Selden townhouses

Mr. Steven Brown, Can this information be submitted to George Wallace, City of Hampton Mayor? I’m writing with a heavy heart as our community is going to the dogs. In that we are experiencing complete disorder which has set a frame of mind, for those residents now wanting to sell their homes at Selden Townhouse located on Doolittle Road and Parkway Drive, Hampton. It appears to be an influx of undesirable individuals infiltrating our community and committing crime at will. In our complex we have had at least 10 break-ins in isolated areas of the development it seems to be random acts. As most folks who live here are over fifty years old and older as in our case. As to the investigations that have occurred they have apprehended at least one of the suspects, but I would assume he is out on bail by now or received a slap on the hand sentencing, as the time doesn't fit the crime. After each event of break-ins we have a few days of police activity on the site as some sort of deterrent, and the appearance of an empty police vehicle to further instill a deterrent which isn’t working as soon as they are gone, all the mayhem starts up again. We all here at Selden Townhouses are aware of the demolishing of sites on Pembroke Avenue, causing those residents to journey to nearby complexes for living space, that maybe good for them but we feel the onslaught from Newport News and other surrounding areas is causing and developing a criminal problem for our neighbors and our community.

Problems being seen: 1. We have individuals hanging at the Bus terminal on the corner of Pembroke and King Street which reminds me of New York City, Port Authority which is a haven for crime. 2. And the crowds are moving all day from the terminal to the store on the opposite side of the corner of Pembroke Avenue and King Street. 3. Once down the line we have had numerous individuals waiting for the Tobacco store to open up, police have been in and out of this place for reasons we have no idea. 4. Now we have the Store in the King Street shopping mall on the corner of Doolittle Road who is selling various items. But some weeks ago there was a long line of individuals that most folks will not allow in their homes standing their waiting for something as if there was some bargain about to start. 5. And just the other day your sister’s home was broken into taking numerous items. we here in Selden Townhouses are concern about our future and our property, relating to our property value going down because when the word gets out no one will want to purchase this property unless the city has another idea to redevelop it in the near future. 6. Also in the development adjacent to our home Langley Apartment someone is presiding there who appears to want to fire off his gun shooting into the air near the back of the complex and nothing has been done about it, this should be the responsibility of the Langley Apartment establishment, to maintain proper rules to be followed by the residents. As we have an available shooting range on Mercury Blvd for anyone who wishes to fire off their hand gun.

7. Some years ago we had an onsite police unit in the Langley Apartments and across Mercury Blvd shopping center this all have been closed down, so now all we have is the appearance of police officer patrolling the area which appears to be somewhat frequent but once they are out of sight the crime wave starts.
