An Outstanding School

Spotlight on the Blackpool Walk. This month we speak to Lee McConville, David Knox and Adam Hodgson who have just completed a walk from Willington to Blackpool in aid of The Chyrelle Addams Cancer Support Centre. Hello fellas, tell us a little bit about your individual reasons for doing this walk. It was Adam’s idea originally, he was going to do it alone then I offered to do it with him as I have had family affected by Cancer. David also for the same reasons offered to come with us and the trio was formed.

was clear he knew how to survive these conditions and take our minds off the task ahead.

What was the route that you took, having driven to Blackpool loads I know there’s a lot of ups and downs? Day 1 we headed to Richmond, day 2 saw us in Hawes followed by Claughton at the end of day 3 then Preston North at the end of day 4. Final day was obviously Blackpool Tower we arrived roughly at half 2 on the Friday having set off at 9am on the Monday.

What got you through it and what were each of your personal low points during the walk? There was a lot of high and low moral points. Day 1 and day 5 saw our highest and day 3 saw our lowest. When we were alone on the top of the peaks in the unforgiving wind and rain, we all had to dig very deep. Fortunately, Lee is ex-military and this day and many other days it

It must have been a great feeling as you saw the sign for Blackpool, tell us what was going through your mind and what sort of reception you received when you go there. Excitement and pride were probably the two main feelings. The reception when we arrived was unreal the whole of Wetherspoon’s were clapping and cheering which was totally unexpected. Adam got a little emotional and tears could be seen in his eyes he still gets a little teary now when he talks about it. How can people donate to the Chyrelle Addams Cancer Support Centre?

The centre is at Royal Corner in Crook and donations can be made at the centre at anytime. We are grateful for every penny we have raised for this amazing centre, without vital funding it wouldn’t exist. Adam put majority of the work into the preparation he was out talking with local businesses to get the funding we needed to do the walk. This in turn allowed us to raise what we believe is around the £1800 mark going directly to the centre (final count will be revealed on our Facebook Page “beating Cancer one step at a time” when all outstanding money is collected and counted).
