. We say, “Where did the time go?” Or, that we have been “buried, covered up, slammed, swamped,” etc. It may seem our world moves faster each day. However, is this true? Apple, Amazon, and Google did not make the clock go faster. We do indeed have more information at our disposal than ever before. But one fact remains: we have 24 hours each day of time. No more and no less. Time is not our enemy. In contrast, what we do with our time (if not used correctly) is the enemy. Why wait to do something you dream to do (job, trip, book, hobby) for “one day.” Why NOT now? There are people I know who live their lives in a chaotic state and claim that everything is a disaster. They say “one day…,” and one day becomes decades. It is simply the worldview some have come to accept. Please do not go down this road. I encourage you to look at life’s challenges and reframe them. The “mental model” you choose to use in making sense of your life/situation/world around you makes all the difference. If you want something bad enough you will find a way, and if you don’t, you will find an excuse. So, anyone reading this in print or online, I challenge you to quit making excuses, focus on what matters, and make each minute matter. I am thankful for the Our Town Gwinnett community. Our goal is to provide you with some downtime where you can recharge your batteries and read about positive happenings in the community. I wish you a wonderful September. I thank you for your valuable time and attention when reading this column each month. And, as always, thank you for continuing with us on the journey of my town, your town, Our Town!

Straight Talk: Mouthguards – Just Do It!

One on One: Exceptional Kids Athletics

By Janice J. Wilmot, DMD, MS, PC

By Traci Sanders

As parents, we all want our children to have beautiful, healthy smiles. Unfortunately, those smiles are put at risk during many sports and physical activities that could involve collisions. A staggering 13,000 teeth are knocked out every day in youth sporting activities. These injuries aren’t just painful; they also result in significant costs in both money and time. For football, lacrosse, and hockey, mouthguards and helmets are now required, which has led to a reduced risk of injury. To date the highest incidence rates for facial and dental injuries are reported for bicycling and baseball, with 100,000 and 60,000 annual facial injuries, respectively. Other sports like soccer and basketball also involve a high number of face and head injuries. These can be particularly dangerous because of how easily they can lead to concussions. Protective gear like helmets and mouthguards can help absorb the energy of collisions, which is why studies are currently being done on how mouthguards can reduce the risk of concussions. What’s the best type of mouthguard? The one that is worn, not just in a game, but during practice when there can be less supervision. Mouthguards can be customized to provide the best fit and can be made by your dentist or orthodontist. These are the most comfortable and have the least effect on speech. Another option is a boil and bite device which will cost a little less and can be found in sporting goods stores and online. There are also mouthguards designed for those wearing braces. There are typically two sizes, youth and adult, and they can be periodically reshaped as necessary. Finally, there are one-size-fits-all stock mouthguards that are cheaper but aren’t modifiable. If a tooth is lost, the lifetime cost of the needed dental care is expensive compared to the cost of a mouthguard. Injuries can happen at any age or skill level, and 67% of parents report that their child does not wear a mouthguard. Twenty-seven percent of parents surveyed by the American Association of Orthodontists said their child had sustained an injury during an organized sport that resulted in a trip to the emergency room. Parents and coaches can make a difference by promoting mouthguard use during practice and games as part of the protective equipment beginning at a young age. While we can’t bubble wrap our kids, we can take steps to ensure their safety. Mouthguards make good sense for the health of their smiles! More information at https://www.jjwilmot-ortho.com/

If you’re a parent of a special needs child in Gwinnett or surrounding areas and you’re looking for something to keep your child active and social, you’ll be excited to discover the Exceptional Kids Athletics, Inc. (EKA) camp. The program was founded by thirty-year Occupational Therapist Aimee Prainito in June of 2012 when a therapy client mentioned that there were no existing sports programs for her special needs son that didn’t require parental participation. Aimee called up her friend Jonn Warde, a former professional soccer player, and together they created Exceptional Kids Athletics, Inc. to address this need in the community. Sadly, the woman who inspired this program passed away from cancer before seeing it come to fruition, so Aimee and Jonn dedicated their first year of operation to her memory. In this program, kids ages four to twenty-two with physical or cognitive disabilities can enjoy a variety of sports activities such as flag football, cheerleading, soccer, and basketball, and adaptive swimming through the Angelfish program. The fees differ for each activity, and there is a one-time charge for membership that includes uniforms and registration. Every two years, participants are also eligible to apply for the Griffin Hinson scholarship, in memory of a former member who passed away, to assist with costs. EKA is staffed by volunteers, including Aimee and Jonn. Therefore, the camp is always looking for more helping hands with big hearts. Adults and children between the ages of ten and eighteen can volunteer and even receive community service credits if applicable to their situation. The younger children serve as buddies for the camp kids. All volunteers are CPR and First Aid certified. Aime stated, “Jonn and I want people to think of this camp as one that’s as typical as a regular rec league. Parents of non-special needs kids can sit on the sidelines and simply watch their children enjoy a sport. We want the parents of these special needs children to be able to do the same, Continued on page 12

A talented young star is on the rise in Gwinnett County. Possessing a powerful singing voice that belies her twelve years, Angelina Lemons says as a young child growing up in foster care, she would just dance around and sing. After she was adopted at six years old, her older sister recognized her musical inclinations and encouraged their mom to put Angelina in piano lessons. The piano teacher’s mother was a vocal teacher, and Angelina subsequently began voice lessons, focusing on classical music and Broadway. She says she grew up in theatre – performing dance theatre, acting, and even directing. Angelina lived these formative years in Florida, but in 2018 the family came to Grayson. Angelina says at that point her music “dropped a little bit” because she wasn’t feeling the “Broadway vibe” anymore; it was not what she wanted to do. A few months after the move, she and her mom went to Grayson’s Christmas in July. While there they met Stacy Garguilo, who was hosting a booth because she and her husband Sean were getting ready to open the School of Rock in Snellville. Angelina’s mom encouraged her to sign up, but Angelina says she was stubborn at first and didn’t think it would “be for her” because she had not listened to rock music before. At her first lesson, though, she says she immediately fell in love with the vocal teacher, Lacy Mandigo. “Everyone here just kinda introduced me to the music,” she explains. “If it wasn’t for the school I wouldn’t be here. That’s pretty much how I got into this.” “This” encompasses school participation in house band and performance group; mentoring younger singers in a class called Rock 101; teaching vocals to two of these students; taking guitar lessons; and performing in an independent band. She explains teaching is one of her favorite things to do because she remembers what she struggled with when she was learning and can share special voice techniques to help the kids improve. She spends three days a week at the school and admits between attending middle school, doing “lots and lots of homework,” and spending countless hours at School of Rock, she doesn’t have much free time, but she is okay with that. She even manages to find some time for songwriting, though says she is not yet ready to share her songs publicly. The performance group had its first concert at the Atmosphere Restaurant in Loganville. The band has fifteen players who rotate throughout the show, with everyone participating in the final number. Songs include both southern and hard rock hits like Barracuda, Fly by Night, She Talks to Angels, and Sweet Home Alabama. Rock 101 is their opening act. Angelina says the younger kids’ show is a little different and usually includes pop songs, which they enjoy and that are more suitable for their age group. The independent band came about when a musician in the performance group, Connor Lawley, asked Angelina to do a Facebook Live performance with him. Angelina says after that, they just clicked and decided to create their own “little band.” They share the same birthday, March 22nd, so they named the band, appropriately enough, 322 Southbound. Connor also mentors the younger kids and Angelina says that he is her inspiration for playing guitar. “He’s an excellent guitar player; he’s just great!” They play country and southern rock (“He just has that twang to him’” she explains) and have developed a large following from their video postings on Facebook and Instagram, receiving many requests to perform. While all “this” may seem like a young girl’s dream, Angelina admits to having other ambitions. “Growing up I have always wanted to work either in the medical field or for the FBI or police, something like that,” she says. “I never have wanted to grow up to be this famous rock star.” She quickly adds, “But I will definitely continue music!” Angelina points out that her private and public personalities are quite different. She does not bring up her music at school, where she is laid Continued on page 12

Making Waves in the Fight Against Childhood Cancer By Traci Sanders Swim Across America (SAA)-Atlanta returns to Lake Lanier on Saturday, September 28, 2019 to support cancer research at the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. In the past seven years, SAA-Atlanta has become a top contributor in fundraising and attendance for the much larger SAA organization, which funds life-saving cancer research from coast to coast. To date, SAA-Atlanta has donated $1.75 million to the Aflac Cancer Center. SAA was founded in 1987 and holds dozens of community-oriented open-water swim events across the United States. Each event features fundraising for a local beneficiary that supports cancer research, prevention, and treatment and is created around their desire to make a meaningful impact in the fight. The Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is a national leader among childhood cancer, hematology, and blood and marrow transplant programs, serving children and young adults. It is recognized as one of the top childhood cancer centers in the country by U.S. News & World Report, and cares for more than 7,600 patients at three hospital campuses. This program is ranked in the top 2 percent in the country for COG therapeutic clinical trial enrollment and offers patients access to more than 400 clinical trials, including thirteen innovative Aflac Cancer Center investigator-led trials. Over 600 regional swimmers of all skill levels, Olympians, and cancer survivors will come together for this great cause. More than fifteen Olympians are expected to swim the open-water event and participate in an autograph clinic for the 600-plus registered swimmers, 200-plus land volunteers, Continued on page 18

Welcome Back, Jarrett! SGHS Welcomes an Old Friend as New Principal By K. Coats South Gwinnett High School (SGHS) received a pleasant surprise at the end of the last school year when the new incoming principal was announced. One of their own, Mrs. Dorothy Jarrett, would be returning to lead. The reaction in the gym as the announcement was made sounded like a family member had just won the lottery, and in a way SGHS has. Anyone who has had the pleasure to work with Principal Jarrett knows she has what it takes to lead SGHS students and faculty into a fantastic year: patience, fairness, clarity, aspiration, and passion. Jarrett’s time at SGHS began as a special education teacher in 2002 when she was hired by then principal Mr. Bobby Crowson. The next principal, Mr. Berry Simmons, didn’t take long to notice Jarrett’s potential, and within two years he had recommended her to become an assistant principal. When asked about the leap from teacher to assistant principal, Jarrett explained, “I saw an opportunity to have a broader impact on student achievement by working with teachers to build their capacity.” And within the school halls, that impact was felt by all. Students and teachers alike respected the assistant principal’s consistency in the rules as well as her encouragement and positivity. Her trademark high heels clicking down the hallway meant one thing: somewhere in the school business was being handled and problems were being solved. After two years as a teacher and five as an assistant principal, Jarrett went on to become Principal Jarrett at Summerour Middle School, a position she would hold for the next ten years. That experience is what Jarrett brings with her as she returns to the halls of SGHS. But staying in the principal’s office isn’t part of her plans as the school year begins. Principal Jarrett will be out and about as a highly visible presence around the school. She wants to “ensure that I am in classrooms 80% of the time, participating in curriculum meetings, developing leaders for the district, and building community partnerships.” When it comes to manning the helm Continued on page 16

SportsTalk: Parkview High Fall Preview By Amy Ney School buses have returned to the streets of Lilburn, and while the headache of traffic isn’t appreciated, the community of Parkview High School will happily welcome the return of high school sports. The fields, courts, and trails will soon be populated with Panther athletes participating in their respective fall sports. This year, Parkview ranked number one in the state of Georgia for its athletics program. “I take pride in that,” Athletic Director Nick Gast said about their ranking. “It’s due to the great tradition, the people who came before me, and the success of the past thirty years. I am honored to be here leading in this position.” The Panther football team went 11-1 last season. Preseason the team was ranked sixth in the state. One of this year’s standouts, Cody Brown, a junior, will once again be a player to watch. Brown was ranked 53 nationally and 6th in the state. According to Gast, Head Coach Eric Godfree, who is entering his sixth season with the Panthers, isn’t focused on rankings; they have been working hard every day to have the best season. Each season the athletic department gets together and chooses a word or phrase to inspire and represent their goals for the upcoming year. This year, Parkview will be “United Pursuit.” Gast explained, “As a school and as a team, we will be united in our pursuit. We will work together and have the same goal: to be our best. We will be able to achieve this by supporting each team, together.” Parkview’s softball team will once again be looking to move the program forward. Jessica Sinclair, the new head coach, transitioned to Parkview early in the summer from Apalachee High School. A former Georgia Tech outfielder herself, Sinclair is excited about this season. “Our large senior Continued on page 18

Cheap Date Gwinnett: Finding Fun Without Breaking the Bank By Beth Volpert Johansen Talk about an affordable date night came to our dinner table on a rare and precious evening when all the “children” had gathered to visit for a family birthday. A couple of the lads had been creative when it came to planning and executing time with their girls while keeping to a budget. So what was an acceptable place or event for a date that wouldn’t break the bank? Because we are just shy of being the Partridge Family when it comes to our love of music, the variety of local free concerts topped our list. Suwanee Town Green has the large open grassy area to the back of their venue, which provides a great place for the kids to join a soccer game in the making. And then there is the fountain for splashy fun. Grayson’s new ampavilion has attracted some big names and solid favorites. And it isn’t much ado about nothing check ad for ALL content. Leading the county and leading the way for free fun is the City of Lawrenceville. Hardly an evening goes by without a movie on the lawn (check out movies on all the city sites – there is something for everyone). Festivals and concerts are among the expected, but the simple act of strolling the square has made a huge comeback. While Lawrenceville might not have the trendy appeal of scooters on the beltline, the city has worked hard to establish a stroll-able square suitable Continued on page 17

South Gwinnett High Principal Continued from page 12 of a middle school or a high school, Jarrett points out that “as a principal, we lead the people and manage the operations.” And like the best leaders, Principal Jarrett will be leading from the front just as she always has. “There are a number of teachers who are here from my previous years as a Comet, and they remembered me as the fast walking AP in high heel shoes supporting teachers,” she says. “I love being back; now I will be the fast walking principal in high heel shoes supporting teachers.” Concerning her own inspirations, Principal Jarrett didn’t have to look far. “CEO/ Superintendent Mr. Wilbanks is my role model,” she claims. “He had the capacity to see what Gwinnett County Public Schools might be over 22 years ago when he became our leader. I think really good principals are great dreamers, thinkers, visionary leaders who can successfully communicate a clear vision of the future, creating a synergy that produces a team of people committed to making it happen.” She adds, “I am so thankful to Mr. Wilbanks and the school board for approving me to be principal of SGHS.” As the school year begins, Principal Jarrett has high aspirations for her students and the com-

munity as a whole. Concerning local school goals, she explains, “I do know that we must teach the curriculum at high levels, communicate clear expectations for student academic performance/behavior while creating a culture of excellence in everything we do.” But her long-term plans are even more comprehensive and take into account that a school and its community are joined. She looks forward to “building relationships with our students, encouraging them to be the best they can be, providing social, emotional, and academic support.” Principal Jarrett also adds, “I look forward to 100% of our students graduating on time, ready for college or a career. All of our students will become productive citizens in our society and hopefully bring their talents back to Gwinnett County.” As a former SGHS teacher who went to Assistant Principal Jarrett many times for help and guidance, this writer, along with all of the staff at Our Town Gwinnett, wishes Principal Jarrett and her faculty, staff, and students at South Gwinnett High School a wonderful year as they begin new adventures and seek exciting opportunities. Cheap Date Gwinnett Continued from page 15 for teens to the “mature” dater. This gal and her husband found that a cheap date meant we were able to get in a few steps, window shop, stop by Nancy’s Candy and Spices for a bag of her incredible lemon almonds ($3), wander down to Liberty Books for a nice second-hand read or Galactic Quest for a comic book, and then make a decision as to whether or not we would have coffee or a Slow Pour – because, for the price of a locally brewed craft beer, a whole night of “yard games” was offered as a bonus! Our kids were just as creative. Ask your girl to go fishing at one of our local parks and she just might think you are the best ever – if you promise to handle the bait! Finding time to just wander the trails at one of our local parks has also been one of our favorites. Plus, walking around will give you the excuse to spend your dollars on ice cream. How much more old-fashioned can you get? Well, maybe just a little bit more. Our libraries are up-to-” date” with their offerings as well. Besides having passes to museums, parks, and the zoo for FREE (get ‘em fast), the library has become a place to lounge with a magazine, play a game of chess, or attend a book signing by one of several authors who appeal to audiences young and “mature.” With work schedules being what they are, an unconventional date might be in order. How about the Snellville Farmer’s Market on a Saturday morning? Imagine the colors of the fruits and vegetables and the smell of fresh-baked breads and pastries. And the coffee is a MUST. It is old-fashioned fun at its finest. They also offer Food Truck Events and a whole host of other free offerings. Sugar Hill offers “The Sweet Life” with concerts at The Bowl, a splash park nestled in a community plaza offering a light and water show. Grab a bite to eat and sit at one of their picnic tables while you watch and mingle with the neighbors. Buford’s Community Theater is a great place to snag reasonable tickets to see stage performances or just get lost in the history of the city starting with the free Buford Museum. For a bit of nostalgia and history, take a stroll around Norcross. Pretend you are Judy Garland and her leading man in the Good ‘Ole Summertime or Meet Me in St. Louis while you wander past the grand historic homes. It’s free, it’s nostalgic, and it’s fun. With Gwinnett’s growth enormous opportunities abound for free and “cheap” date night (or day) offerings. Everyone from kids to adults can find something to occupy a few hours. One last tip: appetizers. Dinner out doesn’t have to be too expensive. Sharing a couple of appetizers from any one of the fine dining establishments gives you a taste of what to expect when the budget is more robust. In the meantime, check out all the different city and county websites for events and happenings all around our county. I hope to see you out there and enjoy your company!

and over 1,000 spectators. Participants can swim individually or as part of a team, and can choose from half-mile, 1-mile, and 5K distances. There will also be a duck splash zone for all ages to enjoy. The funds raised between 2013 and 2016 swim events have been used to support brain tumor research, including research that led to the identification of a novel driver medulloblastoma tumor growth and metastasis. Funds raised between 2016 and 2019 support Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) research and a new clinical trial at the Aflac Cancer Center. According to Nicole Schwartz, SAA-Atlanta event director, “The reason for the success of the SAA-Atlanta swim are our 40-plus local swim teams from high schools, swim clubs, families, and corporate teams like sponsors Accenture and Cisco, who dive into ‘fun’ raising in honor and memory of cancer warriors.” She adds, “Thanks to their commitment, we’ve been able to contribute so much over the years to this deserving cause.” Event director, Alison Millsaps also commented, “Each year, we set our sights on a big fundraising goal, with the hope of creating an even bigger splash for cancer research. We ask each registered swimmer to commit to a fundraising minimum, but because of their passion for the cause, many of our swimmers more than surpass their numbers.” It’s definitely a group effort. The survivors and their medical team encourage the swimmers to stay connected to their cause. Two-time Olympian and world-record holder, Missy Franklin, shared her thoughts about the camaraderie she experienced during this event. “On event day,” she said, “there’s an extraordinary bond between our teams, the doctors, and our survivors. You are surrounded by an amazing group of individuals from some of the world’s best swimmers to regional and beginning swimmers, including survivors. Everyone is diving in with a determination for a cancer cure, and it’s truly a powerful experience.” Part of that determination is led by Dr. Douglas Graham, MD, PhD, Director of the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, who said, “Thanks to partners like Swim Across America, the Aflac Cancer Center remains a national leader in pediatric cancer treatment by developing protocols that improve the way we fight childhood cancer.” He added, “Swim Across America’s commitment to cancer research, including our new clinical trial for patients with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), is critical to helping us find innovative treatment options.” Swimmers can also brush up on stroke technique and prepare for the Open Water Swim at an SAA hosted Open Water Clinic. class is a group of girls to watch out for this fall season,” she said. “They bring a lot of experience and talent to the table.” Having also graduated no seniors last season should put the Panthers in a good position to do well. The girls’ volleyball team is also under new direction this season with Jenell Godfree stepping in as the new head volleyball coach. The wife of the football head coach, Jenell was a volleyball player herself in college, and she brings a great perspective to the Parkview team. “Having two coaches in our household has only come about by the personal calling Eric and I believe is from the Lord for the next generation,” she said. “He will be faithful to give us the strength to endure.” Jamie McBurney will pick up where she left off last year as the coach of Parkview’s Competition Cheerleading Team. She has been working hard for three years, and this year’s competition squad is sure to impress. McBurney was able to bring back a junior varsity competition cheer team for Parkview, something the Panthers have lacked for several years. Last year’s varsity team was able to make it to sectionals, and this year they hope to go even further Cross country, under the guidance of Head Coach Mike Demarest, has some quality runners returning with experience from last year, as well as the addition of a new coach, Aimee Michael. The upcoming cross country season looks to be a pretty special one as a ton of talent returns on a boys’ team that finished top 10 at State, and a girls’ team that narrowly missed qualifying but returns 9 of the top 10 runners. The young talent from last season has been rapidly developing and will be carrying the momentum through this season. The Parkview Marching Band is excited to debut the 2019 production “Destination: Earth.” Director Jason Atha invites the community to come see the top-ranking band in action. “You can see us perform at every Parkview football game, plus at our competitions on September 21st, September 28th, and October 5th.” The band was selected to attend the prestigious 2020 London New Year’s Day Parade. Atha added, “We are excited that our students will travel overseas at the end of 2019 to perform and take part in a cultural exchange.” The London New Year’s Parade is the world’s largest parade, with 650,000 patrons on site and 500 million viewers watching on broadcast networks across the world. The Football and Band Booster Clubs will also host a combined fundraiser this fall, benefiting both the football and band programs. The event will take place September 14th at Parkview and will include a live auction. Community members who want to check out the action at Parkview can log onto their new website to see a complete master schedule. Fans can also purchase tickets online. If you have a problem crating your dog (you feel bad/sad about it) then I ask you: If you had a human baby, would you keep it out and awake all day? No! You would put it down for naps, helping it to learn to self soothe and to be still and separate. A puppy is a baby dog. Think of a crate like a playpen, crib, or swing, and use it so your pet can have some down time, learn to chill, and be separate. Will they cry at first? Maybe, but if they do, either ignore or correct. But don’t take them out while they are fussing or you will be teaching them that when they fuss, you come running, which further perpetuates the “we can’t be apart” mindset.
