11am - 1pm MERIAN: SINGING FOR RESISTANCE
Merian is a young non-binary singer from Lima, Peru. In this collaborative workshop we’ll write a song of resistance and strength together and sing it later at the gig, though you don’t have to perform to be in the workshop. This is open to everyone of all ages and it doesn’t matter whether or not you are a “good” singer, or what your gender is, or your sexuality. This is about using our voices to sing about the things that need to be changed. Come and make queer noise with us!
1pm - 4pm ALL-GENDER ALL-SIZE CLOTHES SWAP
Freshen up your wardrobe with a new look for ZERO PENCE. Bring whatever clothes you want to get rid of (washed and clean) and take whatever clothes you like in return, simple as that! There will be space to try things on and some queer fashion experts on hand to help you find what you need. If you have nothing to swap, you can make a donation for any clothes you want. Bring t-shirts, shirts, hats, dresses, jeans, skirts, whatever! Pass on what you don’t want anymore, take what you need.

2pm-3pm FILM: OUT Suitable for 14+ (Denis Parrot, 2018)

In this brilliant new documentary film, young LGBTQI+ people from all over the world come out to family members on camera. Some reactions are touching, some infuriating, some hilarious but all very moving . You’ll be on the edge of your seat. Popcorn and tissues provided.
3pm- 4pm ZINE MAKING
Help make a queerzine in an afternoon by contributing a page. We’ll print it and share copies during the rest of the Outburst festival. Materials provided.

PILLOW QUEENS STRANGE NEW PLACES MERIAN +Queer? a performance Some of the best queer music you’ll hear this year, for all ages. Pillow Queens are hook-heavy pop-punks from Dublin, with glorious songwriting, sunny harmonies, infectious sing-a-long choruses. And they have dogs in their videos. Belfast’s Strange New Places are a band of right-on radicals, nestled between folk punk and power pop,. They’re often found singing about politics, mental health, and queerness (when they’re not quoting 90s TV and getting in peoples way). Merian is our special guest from Peru. They will performing a full gig of queered-up traditional Peruvian music in the Black Box on Sunday night but will play a special taster as part of the showcase. The gig will start with a short performance, “Queer?”: young people on queer identity and what it means for them, in their own words.
