THE GIFT OF HEALTH: CONCIERGE MEDICINE FOR A STRESS-FREE HOLIDAY SEASON

This season, peace of mind is the ultimate gift. With TCCM, you’re not just another patient—You’re part of our healthcare family. At TCCM, we create individualized wellness plans that help you manage stress, keep up with healthy habits, and avoid those pesky seasonal illnesses. With us by your side, you’ll be able to focus on enjoying the season—without needing to recover from it.

TCCM provides inclusive, elite care that ensures your health is always protected. Our commitment to accessible, quality care makes concierge medicine not a luxury, but a vital resource.

So this holiday season, give the gift that keeps on giving: personalized healthcare. With TCCM, your health is our priority—so you can focus on the real challenges, like getting through family dinners without talking politics.

Tis the season to be judged by your actions for the year! Were you naughty or nice? If you said both, naughty because you lived your best sex-positive life, and nice because you took social justice action and gave back, then this is the issue for you.

We’re celebrating the naughty side of the holidays with our glorious gift guide, as well as the nice side with some tamer presents and some ways to give back to the community. It’s been a long year, and we know money is tight for everyone, but in the spirit of the holidays, treat someone else … or even better, treat yourself!

And of course, no holiday issue would be complete without a San-

Whether you’ve been naughty, nice or a little of both, and whether you’re a scrooge or a ho ho ho for the holidays, we hope there’s something in these pages that catches your fancy.

Thanks for another amazing year, and see you all in 2025!

IT'S

Tis the season! In this time of holiday stress and gift giving, one of the most important things we can do is give back. As fun as it is to get presents, or to give them to our loved ones, it can be incredibly rewarding to give to charity as well. While there are many worthy causes to give to, we’d like to highlight a few groups suffering and in need this holiday season.

The first group we’d like to highlight are charities helping in occupied Palestine. If you are uninformed on the plight of the Palestinian people, there are many resources readily available. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began attacking Gaza on October 7, 2023, and has been relentlessly bombarding them since. This is not the first time Israel has launched such an attack, but it is one of the most brutal. At least 43,000 Gazans have died since October 2023, and over 101,000 injured, according to Al-Jazeera.

The United States does fund Israel and provide weapons, and it is imperative that we on the ground do as much as we can to both help Palestine, and call out the government officials sanctioning these weapons. Beyond donating, you can familiarize yourself with your senators’ policies and stances, and call or email them to urge them to support a ceasefire. Below are some donation resources that are helping on the ground, both well established and newer grass roots movements.

Another group in need are those in the United States affected by the floods in the Appalachians, and those on the coast affected by hurricane Helene. Helene was a category 4 hurricane when it hit the coast of Florida, but as it traveled inland, it stayed a category 2 hurricane, dumping historic amounts of rain over eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina. Places across western North Carolina received three day totals of rain over 20 inches, a once-in-1,000 year occurrence (meaning that it has a 0.1 chance of happening any given year, according to Scientific American). Some places you can donate to help are listed below.

THE PALESTINE CHILDREN'S RELIEF FUND has been doing incredible work. Founded in 1991 in the U.S., they provide medical care to ill and injured Palestinian children in need. PCRF has also worked to establish two pediatric cancer departments in Palestine. Their vision is to secure a world where Middle Eastern children “have access to quality medical care, humanitarian aid, and specialized surgical procedures.” Currently their biggest campaigns are their Gaza Relief and Recovery and providing assistance in Lebanon as well.

MEDICAL AID FOR PALESTINIANS works with Palestinian communities and local organizations and partners to provide trusted aid and a wide range of both social and medical needs to the Palestinian people. Not only do they work to provide emergency services, but also look to ensure the services they can provide will be made long term. MAP was founded by Dr. Swee Chai Ang, who was working in a medical tent during the 1982 Lebanese attack on the Beirut refugee camp that housed unarmed Palestinians. When Dr. Ang was able to return to London, she

joined fellow medical professionals and humanitarians to establish MAP.

UNITED NATIONS WORKS AND RELIEF AGENCY is currently working in both Palestine and Lebanon. They are the largest direct service provider to Palestinians at the moment and provide medical relief, provision of cash assistance and basic food items, refugee education, health, economic growth, and gender equality. They work under the guidelines of their Sustainable Development Goals. These goals and their progress can be seen on their website, with detailed graphs and information. They are largely funded by the United Nations and its member states, as well as the European Union. Donations go towards Emergency Appeals, which assist with the displacement of Palestinian people, and provide food and water to them while they seek refuge.

OPERATION OLIVE BRANCH is a “grassroots nonprofit to amplify and support oppressed and occupied peoples on the quest to Collective Liberation,” according to their Instagram bio. They are best known for their spreadsheet, which has verified GoFundMe fundraisers for thousands of Gazan families. There have been people out there looking to use the Palestinian genocide as a means to scam, but Operation Olive Branch fully verifies each fundraiser so that you can be sure your money is going to help a real family in Gaza. The spreadsheet can be found in their Instagram bio, as well as with a simple Google search for Operation Olive Branch. Updates are provided on the spreadsheet, such as when goals are met and which campaigns need funds the most.

There are many ways to help those suffering in Palestine, and any donation amount is appreciated. Remember to keep track of where your officials stand on the genocide, and continue the pressure for a ceasefire. When aid is unable to enter Palestine, political pressure is the next best action. Give thanks for your own safety this holiday season, and consider helping a family across the world as they survive through the unimaginable.

CAJUN NAVY RELIEF is a south Louisiana-based volunteer group with a mission to help wherever and whenever they can. They do search and rescue, hurricane and disaster response, and debris clearing for those affected by natural disasters. They are looking for volunteers, supplies, donations, and monetary donations as well.

OPERATION AIRDROP is no longer operating for Hurricane Helene, but it was their largest project to date. Their mission is for volunteer pilots and an aircraft fleet to use their planes to drop off supplies in areas affected by natural disasters. They aim to service smaller, more remote areas that FEMA can’t reach immediately.

EAST TENNESSEE FOUNDATION provides a neighbor to neighbor disaster relief fund, specifically to help those affected

in eastern Tennessee. The donated funds are allocated to nonprofits and agencies currently providing aid. It was established in 1986 and has grown to support 25 counties via 500 charitable funds and eight supporting organizations. They help many causes across east Tennessee, aiming to better the community through education, grants, and donations. Currently, they are taking donations for distribution via their charities for Hurricane Helene.

APPALACHIAN VOICES is a nonprofit group working mainly towards creating clean energy and a more equitable ecosystem in the Appalachian region. They have offices in Boone, North Carolina; Charlottesville and Wise County, Virginia; and Knoxville, Tennessee. They use grassroots organizing and community engagement to change policy and do volunteer work. Currently, they are raising funds for central and southern Appalachia. Their website houses several different aid groups, and they have the option to donate goods such as food items and clothing. They do encourage those wanting to donate items to call the specific organization first and see what is needed, as many of them are no longer accepting general items.

MUTUAL AID DISASTER RELIEF is another grassroots relief network. They are community-based as well, relying on volunteer support, and as the name states, mutual aid. According to their website, they consist of “eco-activists, social justice activists, global justice activists, street medics, herbalists, permaculturists, mutual aid organizers, Black liberation organizers, community organizers, and others … actively organizing around supporting disaster survivors.” They do work across the country through many disasters, including the recent hurricanes, both Helene and Milton, and the flooding in the Appalachians. They take monetary donations and are looking for volunteers as well.

There are many organizations and causes to support during this time of year. Doing anything you can, even a small donation or a donation of your time to a local cause, is incredibly important. As the political tides change, mutual aid and grassroots organizing will have more of an impact on the lives of you and your neighbors. We wish you a fantastic holiday season and to be grateful for what you have, and give what you can where you can.

The queer community has always been a space of safety, exploration, and excitement. We love to dabble, to expand ourselves, and to have fun in the proverbial bedroom. Some of us even enjoy bringing several guests into said bedroom at once.

But for the nervous amongst us, approaching non-monogamy can be intimidating. Researching how to prepare and what to bring will help, but listicles can only calm the nerves so much. How does one who’s curious but inexperienced emotionally prepare for group sex?

Luckily for us, OFM columnist and LGBTQ+ therapist Jesse Proia gives advice for keeping true to oneself when getting freaky with four or more.

whaT'S FIRST?

Of course, bring condoms. Safe sex is number one. However, safe sex does not just mean being physically prepped. You have to be emotionally prepped as well.

Don't feel like you have to engage in group sex. Your sexuality and your sexual exploration are always your own, and you have no obligation to fulfill any perceived expectation. Consent from within is just as important as consent from without.

“Especially within queer spaces, there's a lot of expectations to have diversity within your sexual experience and a lot of pressure to break out of the norm,” Proia says. “I always like to help people explore, Is it something that I want, or is it something I(feel I) should do to prove my identity?”

Assuming you’ve made it this far, you know you want to have group sex. But asking yourself why you want to do it can get you in tune with what you are searching for in these encounters.

“I always like to think of it as a working inward out,” Proia continues, “and starting from the very basics. That usually starts with asking yourself, What is the intrinsic desire? What is the draw, the attraction to it? And is it coming from a place of want?”

What about group sex is appealing? Is it the subversive nature? The people involved? Is it a way to release anxiety? Or is it just for plain, simple, sexy fun? Realizing what you want out of the experience will give you the confidence to pursue your desires. You don’t need to know the answers immediately, but you want to be able to connect to yourself.

GROUP SEX

FIndInG PaRTnERS

Once you connect with yourself, it’s time to connect with others. So how do you find people to match your freak?

“If it's a topic that is not easily approached interpersonally; that's where apps like Feeld are really great,” Proia says. Feeld is a dating app for open-minded individuals where you can link with up to five people in one chat. It also provides extensive LGBTQ+ label options to find the people you want to meet with.

“Also searching for different resources outside of your social network. Even just Google searching for a dungeon or a play space, they're there, and you can find them quite easily.”

These spaces can be quite intimidating, with their unfamiliar environments and dynamics. New experiences are already emotionally overwhelming. Now, add to that the tension, release, and vulnerability sex often requires. However, just because it’s nerve-wracking doesn’t mean it’s off the table.

Proia calls it growing your edge. It's where exploration meets your comfort zone. “It’s that space where it’s an approachable level of anxiety that feels growth promoting without pushing yourself too far and potentially having a traumatizing experience.”

TyPES OF GROUP SEX

To meet that edge, you do not have to immediately jump into a sex dungeon (unless you want to, of course). Group sex does not just mean a classic orgy. In the age of the internet, you have innumerable options to choose from.

If meeting in person isn’t your thing, or you’re still growing your edge, try sexting or video sex. “(Sex) could be working with photo share or video sex, or group video sex,” Proia says. “What feels approachable and within your means?” It is all about what feels safe and sane for you.

If you do all meet in person, you don’t have to be all on top of each other. “Set limits of where you want to be touched, if at all,” Proia says. Mutual masturbation or voyeurism are completely valid forms of group sex, it only matters that all parties feel comfortable.

whEn yOU' RE In IT

As with all relationships, whether they last an hour or a lifetime, communication is key. Whatever type of group sex you engage with, it is important to lay out your boundaries and practice continued consent. “Lay out values and boundaries,” Proia says. “What is on the table, what is not.” Communicating expectations and fears will

get you far. It allows you to not only show your enthusiasm, but also what may be a no-go for you. It can even demonstrate to your partners what reassurance you might need in case there is something your nervous about in the experience.

And how will you and your partners maneuver the values and boundaries of everyone within the experience?

“There is this concept about radical consent,” Proia says. “It’s the idea of always checking in. Consent is an ongoing and active process. It’s a dialogue in sex. When you practice it, sex gets really good. Then you communicate openly throughout it, and it allows you to keep that safe space.”

When it comes to group sex, so long as you and your partners are excited and have a dialogue, there is no wrong way to do it. With all the awkwardness sex can bring, it also brings joy, vulnerability, and release. And while there is more to say about this topic, as long as you take care of yourself, you have the basics down.

AWAKENING

Founded in 2018 on “Trust, Respect, and Orgasms,” by Tory Johnson and Rose Kalasz, Awakening is a boutique bringing new energy to the sex shop game.

“… There just was almost nothing when we opened in 2018 that felt safe or that had products specifically for queer people,” says co-owner Rose Kalasz. “I still hear all the time people telling me that they've never felt safe in a sex shop until they came to ours.”

Which is not surprising, considering

the ways that porn and sex industries have historically fetishized queer and trans people. Despite being a huge part of the market for sex toys, brick-and-mortar stores continue to sell exploitative queer porn and gender their products. At the least, the closed exteriors of traditional sex shops, while they offer privacy, make sex shops feel clandestine.

In contrast, Awakening’s “sex boutique” is a wide-open space tucked between a vintage store and Sweet Action Ice Cream near 1st street on South Broadway. Awakening is one of a “short list” of smaller boutique sex shops with both health education and radical pleasure at

their center. Kalasz mentioned stores like Self Serve in Albuquerque and Dynamo in New Orleans, both of which opened in the early 2010’s. Suddenly, there was a hunger for a “feminist, queer-positive sex shop” in the Queen City.

“(Johnson’s) mom actually … mentioned that we’d be good at it,” Kalasz says. “We just kind of laughed about that at first.”

One way Awakening centers community is selling affirming products like gaffs, packers, tuck kits, and harnesses—affirming products which used to be available only from discreet sellers online.

“When we first started carrying that stuff, probably in 2019 … I couldn’t even find it, like, it took me months to find where I could get that stuff to sell it,” says Kalasz. “There’s something to getting to go touch what you’re going to buy … especially with gender-affirming apparel and products.”

Awakening opened just a year before adri-

enne maree brown’s anthology Pleasure Activism was published. The cozy interior of the store, with books (including maree brown’s) and art positioned right next to vibrators and cock rings feels directly inspired by radical pleasure politics.

“We call ourselves a sex shop and a community resource because we really do try as hard as we can to have products and workshops and an environment that just feels easy and welcoming to be in,” Kalasz says.

Brown's book is a collection of essays which radically challenge conventional attitudes toward pleasure, a book which teaches “how embracing what brings us joy is central in organizing against oppression,” according to Colorlines.

In addition to toys, apparel, and books Awakening also sells art entirely from small, often local artists. I once found a prized “Book Slut” sticker in the constantly rotating options. Some of the stickers

are more pleasure-oriented, not specifically related to sex, making this sex shop actually feel refreshingly aceand aro-affirming.

“We try to have a little something for everyone. You can buy a gift for your partner; you can buy a gift for your best friend; you can buy a gift for your mom,” Kalasz says.

The store carries a more “curated collection” with both big-ticket items and small, unintimidating products. Their selection of cash register impulse buys includes stickers and pins next to keychain-size cocks and vibrators. But the specific selection, and the fact that Kalasz and Johnson still work the shops themselves, mean that there is always someone safe to answer questions.

“You’re not just walking in blind … We try really hard to make sure we are there for people in a way that we are there for people in

a way that (conventional sex shops) are not,” Kalsz says.

Awakening has one location on Broadway near first street and another in Fort Collins near the Armstrong Hotel in Old Town. Their cozy, boutique stores create a welcoming and un-intimidating environment for everyone from your rope bunny roommate to shy asexual trans girls. Remember to shop local, and keep them in mind for your pleasure buys this holiday season.

“Shop local for the holidays because it does make such a huge difference for little neighborhoods like Baker … and it changes our lives when people shop for the holidays with us,” Kalsz says.
