SOUTH FLORIDA’S GOLDEN ENTERTAINER

Jennifer McClain By Denny Patterson

08 | OutClique.com

Let me start off by asking, what originally brought you to South Florida? I had been working on cruise ships for several years, and I was seeing someone and decided that since we couldn’t work on the same ship, one of us would stay on land. He was docked in Port Everglades. So I figured, “Ok, I’ll head down to South Florida.” I moved down with little money, no car, and no idea what I was going to do. About a year later, I was hosting karaoke in bars and living in my own apartment and eventually grew into what I do now. What inspired you to be a performer? I always enjoyed singing and acting, and at one point even dancing, even though that is now long behind me! It all started in early high school. I was on a nationally ranked synchronized swim team we were all coming back from a competition and we were sitting in the van singing along to Grease. One of the girls on my team had a brother who had just been in the show, and her mom was driving. She said, “You have a really good voice, you should tryout for the swing choir.” So, I went and auditioned, and I absolutely fell in love with performing. I took private lessons and did the shows all throughout high school and went on to pursue a degree in musical theatre.

If you never pursued musical theatre and performing, what path do you think life would have taken you? Oh gosh, I don’t know. That’s a really good question. I never really thought about doing anything else. Although, I always enjoyed science and history, and my mom was a teacher, so I may have become a teacher. Who knows? Can you tell me more about the kind of performances you do? Most of my performances that I do, as far as the weekly shows, are audience request shows. I really like doing them because it makes me unique and different because I am going based off what audiences are requesting. Audiences are always made up of different people, so there is a variety of requests. It’s a unique experience, and I can sing songs from a variety of different artists and styles. I use background tracks for a lot of those shows, but there are some shows I sing with an accompanist, and they are brilliant. They can play anything as long as we have the sheet music for it.

eorgie’s Alibi Monkey Bar (mostly known as, “Alibi”) in Wilton Manors has a wide variety of entertainment seven days a week that audiences cannot get enough of, and one of their most well-known performers is Jennifer McClain. McClain has maintained a permanent residency with Alibi for the past 10 years which many people would consider a pretty impressive milestone. Performing is not only a full-time career, it’s a passion. Originally from Buffalo, New York, McClain moved to South Florida ironically the same year when Alibi first opened its doors. It was as if their paths were destined to cross. In addition to Alibi, McClain performs at other venues and bars throughout South Florida, but her shows at Alibi are where she feels most at home. I had the pleasure of chatting more with McClain about her performing career and her love for the LGBTQ community.

When can people catch your shows at Alibi? Saturday and Monday nights and every other Sunday Brunch. Saturday is just me. Although I do occasionally bring up a friend from the audience to sing with me. But on Mondays, I do a show called, “Cast Party.” That is where I officially have special guests. I have a lot of people from Broadway national tours that come through Fort Lauderdale join me that night. We’ve had people from Kinky Boots, Book of Mormon, Little Mermaid, some of the leads for Anastasia came out and sang. It’s a good way for them to kick off their shoes, hang out and sing with us. It’s a lot of fun. It sounds like audiences can definitely expect a lot of fun at your shows. Oh, yes! I try to be as fun as possible!

How did you initially get involved with Alibi? A friend of mine, a drag performer/live singer/comedian/magician known as Cashetta, would periodically leave to go do cruises and out of town engagements and would find someone to come in and fill her spot. She came to me and asked if I would fill in for her while she went away, and I said sure. That would be great. So, she went away and when she came back, she said this was the first time that she had 10 | OutClique.com

How do you keep each and every show fresh and exciting? People just don’t know what’s going to happen. I mean, I don’t even know what’s going to happen most of the time! I may go into a show thinking, you know what, I think I want to do all Broadway tonight. Then later on in the evening, I’m singing Bananarama and The Bangles. Always expect the unexpected, and audiences always love when I do ridiculous stuff I shouldn’t do. Like any song that’s vulgar and has cursing. As I have gotten older, I have gotten a little less concerned with having a squeaky clean image. Audiences can see that I’m still a little uncomfortable doing those kinds of song, and they get a kick out of watching me squirm. [Laughs]

someone fill in for her and she didn’t wake up the next day to emails from people complaining about the replacement performer. So, I became her official fill in from that point on! That was in 2007, and in 2008, she left South Florida to do a residency in Las Vegas and that is when Alibi asked if I would like to come on board full time with them. I said, heck yes! What makes Alibi so special to you and how do you think it stands out from other LGBTQ bars? Well for one, the longevity of it. It’s been a staple bar in the center of the LGBTQ community for years. They also have something for everyone. They have a great restaurant, great nightlife, and a ton of entertainment. We have great drag shows all the time, but we have nine(!) live shows a week. It’s a pretty incredible and unique place with something for everybody. No matter if you’re old, young, early risers, night owls – we have something for you. Why is the LGBTQ community so important for you? I have had gay friends all the way back in high school, and I’m not young! Especially working in theatre. I honestly wouldn’t know what to do if I didn’t have friends in the community. I truly try to be an ally whenever possible, and part of being an ally is using my platform as a white, cis, straight woman. I am not one of the marginalized groups but being immersed in the community gives me an opportunity to sometimes speak out when I hear something disparaging. If I hear someone misgender someone, I can step in and say that’s not right. It’s easy for me to say that because it won’t come back on me. There’s not a fear that I may have if I were trying to stand up for myself. I have used my platform to do benefits for HIV/AIDS, food banks, disaster relief, and other local and national charities.

What are some of the perks and challenges of being a performer? Well, always keeping it fresh can be a challenge but it's easier with a request based show, I'm always trying to learn something new and not have things go stale. There is something to be said about the classics, but also trying to keep it interesting and comical and work for all the ranges of people that come in. Some people love country music, some people hate it. So, I always like to tell audiences during a show that if you don’t like this song, it’s only three and a half minutes long. I’ll sing something you like next, just bear with me for these three and a half minutes! What has been one of your most memorable performances? I had volunteered to perform at what was originally going to be a music type festival rally for the Democratic Party, and I was originally told that Al Franken was going to be there along with all of these other entertainers. Later that evening, I was told that maybe Chelsea Clinton was going to show up. Then even later on in the evening, I got an email saying that it's not going to be at the park and the event is going to be inside The Manor because of security issues since Hillary Clinton was coming. I still have people stop me in the street saying, “Hey, I remember when you sang for Hillary!” It was really cool, and it was an amazing opportunity. I don’t think she was actually in the room when I performed, but I did get to shake her hand by the end of the night. What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for? Yes! I will be traveling this summer to perform on Fire Island August 4, 2019 at The Ice Palace, and right from there for the first time ever, I will be performing in P-town. Not only is this my first time performing there, but this is my first time ever visiting. I will be performing August 6 and 7, 2019 at Tin Pan Alley with Jack Aaronson. I am really excited for that. I am also working on a new one woman show. Not sure what it will be titled yet, it’s still a work in progress. And I just plan on bringing more wonderful entertainment to South Florida! WHAT MAKES US CLIQUE

LEE RUBIN

By Andy Armano | www.AndyArmano.com This series focuses on individuals who give to our community and make a positive impact on the lives of others. Often it is through our personal adversities that we discover who we are and transform the challenges into strength. Photo by Andy Armano | www.AndyArmano.com

L

ee has been a prominent activist for the LGBTQ community for decades. He served on the Board of Directors for national organizations, including HRC and National LGBTQ Taskforce. Here in South Florida, he has been involved with The Pride Center and Our Fund and has been honored with a Business of Pride Outstanding Voices Award from the South Florida Business Journal and an Out 50 Award from SFGN. Recently, he sat down with us to discuss his role as Senior Manager, Diversity and Inclusion at Citrix.

Andy Armano: Talk a bit about your early years. Where did you get your passion for advocacy? Lee Rubin: I grew up in a family where giving back was really important. Growing up Jewish, I did a lot of things through the Jewish Reform Movement. I’ve always had this thing for volunteering and for taking leadership roles. I grew up on the Main Line area of Philadelphia, an area of trust funds, it’s very WASP-y. I definitely had a sense of being the “other” growing up. My early career was spent in DC and I immediately got involved in advocacy. And at the end of 2009, my husband and I were ready for a change and decided to move from DC down to Fort Lauderdale.

AA

I know you have a long history of work with HRC, Pride Center, LGBT Task Force and Our Fund, but how did your activism translate to the corporate world?

LR

After getting hired at Citrix as a marketing director, I pretty quickly

26 | OutClique.com

got involved in the company’s internal Pride Alliance, which is our LGBTQ group as a volunteer on top of my full-time position. We were able to make significant changes at Citrix. We convinced the company to participate in the HRC Corporate Equality Index which gives a company the designation of “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality.” The first year we did the survey, we scored only an 85%. So we decided not to submit, but to do the work needed to achieve 100% to be a “Best Places to Work.” In 2017, we resubmitted and scored 100%. We've been 100% for the last three years.

AA LR

How do you get buy-in from corporate leadership?

First, it’s the right thing to do, But, diversity and inclusion are also good for business and does improve profits and productivity. There are numerous studies that prove this.

AA

You recently managed to make your volunteering advocacy efforts your full-time job. How did that happen?

LR

In early 2018, Citrix decided to create a dedicated diversity and inclusion program in September and I become the new Senior Manager for Diversity and Inclusion. I currently run our corporate ERG programs globally, each of which supports a specific underrepresented group. We have an employee resource group focused on women which is our WIN group. We have black professionals, Latino professionals, a veterans group, a disability group, and a foster care and adoption group. I manage all those programs. I'm really taking the lessons that I learned from running the Pride Alliance and expanding that to make life better at Citrix for all of our underrepresented minorities. This summer we're going to be named a “Best Place to Work for Disability Equality” as well.

AA

So your advocacy now includes other underrepresented groups. How have you navigated this transition?

LR

One of the things my boss said to me was, "The first job is to take your passion for your identity and expand it for other identities" I really took that to heart. I think I've been really successful in showing that same kind of passion for the rest of our underrepresented minorities at Citrix.

our employees, $50,000 for victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting. The Supreme Court just took three cases that they're going to decide next year. They will decide if Title VII, which is the Civil Rights Act, includes gender identity and gender expression.

AA LR

What’s your approach to fostering inclusion within a corporation?

It’s really about creating a sense of belonging for employees. We have this new tagline for the department which is "I belong at Citrix." The difference between including someone and creating a sense of belonging is very different. Including is saying, "You can come to the party," but belonging is really creating an atmosphere where everyone can let their hair down and dance.

AA

Do you see changes within corporations having a broader impact on society?

LR

Yes, We have offices around the world and our corporate values are as alive there as anywhere. We're launching new chapters in Raleigh, NC; Bangalore, India; and Santa Clara, CA. We're also expanding our offices in Dublin, the UK, and Costa Rica.

AA

Under your guidance, Citrix has made some fairly large contributions to diversity and inclusion. Talk about that.

LR

I am especially proud of Citrix’s corporate advocacy. Just in the last two years, we've signed on to 11 amicus briefs to the Supreme Court alongside other major corporations. Citrix first used its corporate voice for change in Raleigh, North Carolina, regarding HB2, which was the North Carolina bathroom bill. This was the first time that Citrix ever took a political stand on an issue. We basically said that hate wasn't good for business. We also gave and we raised, through

TIM HOUSE AND TIM ADAMS ARE A CLEANING POWERHOUSE

By John M. Hayden

T

Photos by OutClique Magazine

hey say cleanliness is next to godliness. But for some things, cleanliness is next to impossible! That's where Tim Adams and Tim House come in. With nearly sixty years of cleaning experience between them, they've been keeping South Florida homes squeaky clean for decades. Sure, we all grab a can of polish and a bottle of glass cleaner and run an overused rag over our furniture. But we all know that only gets it clean-ish. Tim and Tim go where we don't wanna go: deep in the crevices, the corners of the baseboards, the too-hard-to-reach inside of a bathroom faucet. Tim House specializes in floors. We walk all over 'em, he comes in and cleans 'em. "People should have their carpets cleaned every four months, especially if they have pets," he says. "Upholstery should be cleaned twice a year." And if tile is more your style, he provides TLC for that, too. "Floor care is important. You bring stuff in from outside everyday. People walk barefoot. The oil from your feet get things dirty. So you want to keep it clean because sometimes the floors are porous if they're not treated with sealer on the tiles." And he's not just about your inside floors. Mr. House also comes to the rescue for outside mold, and power washings for awnings and fences. After 28 years, he's seen everything. And his most memorable job, was a dirty job. "A sewage backup. Flooded like five units. I was there for a week. Raw sewage. It was all over everyone's floors, their furniture. It was all over the backyard. It was hard to get rid of." Clearly if he can deal with that, he can deal with your mess. His partner in clean, Tim Adams, targets the 32 | OutClique.com

rest of your home. "I do all the cleaning top to corners I do it all." He also focuses on the thing many of us dread cleaning the most: bathrooms. He also gets down and cleans the baseboards that attract and don't let go. And that's just one of his services. "House sitting, pet sitting, and anything you need I can do. Need someone to watch over projects or reorganize kitchens. Moving in or out, I get them done." Plus he's a notary. And if you've been doing some remodeling at home, they're ready to come in and tag team the cleanup. "We wipe down the walls, clean the floors, the windows, the bathrooms. Get your house back in top shape. The fine dust gets in your furniture, it gets everywhere." Even with so many talents, there is one that makes them stand out above other cleaning services, they're reliable. We've all had contractors show up late, if they show up at all. The Tims pride themselves on being different. "We're reliable, dependable," Tim House says. "There's a lot of people out there that don't show up. We're not flaky. You call us, we're there."

OBESITY HEALTH RISKS

A

lmost 40 percent of U.S. adults and 18.5 percent of youth are obese, according to the 2015-2016 findings by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The findings are important because obesity health risks create a number of medical issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease. Obesity hampers mobility and may have a negative effect on self-esteem.

Definition of Obesity Obesity in adults is having a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or more, and extreme obesity is 40+ BMI. In youth (up to age 19), obesity is being at or above the 95th percentile on the CDC growth charts, with extreme obesity at or above the 120 percent mark. BMI is a calculation that is a relationship between height and weight. Many factors influence weight, including family history, eating habits, hormones, lifestyle choices, and psychological factors. Obesity isn’t just a cosmetic issue defined by eating too much and lack of self-control. TAKING CONTROL OF YOUR CREDIT SCORE Rod Davis CEO BBB serving Southeast Florida and the Caribbean

S

chool teaches us many things and we can all remember math, English, history, government, and other classes. Unfortunately, we are not always taught about finances and the important role credit plays in our lives as consumers. Even worse, some businesses and scammers will attempt to use our collective ignorance about credit scores to take advantage of consumers. What is a Credit Score and Why is it Important? The Federal Trade Commission does a good job explaining this topic. Credit scoring is a system creditors use to help determine whether to give you credit. It also may be used to help decide the terms you are offered or the rate you will pay for the loan. Information about you and your credit experiences, like your bill-paying history, the number and type of accounts you have, whether you pay your bills by the date they’re due, collection actions, outstanding debt, and the age of your accounts, is collected from your credit report. Using a statistical program, creditors compare this information to the loan repayment history of consumers with similar profiles. For example, a credit scoring system awards points for each factor that helps predict who is most likely to repay a debt. A total number of points — a credit score — helps predict how creditworthy you are: how likely it is that you will repay a loan and make the payments when they’re due.

54 | OutClique.com

700

Some insurance companies also use credit report information, along with other factors, to help predict your likelihood of filing an insurance claim and the amount of the claim. They may consider this information when they decide whether to grant you insurance and the amount of the premium they charge. The credit scores insurance companies use sometimes are called “insurance scores” or “credit-based insurance scores.” Since most consumers will have to use credit to buy a car, a home and/or other major purchases, having a good credit score can help you save hundreds or thousands of dollars over the life of a loan. Additionally, consumers with a very bad credit score may not be approved for a loan, given insurance, etc. It is wise to know what your credit score is and that it is accurate. How do I check out My Credit Score? The federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires the credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) provide a free annual credit report every 12 months. You can obtain your credit report at: To order, visit www.AnnualCreditReport.com, call 1-877-322-8228, or complete the Annual Credit Report Request Form and mail it to: Annual Credit Report Request Service P.O. Box 105281 Atlanta, GA 30348-5281

There are many sound alike sites that attempt to make money from this request so please be careful to go to the official site. You also do not need to visit the three credit reporting agency sites individually. To validate your identity, be prepared to provide your full name, address, SSN, DOB and other unique information about your financial history. The FTC also provides advice for fixing errors!

FIXING ERRORS ON YOUR REPORT Step One Tell the credit reporting company, in writing, what information you think is inaccurate. Include copies (NOT originals) of documents that support your position. In addition to providing your complete name and address, your letter should clearly identify each item in your report you dispute, state the facts and explain why you dispute the information, and request that it be removed or corrected. You may want to enclose a copy of your report with the items in question circled. Send your letter by certified mail, “return receipt requested,” so you can document what the credit reporting company received. Keep copies of your dispute letter and enclosures. Credit reporting companies must investigate the items in question — usually within 30 days — unless they consider your dispute frivolous. They also must forward all the relevant data you provide about the inaccuracy to the organization that provided the information. After the information provider receives notice of a dispute from the credit reporting company, it must investigate, review the relevant information, and report the results back to the credit reporting company. If the information provider finds the disputed information is inaccurate, it must notify all three nationwide credit reporting companies so they can correct the information in your file. When the investigation is complete, the credit reporting company must give you the results 56 | OutClique.com

in writing and a free copy of your report if the dispute results in a change. This free report does not count as your annual free report. If an item is changed or deleted, the credit reporting company cannot put the disputed information back in your file unless the information provider verifies that it is accurate and complete. The credit reporting company also must send you written notice that includes the name, address, and phone number of the information provider. If an investigation doesn’t resolve your dispute with the credit reporting company, you can ask that a statement of the dispute be included in your file and in future reports. Step Two Tell the information provider (that is, the person, company, or organization that provides information about you to a credit reporting company), in writing, that you dispute an item in your credit report. Include copies (NOT originals) of documents that support your position. If the provider listed an address on your credit report, send your letter to that address. If no address is listed, contact the provider and ask for the correct address to send your letter. If the information provider does not give you an address, you can send your letter to any business address for that provider. If the provider continues to report the item you disputed to a credit reporting company, it must let the credit reporting company know about your dispute. And if you are correct — that is, if the information you dispute is found to be inaccurate or incomplete — the information provider must tell the credit reporting company to update or delete the item. It Takes Time Once the information on your credit report is accurate, the other keys to improving your score are common sense. Pay bills on time, lower the amount of debt carried and limit the amount of new credit applications/inquiries.

REACHING OUT

COMMUNITY MAKING A DIFFERENCE By Rev. Patrick Rogers, MDiv.

I

t was on a Sunday, 14 years ago, that 80-year-old Ruth Earns was the last one to leave and she locked up the church building for United Church of Christ Fort Lauderdale for the day. She noticed a young lady sitting by a palm tree. Ruth said hello and proceeded to her car. As Ruth was unlocking her car door, God tapped Ruth on her shoulder and invited her to go back and asked, “Are you hungry?” The young lady replied, “Yes,” and Ruth reopened the building to find only some bread and peanut butter to make a sandwich. Ruth gave the young lady the sandwich and some water with a side dish of compassion.

Fourteen years later, Ruth Ministry prepares and serves over 8,000 delicious home cooked meals a year. Over 9,000 shirts and 3,600 pairs of shoes and all sorts of other clothing which are donated are given to those in need. Each guest leaves with a goodie bag of snacks. And, the best part is that all are welcome. Over 30 volunteers each Thursday at 11:00AM gather to share a meal with those who are hungry, share clothing and shoes, and a cool space when it is hot outside. The volunteers who contribute their love and time each week come from all faiths. The person who coordinates the desserts is Jewish, the person who greets each guest at the food window is Catholic, the coordinator of the outreach program is Protestant, and on any typical Thursday you will encounter people of the Muslim, Buddhist, and other faith traditions. The age of the volunteers range from 16 to 101 years old. Not only are people of different faiths, sexual orientations, ages, races, and a plethora of cultures and backgrounds involved in helping others, but also organizations who care about

people are now involved! Once a quarter, Weatherby’s Healthcare, Inc. sends over 30 volunteers from their employee base. Hunters Nightclub owners and staff donate not only their time, but also food for the meals. The Pub owners donate their time to maintain the building and grounds and other aspects of Ruth Ministry. Wilton Wings donates food, clothing, and their volunteer time. Temple Adath Or’s membership prepares, cooks, and serves the food for the annual Ruth Ministry Christmas meal. Panera Bread, Winn Dixie, Publix, Whole Foods, and other markets donate food. There are a multitude of companies and organizations who care. Every Thursday for two hours, there is an oasis that can be found. The water flows freely, love is abundant, and compassion is the main course. Jesus fed 4,000 and 5,000 without exception. We believe that was a great example! It is a blessing to see a community of people and communities of faith make a difference! Love Always Wins!

SPIRITUAL ACCEPTANCE A JOURNEY NOT AN EVENT

F

aith. It's hard to find and easy to lose. But spend a moment with Rev. Patrick Rogers and you begin to feel it. He exudes an energy driven by his faith in God and a desire to help people, whether they share his faith or not. "I just wanna share what God's given me and help people because it's been a wonderful life, there's no words to adequately describe it. I grow every day in my own journey." Pastor at United Church of Christ Fort Lauderdale (UCC), and fellow OutClique contributor, he talked with me about his journey to this point in his life. A long and winding road filled with doubt, rejection, and redemption, he's sharing a life of experience to bring hope and help to others. 60 | OutClique.com

By John M. Hayden

Rev. Rogers hasn't been a minister all his life. A good chunk of time was spent consulting for hotels and the hospitality industry. It sounds like a career 180, but he says it really wasn't. "The hospitality experience was preparation for ministry. The church is your home. You're inviting guests into your home. You treat them the way they deserve to be treated. There's no difference, except we have a lot more Jesus than in a hotel!" Getting here wasn't easy. Patrick left the church because he felt he couldn't be gay and a Christian. After a 23 year relationship ended, Patrick found a church where the music touched his heart, a message touched his head and fellow worshipers touched his spirit. He went from dipping his toes in the religious waters to diving in head first, going to school, obtaining a degree in divinity, and helping anyone and everyone who crosses his path. "We believe God exists in all of us. We're divine beings, spiritual divine beings. And you help others on their path by empowering and living in love, and helping them believe in themselves and God within them." Now that he's leading UCC in Fort Lauderdale, he's working to reach out to everyone, especially the LGBTQ community. "People got hurt. We all did. People have to learn that they can trust church again. I want to break down the walls, for the community to know that we're part of a mainstream Christian denomination and we celebrate all people. We're brothers, sisters. The reason I like UCC is the LGBT aspect is important. Our call is to social justice." And that isn't a one time thing, it's an ongoing mission. "I like our LGBT outreach. With my experience there's a connection there. And I want to help people who think you have to choose between being gay and being Christian. And that is a specific calling in this church. It is a safe place." The unique thing about Pastor Rogers is his ability to find opportunities in the most unlikely places. As Mother's Day was fast

approaching this past year, he was absolutely stumped on what to preach about, as the reading was not really on point for the occasion. So on a trip to The Pub in Wilton Manors on the Saturday before, he heard a gospel singer named, Maryel Epps, who spiritually moved him. "I'm sitting there thinking, that's it! That's the message. I approached this stranger and asked, ‘You don't know me, but could you come and deliver the sermon tomorrow with your music?' And she said, ‘I've been doing this for 20 years and I've never had a free Mother's Day, and my booking for tomorrow just cancelled.’ It was meant to be!” At this point, seeing a message in everything is second nature for Patrick. "I see God in everything. I believe our call, our journey is to recognize that. Someone told me once that you see God in everything. You see a sermon in everything. I do. I see a lesson." He saw a lesson in a young, Polish man he met at the church. He later ran into him at a store shopping at 1AM, and saw he had turned his life around. Or the trans-woman who only felt comfortable to wear women's clothes when she came to his service. These are the missions he lives and breathes day in, day out. "When they connect with the spiritual gifts they were born with, people blossom, they are free and grow and there's no stopping them." Spend a few minutes with Rev. Rogers, and you'll feel his energy and love, and be all the better for it. But, don't expect him to take any credit. "I feel the Holy Spirit here. People come up to me and say 'I see the light in your eyes.' When I preach it's not me. It's like I'm standing outside myself watching, learning at the same time. Jesus when he healed people they would tell him that they can't wait to go into town and share Jesus' healing. Jesus’ reply was that their faith in God healed them not him. And I think that's important. He didn't want nor need credit." Jesus empowered others! A lesson for us all. OutClique.com | 61

IDENTIFICATION BY DEFINITION HOW OUR PRONOUNS DEFINE US By Daimien J. Matherson

P

ronoun: any of a small set of words in a language that are used as substitutes for nouns or noun phrases and whose referents are named or understood in the context. Just reading the definition of “pronoun” makes it hard to relate to the concept but in truth our pronouns are integral to how we identify to the world. “He is strong.” “She is beautiful.” In sentences like these, we can show how pronouns can be related to different ideas of a person. What happens when we change our pronouns? What happens when our pronouns don’t reflect what society dictates it should? For those who identify with being transgender or in someway gender non-conforming, this is a reality we live in.

As an ally to the trans-community you might have asked yourself, “How do you make sure you’re addressing people correctly? What happens if I accidentally refer to someone incorrectly?” And yes, at times it can be daunting when you don’t quite know but you care about respecting others but, fret not, this is much simpler than you may think. Before you continue into this article, it’s important that we quickly define a few terms. Transgender is someone who identifies as a gender different to the one they were biologically born as. Cisgender is someone who identifies with the gender they were biologically born as. Pass/passing means that an individual presents in a way that would be perceived as the gender in which they identify. So if a transgender woman looks like a cisgender woman she is then passing or passable. What pronouns are there and how do I make sure to use the right one? 64 | OutClique.com

He/Him She/Her They/Their

We have two standard pronouns everyone is accustomed to using, he/him and she/her. Typically we relate he/him to “male passing” individuals and she/her to “female passing” individuals. And although this can be the case for cisgender people, transgender individuals can at times not pass for the typical presentation of these pronouns. This is why it’s important to address this when you first meet someone. A simple question of “what are your preferred pronouns” can radically impact the way a conversation and even friendship can go. Regardless of whether you think you know what pronoun is appropriate, it's best to ask. You never know what life journey someone is on. One pronoun that often comes up is “they.” This can be tricky for many people. Often people say, “But they is plural.” And while your third grade English teacher might have done their job by correcting your grammar this use of “they” is a little different. “They” in relation to identity is used as the gender neutral pronoun commonly used by people who are gender non-conforming or gender-fluid (not directly identifying with any one gender

specifically). It may still feel strange to call one person “they” but what you may not realize is we do this already. If you’re at a hotel and someone you don’t know leaves a cell phone behind you would take it to the front desk. When you get there you would say to the concierge, “Someone left their cell phone behind.” The person is still singular just not gender specific. Less common pronouns you will hear are ones that aren’t in our standard vocabulary. Often these originate as a way to add gender neutral pronouns to languages that don’t have a gender neutral option like the English “they.” These consist of pronouns like zim/zir and sie/hir. Because these are not as common there may be a bit more of a learning curve in understanding which pronouns align with the pronouns you know, like which equal her/ him or he/she. You can respectfully ask these questions. No one is going to expect you to “just know.” What happens if I misgender/misidentify someone? First thing, don’t panic! Often when misgendering happens the offender can panic and try to overcompensate. They might profusely apologize and repeat the proper pronoun over and over. But though the desire to respect is appreciated often this can make the situation worse. It can be embarrassing to both parties and bring unneeded attention to what happened. The best thing you can do is gently and sincerely correct yourself and move past it. Doing it like this quietly recognizes the effort and apology without creating a scene. Ultimately, we all want to be seen a certain way to the world around us. Pronouns are one of the many ways we present ourselves. Respecting those pronouns is a large part of respecting each individual. Remember that no one can identify someone for them. But regardless of how we identify, we are all people who want love, deserve kindness, and need compassion.

IT’S GREAT TO GIVE Edited by John M. Hayden Content by Our Fund

T

he popular phrase “give 'til it hurts” leaves out an important part: it hurts so good! That was the feeling recently when the Our Fund Foundation doled out tens of thousands of dollars to local causes. South Florida's only LGBT community foundation raises money with the sole purpose of giving it away. And give it away they did! For the Spring they raised $120,500 and didn't shy away from spreading the wealth. The grants help deserving non-profit organizations that proposed unique ideas, projects and programs that advance lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues in Broward, MiamiDade and Palm Beach counties. "Our Fund Foundation is extremely thankful for the generosity from our donor advised fund holders which help us support these remarkable organizations that benefit the LGBT community in so many diverse ways," said David Jobin, president and CEO, Our Fund Foundation. "They truly inspire responsible giving and allow us to actively secure a thriving future for the LGBT community for generations to come."

Our Fund and a gift from the Josephine S. Leiser Foundation as well as other donors. Our Fund Foundation has been around almost a decade and is one of the top LGBT foundations in the country. It raises millions of dollars every year with the sole goal of empowering the community through non-profits not just today, but for generations to come. Their website says the "Our Fund Foundation promotes a culture of responsible philanthropy by uniting donors with organizations supporting the LGBT community to make South Florida the most livable community in the country for LGBT people. Our Fund Foundation exists to support a sustainably livable community for all South Floridians by promoting and increasing responsible philanthropy directed at agencies advancing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues in Broward, MiamiDade and Palm Beach Counties."

The money helps causes as diverse as the community itself. From young to seniors, arts and culture to social justice, the money will touch nearly every facet of life in South Florida. Some groups you probably know, like the Gay Men's Chorus of South Florida and Latinos Salud. Others you may not know by name but you recognize their work, like YES Institute and MAVEN. In all, 22 non-profits won grants. They all work really hard on tight budgets and are thrilled to get a boost from the Our Fund Foundation.

This time around The Museum of Discovery and Science got $10,000 for LGBT+ foster/ adoptive family outreach while the Miami Bridge Youth and Family Services got $2,500 for The LGBTQ Youth and Family Support Program. The TransInclusive Group got funding for their Empowerment Program. And our flourishing arts community will flourish even more thanks to the Our Fund Foundation. Pride Fort Lauderdale got $1,000 for Caribbean Pride to improve and expand the scope and reach of the Caribbean Pride Festival, while Stonewall has $10,000 for Community Space: An LGBTQ Community Collaboration, which will help support an LGBT community space.

Our Fund Foundation's Spring 2019 grants are the results of hard work and contributions by many people, and the organizers want to especially thank the generous support of the Salah Fund at Our Fund, the John C. Graves Fund at Our Fund, Tuesday's Angel's Fund at

The work goes on and the plan is to do more grants later this year. But to keep helping the community, they need the help of the community. To learn more about Our Fund Foundation, check out their website, www.Our-Fund.org.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE YOU MAKE ANY DEED CHANGES

W

e often hear from property owners, all well-intentioned, who lost or seriously compromised their valuable exemptions or Save Our Homes (SOH) protection when they made "do-it-yourself" changes to a deed. While we always recommend you seek professional advice from a qualified attorney when making title changes, there is information on the various deed types available on our website at www.BCPA.net/Deeds.asp. This information will help you better understand the key differences between the most common forms of home ownership if you still decide to risk making these changes on your own. Keep in mind these are very simplified explanations of some rather complicated legal issues. Your deed is a document or written legal instrument which, when executed and delivered, conveys an interest in or legal title to a property. Deed recording is the process of registering a transfer of real property with the Broward County Records, Taxes, and Treasury Division. Should you decide to prepare your own deed, it is important to ensure you have the full and complete legal description. The full legal description for your property can be found on your original recorded deed. The legal description on our website is typically an abbreviated version so you will want to confirm you have the complete legal description so we can process the deed once it has been

recorded in County Records and forwarded to our office to update the property record. Many important documents, including your deed, are already available for free online at Broward County’s Records, Taxes, and Treasury Division’s website. Older deeds prior to 1977 and recorded deeds utilizing social security numbers must be ordered in person or by written request. Broward County Records can be reached at www.Broward.org.Records or (954) 831-4000. To search County Records, simply go online to OfficialRecords.Broward.org/AcclaimWeb and enter the public search field. Search by the name of the homeowner and you will be shown applicable property data enabling you to retrieve and print a copy of the recorded deed. You can also find this information on our website at www.BCPA.net by simply clicking on the "Book Number" located under the "Sales History" chart on the property record page to link to the deed information. If my office can ever be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at (954) 357-6904 or by email at MartyKiar@BCPA.net. Take care, Marty Kiar, CFA

Drive down the turnpike or US 441 in Hollywood, and you’ll see a gigantic guitar rising up to dominate the skyline. The gleaming building is the centerpiece of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino’s $1.5 billion dollar expansion. But with 6,500 seats, the new Hard Rock Live is small enough that there’s not a bad seat in the house, but big enough that you still feel like you’re at a party to remember. A ton of work is going into making sure the sound is as hot as the South Florida sun. When all the changes are unveiled at the October grand opening, Adam Levine and Maroon 5 will be the first to get the party started! At night there’s no need to find at party, let the party come to you! In addition to a day club, the Hard Rock will have a nightclub to keep the fun going. With premium drinks and great music, you’ll never notice when today turns into tomorrow. And, of course, it wouldn’t be the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino without the casino! The new poker room will have 45 tables, as well as an eight-table semi-private area. 50 MILES WITH SMILES By Eric Noel Roman

B

utterflies, they kept me awake while driving to my friend's house. I walk in the door, after an hour and a half on the road, to a commotion of people packing hydration bags, cooking dinner, and shouting over each other’s laughter. I join in the happy chaos, deep down I get more nervous. Tomorrow morning I run the longest race I have ever run. Up to this point thirty two miles has been the pinnacle of my distance. In just a few hours I will shatter that by a long shot. Once dinner was over and my supply bucket was filled, I quickly made my way to my sleeping arrangements and fell right asleep.

Just a few hours later, I awake to gear up. I throw on my comfy running clothes and trail shoes. Breakfast is quick oatmeal and left over coffee. The drive to the race venue grew more tense as the distance shortened from me to the start line. Welcome back the butterflies. "Ready, set, go!" shouted a race director. The beginning of a life changing event just occurred. Fifty miles until the finish line. I was running for the next, minimum, fifteen hours. As the race began I was confident, I was solid, and my pace was quick. The first aid stations I passed were quick stops of smiles, great energy, and incredible snacks. Followed next by the first quarter stop with my wellprepared bucket. After a quick stop to restock my nutrition and hydration pack, I set out to loop back through The Dunes of Hell. Yes, this was a race run on sand, “Down to Run,” hosted at Jonathan Dickinson Park, an ultra marathon weekend. The return loop to the start/finish line was equally fun. That was also the midpoint of the course. As the day progressed on, my second

timeout thoughts crept in. I questioned each step. I did not let my will cave, I smiled listened to my music and danced the miles away. The heat was treacherous, and extremely unforgiving, the sand dunes seemed never ending. More and more the thoughts began to echo, "You will not finish fifty miles." I kept singing. At this point, I was well into the second loop approaching the final aid station before the turn around. About forty two miles into the race. "Thirteen more to go," I hear randomly. Off to the Dunes of Hell. The heat took its toll. The return felt blissful. I fought all that was negative and maintained a positive attitude. My feeling of relaxation, meditation, and confidence is what allowed me to push through the race with no fear of failure. I never let the thoughts of failing bring down my energy. Each time you set out on your journey, remember you will be beaten up. Keep in mind attitude helps keep energy up. Stay happy and look forward to that finish line. The reward is worth it.

GIMME SOME SUGAR By Michael Ferrara

T

his month I want to share an amazing hair removal alternative with you. It’s called, sugaring!

Sugaring, sugar waxing or Persian waxing is a method of hair removal that has been in use since 1900 BC. Historically, sugar was confined to the regions surrounding Persia until the first millennium AD. It gets even better! Sugaring is all natural, organic, and non toxic! There are three ingredients: sugar, lemon, and water. That’s it. It’s so natural in fact, you can actually eat it. It has a cotton candy consistency but the lemon gives it a nice citrus flavor. But I’m not trying to get you to eat more sugar, but if you are still waxing or shaving your backs, legs, or as the guys over at Hush Spa & Barber say, “Back, sack, and crack,” then you need to try this out now! Shaving leaves you smooth for a short time before you’re all prickly. Waxing either burns or leaves you with red blotchy and traumatized skin that can’t be exposed to the sun for a few days. Sugaring lasts a long time like waxing, and causes far less trauma to your skin so you can look your best and enjoy your day shirtless or not.

many satisfied clients who continually come back monthly to get their sugar on. Pricing starts at $60 for a 30 minute session. You can book this service and any others you’d like on their website www.HushFl.com or by calling (954) 873-3120.

The main difference between waxing and sugaring is the direction of application, and the immediate result of smooth healthy looking skin! Right on Wilton Drive, the guys at Hush Spa & Barber have been spreading their sugaring skills all over our community with

Hush Spa & Barber is the only full service day spa for men in Wilton Manors. It’s been operating for three years this September along with their first location Hush Manhattan which has been in business for 8 years. Check out Hush on the Drive - keep it Hush!

After Care

Harold Roberts, Hush’s full time esthetician recommends exfoliating your entire body every three days or so to prevent ingrown hairs from forming. “Other than that, you’re good to go sweetheart,” Harold tells a client as they leave the spa after an hour long sugaring session. “I love making guys feel comfortable in our environment and providing a service that is not too common yet has a remarkable result that our clients love.”

AN INTERVIEW WITH MATT BOMER, STAR OF PAPI CHULO By Gregg Shapiro

I

n Papi Chulo (Treasure), written and directed by John Butler (Handsome Devil), gay actor Matt Bomer plays Sean, a TV weatherman who has an onscreen breakdown. His sensitive, but ratings obsessed boss Ash (Wendi McLendon-Covey) gives him a leave of absence. Unfortunately, the recently single Sean doesn’t know what to do with the time. He repeatedly calls Carlos, his ex, and gets his voice mail. When he notices a section of his deck needs painting, he hires migrant worker Ernesto (Alejandro Patiño). But Sean is so lonely and lacking companionship that he loses sight of boundaries. He ends up attempting to socialize with Ernesto, in spite of the language barrier and the fact that Ernesto is a straight, married man. What initially starts out as a sweet and funny comedy takes an unexpectedly dramatic turn, but by then viewers will have grown so fond of this unlikely buddy movie duo that they will gladly go where the characters lead. Bomer, who shines as Sean, was good enough to answer a few questions about the movie and some of his other projects.

114 | OutClique.com

Gregg Shapiro: Matt, what was it about Sean that made you want to portray him in the movie Papi Chulo? Matt Bomer: There are a dozen adjectives you could list before you even mention the fact that Sean is gay. There’s something inherently comedic and tragic about the contradictions in Sean. The fact that he’s going through this terrible trauma and pain that he’s not willing to acknowledge. The public persona that he affects and how he tries to bury it and avoid it and subdue it were all really playable to me.

GS

Sean talks to Ernesto about his fears and then asks him “What are you scared of?” and Ernesto answers in Spanish, “Immigration.” Can you please say something about the timeliness of the immigrant subject matter in the age of Trump?

MB

I think this movie was written before Trump was even elected. Just the fact that we live in such divisive times. It’s a story of two very different men at very

different places in their lives from very different worlds who come together because of their shared humanity. They form a great and true friendship. I think it became more politically relevant as . . . obviously, it’s hard to make an apolitical film these days. It became more relevant as it went along.

GS

Sean hires Ernesto, a migrant worker who speaks very little English, to paint the deck at his house. Part of the experience of the movie is watching them attempt to communicate. How is your Spanish?

MB

I think you see it all on film. A lot of that was improvised. I would go through the script and try to figure out what I could try to say in Spanish at any given point. I’d run it by John (Butler). Even though he is a writer/director, he’s not overly precious about anything. He’s willing to improvise and add things in that bring authenticity to a scene. We were fortunate enough to shoot it sequentially for the most part, with a few exceptions. (Actor) Alejandro (Patiño, who plays Ernesto) and I were getting to know each other as our characters were and a lot of the stuff in the car, on top of the wonderful dialogue that John had written, was improv.

GS

At one point, Sean says he’s “completely opposed to nature,” which made me think of the quote by the late gay humorist and writer David Rakoff, “If you want something green, order the salad.”

MB

[Laughs]

GS MB

How do you personally feel about nature and the outdoors?

Oh, my gosh! I love it! I need it! It’s a necessity in my life. I would argue that it’s another example of Sean being completely out of touch with himself because I think someone like him needs to be outside. Needs to be communing with nature. For me, it’s incredibly relaxing, especially living in a big city. Even in New York, I try to get down to the West Side Highway and walk and exercise there, just to get a sense of the outdoors, even in a city like Manhattan.

GS

Sean takes a lot of spills and pratfalls and gets kind of bloodied. What was that aspect of the character like for you?

MB

I think he’s nosediving towards rock bottom. A big part of that is his physical journey. I think I did everything except for the one fall at the quinceanera, when he crashes the party drunk that they would not let me do because it was a little riskier and this was not the kind of movie that had the budget to shut down if I injured myself. If I injured myself, the movie was over basically [laughs]. I love that about indie filmmaking. There’s something really renegade about it. Also, the stakes are sort of high in that regard. You get what you can get in the time you get. There’s nobody who’s going to sweep in and save the day and buy you an extra.

MORE THAN 50 SHADES

AN INTERVIEW WITH DESIGNER SEBASTIAN GREY By Gregg Shapiro

T

he road to Bravo’s Project Runway hasn't been as glamorous as you might think for fan favorite contestant Sebastian Grey. He gave up a career in Colombia and arrived in the United States where he worked as a housekeeper in a hotel. Something good did come of that; it’s where he met his husband Matthew. Additionally, he applied to compete on Project Runway, where his sewing skills, solid work ethic and talent landed him a spot in the final four. Fort Lauderdale resident Grey was kind enough to answer a few questions in advance of the Season 17 finale.

Gregg Shapiro: Sebastian, when did you first become interested in fashion? Sebastian Grey: I first became interested in fashion when I was probably 14. I was in a professional ballet school. I graduated as a professional ballet dancer. When I was in school, I was watching how they produced the outfits for the plays, how they communicated so many things with the outfits. I thought it was super cool. Maybe this could be my new career. I was always going to the factory where they were producing the costumes and I was always helping them, especially with the tutus. [I was] learning how they kept everything in place. That was my first introduction to fashion and how to make clothes.

GS

Were you a fan of Project Runway before you became one of the contestants?

SG

I was not a crazy fan. I watched it a couple of times in Colombia with my mom. Sometimes she’d say, “You are going

118 | OutClique.com

Photo credit: Bravo Media Photographer: Barbara Nitke

to be on there!” I’d say, “Oh, mom. That’s the United States. We live in Colombia. That’s never going to happen!” And here I am! Final four!

GS SG

Your mom is a big supporter of yours?

GS SG

What does it mean to you to be on Project Runway?

She always supported my career. My dad, too. They were always super supportive, even with being gay. They were super-open with everything. It was never an issue for them.

It was one of the craziest experiences. It’s amazing! I guess this year the platform evolved towards more real fashion. Because they have the CFDA, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and they are building real designers. This year, for me, they were more concerned with knowing more about the designer and being able to showcase that to the world.

GS

How much do you think your strong sewing skills contributed to your success on Project Runway?

SG

I think that’s very important, especially for Project Runway. We have to be able to do everything. Having good sewing skills is going to help because you’ll be able to finish everything quicker and if something goes wrong, you can change it faster.

GS SG

And it will look better, it will look finished.

Yes, because they are judging you based on that. How it looks, how it’s finished, the design, construction, and idea.

GS

This season of Project Runway featured contestants with big personalities, such as Hester and Kovid. As someone who is quieter and more reserved, what do you think of the way everyone was represented?

SG

I think you learn to behave yourself. Yes, I’m a little crazy sometimes, but when it comes to my work, I’m extremely focused.

GS

That’s admirable, because sometimes the bigger personalities get more attention.

SG

For me, it was not about the personality. It’s about your work. Let that speak for you and make the noise.

GS SG

What do you think of Christian Siriano as the Project Runway mentor?

It was super cool having him as a mentor. He always guided me in the right direction. He always had the right advice. And he was part of the show, so he knows exactly what the judges are looking for. He built a relationship with these people through all these years, so he already knows who they are in terms of their work aesthetics. Seeing

him and how much success he’s having, [I think], “That can be me! He was part of this.” It’s very inspiring and it makes you want to keep going.

GS SG

What do you think of Christian as a designer?

GS SG GS

He designed the piece for Billy Porter.

SG GS SG

Being close to the ocean. That’s the best thing.

I think his work is really amazing. The way that he’s pushing the boundaries with gender equality and making fashion more inclusive for all kinds of shapes and genders.

Yes, the tuxedo gown.

You and your husband Matthew live in Fort Lauderdale. What do you like best about living here?

How did you and your husband meet?

When I was working at a hotel as a housekeeper. One of the housekeepers said, “I have a friend I want to introduce to you.” We started talking and one day we went on a date and we never separated from that date.

GS

That’s wonderful! We’re speaking before the final episode of this season of Project Runway airs on Bravo. What would it mean to you to be the winner of season 17 of Project Runway?

SG

If I’m the lucky one, it would prove to me that I have what it takes to start building my dreams and my brand. To be able to achieve all I want in life.

NEW YORK COMEDY CLUB CIRCUIT COMES TO WILTON THEATER FACTORY

R

onnie Larsen, known for his out of the box shows, brings us another fun and engaging night with Totally Naked Comedy Tour! This isn’t your usual night home alone with the remote. Ronnie and gang promise to serve up a hilarious evening of jokes, laughs, and even some “funny bones.” So, grab a date, the boyfriend, your neighbor, or even by yourself (you might meet that special someone), and come out for a night of laughter and fun. Totally Naked Comedy Tour runs June 27 July 28, 2019 at the Wilton Theater Factory. Get your tickets at www.RonnieLarsen.com OutClique: The big, obvious question. Do they really get naked on stage? That’s what we are all wanting to know? Ronnie Larsen: Comedy is all about bearing yourself emotionally on the stage. These comics will be as bare as they can be! Are they going to be naked? I’d love to just tease that and say you have to come see, but that wouldn’t be fair would it? Those who have seen my shows know I have no issues with nudity at all, and I believe in honest presentation so you should expect naked stand-up comics!

OCQ RL

Tell us about the comedians you have coming.

There are a number of comics from all over the United States. We are varying the comics each weekend so that we have a great menu of different people for all tastes. And this allows people to see multiple comics

through the five week run. We looked for a wide variety of people to make sure everyone’s taste can be addressed.

OCQ RL

How did you convince them to be part of a naked comedy show?

Comics love to perform. It’s easy to get them in front of a microphone! The nude part was a discussion but honestly this is a more mainstream idea than you would think. Nudity is becoming more accepted and comics can use that to break the ice with audiences.

OCQ

Your shows always push the limits and boundaries. What is your favorite part of this show?

RL

The whole idea is to entertain the audience with comedy - the nudity is just a sideshow! I want people to laugh, to have fun just as you would at a regular comedy club. We don’t have a local comedy club here so this makes a void that needs to be filled. Nudity is just my embellishment on standup!

OCQ RL

How is this show different than The Penis Talk Show?

Very different! The Naked Comedy Tour is stand-up created by the comic. The audience does not ask questions like in The Penis Talk Show. Naked Comedy Tour allows the audience to sit back and enjoy, be entertained, not to participate in the comedy itself. And there are different comics each weekend!

Totally Naked Comedy Tour runs June 27 - July 28, 2019 at the Wilton Theater Factory. Get your tickets at www.RonnieLarsen.com 134 | OutClique.com

VAMPIRE LESBIANS OF SODOM

N

ever a dull moment, Ronnie Larsen is an actor, director, playwright, and producer, that is now bringing Charles Busch’s Vampire Lesbians of Sodom to the Wilton Theatre Factory, July 5 - July 28, 2019. This campy comedy is the story of two vampiresses whose rivalry takes them on a journey over 2000 years. Some of their stops include biblical times, silent movie Hollywood of the 1920’s, modern day Las Vegas, and London’s mod scene of the ‘60’s. As these two blood suckers journey through time, be prepared to hold on tight for an evening of campy fun, hilarity, and a psychedelic journey with the immortal Vampire Lesbians of Sodom! Get your tickets at www.RonnieLarsen.com. OutClique talked to the show’s director, Jack G. Hyman, about the production. OutClique Magazine: Jack, what was your idea in bringing this show to the Wilton Theater Factory? Jack G Hyman: That was Ronnie Larsen’s wonderful idea plus it’s the 35th anniversary of the show. It needed to be seen for completely insane, campy, colorful, and totally fabulous entertainment!

OCQ

Tell us about the vampires. What makes their characters so

JGH

One simply was a vampire, the other had no choice. They

hilarious?

seem to go through 2000 years of time repeating the same old rivalries, sabotages, and petty resentments as they take on many different (and crazy) professions as their immortal lives continue on and on and on.

OCQ JGH

How do they travel through time?

They do not actually travel through time. They simply cannot die (at least not in the traditional sense) and, therefore, are destined to live forever as Vampires who still have primal needs. We see them at different times of their lives together as their paths cross again . . . and again . . . and again.

OCQ JGH

How do they end up in Vegas and what happens to them there?

Ha! I can’t tell you how they end up in Vegas without spoiling part of the plot - sorry. But it just might have something to do with those primal needs - just sayin’!

OCQ JGH

Do they finally resolve their conflict and how?

Ha! I can’t tell you if they finally resolve their conflict without spoiling part of the plot. - again, sorry! I will say that the more things change, the more they stay the same. I mean, after all, what are a couple of 2000 year old vampire lesbians to do?

Vampire Lesbians of Sodom is at the Wilton Theatre Factory, July 5 - July 28, 2019. For more information or tickets go to www.RonnieLarsen.com. 136 | OutClique.com
