The job market for new college graduates continues to show improvement, according to NACE’s current hiring index, which tracks anticipated hiring activity. The November 2010 hiring index shows college hiring at 127.7, up slightly from 126.4 in October 2010, but up significantly from November 2009, when the index stood at 87.2. (See Figures 1 and 2.)

majority of poll respondents have reported such plans since NACE initiated the poll in October 2009. NACE’s monthly poll also gauges the level of activity employers engage in on campus to recruit new college graduates for their organizations. The recruiting activity index for November stands at 122.3, up from 117.7 in October 2010, and up significantly from 89.9 in November 2009. Still, the poll reflects intentions and is not a guarantee, as most of the participating employers expect to reassess their hiring needs on a quarterly basis—and some more frequently. NACE’s next college hiring and recruiting activity poll is being conducted December 1 - 31. Results will be reported in early January. Figure 1: NACE Index November 2010 vs. October 2010
