Spotlight on Farplace Animal Rescue This month we shine the spotlight on Farplace Animal Rescue, who’ve just opened 2 new shops in Crook. We speak to shop manager Jay Davies. Hi Jay, tell us a little bit about what Farplace Animal Rescue do? We have a rescue centre in Weardale serving the North East and we help animals rejected elsewhere. We also help out other rescues where we can with support from our shops. What sort of donations are you looking for? We are looking for clothes, giftware, electricals, books and toys especially. How else can people help out? People can volunteer in the shops and join our happy team or donate via our website www.farplace.org.uk How has Covid 19 affected the charity? Our fundraising events have all been cancelled since March 2020 and our shops have been closed for 7 months of the last 12. But government support for retail has helped us to survive which we are very grateful for. What are your hopes for 2021 for the charity? To be back to normal fundraising and not to have

any more lockdowns plus for our staff, volunteers and supporters to all have a healthy and happy end to the year. Contact Details Telephone 01388 240 085 or email us at crookshop@farplace.org.uk Alternatively pop into one of our Crook shops from Monday to Saturday from 9am till 5pm. Donations accepted throughout and FREE collection is also available. Thanks for the opportunity and the spread! We’re also available on Facebook via @farplaceshopcrook

What have Crook NPT been up to this month? Crook NPT is made up of 1 Sergeant, 4 Police Constables and several Police Community Support Officers who work closely with Response Officers based at Crook, as well as other specialist policing teams across Durham Constabulary. We aim to deliver excellent policing. Inspiring confidence to victims and our communities by protecting neighbourhoods, tackling criminals and solving problems around the clock, proud to deliver value for money policing across the 3 Towns. What have you been up to this month? Following a series of incidents of ASB in Glenholme Park, Crook police have worked in partnership with your councillors the Area Action Partnership and secured funding to install several cameras throughout the park. This will assist police to address the issues pro-actively and ensure the children who use the facilities can do safely. Off road bikes are not only a nuisance to residents with noise issues, but a danger to motorists and pedestrians. Naturally it is imperative we as a beat team tackle this pro-actively but also safely, the best way to do this is to have members of the public provide community intelligence and CCTV footage and allow us to positively identify the rider. This has been done recently in Crook where the rider will be summoned to court for driving offences. We can not stress enough that we need community support to do this. If you have any information relating to incidents of this nature then please report them to 101 or alternatively get in touch with Crook NPT via Facebook and we can work together to address these offences. Recently Crook police have seen a rise in demand in Tow Law, there are a number of issues contributing to this and police are working 16

closely with the relevant partner agencies to manage the situation. What we need is to be made aware of incidents by members of the public, you can do this by calling 101 or reporting via our live chat service on the Durham Constabulary website. Remember to always contact 999 in the event of an emergency. Our colleagues in Weardale have a new Facebook profile, if you have any interests in the Dales then find them on Facebook under Weardale Police. Social media is not a way of reporting crime but is a great way of keeping up to date with the goings on in the Dales. For another way of keeping up to date with what is going on in your community sign up to ‘Keep in the Know’. Officers from Crook police will be available to assist yourself, a friend or relative with home security. We have received a stock of home security equipment from the Area Action Partnership, If you would benefit from advice and equipment to protect your home then please get in touch with one of our officers at Crook police by emailing chris.davison@durham.police.uk we will arrange a home visit to discuss any concerns you have. Stay safe. Crook NPT
