Newsletter #02 ‘Future Morwell’ is about taking steps to create a brighter future for our town and our region. This State Government funded project is being led by Latrobe City Council, RMIT University and community members. The project will deliver a series of targeted projects to reshape Morwell over the next three years and build a prosperous future. Future Morwell is about imagining together, talking together, working together and moving forward together.
Project 01: Future Morwell Revitalisation Plan Have Your Say - Phase 2 Project 01 will produce a town wide planning framework that provides a guide for everyone in Morwell to ensure that we are developing and building our town in the best possible way. It will identify what we can do now, and over the years to come, to stabilise and improve the town and its neighbourhoods.

PROJECTS
We are excited to announce a recurring series of open house events. Drop in to Re-Activate HQ to learn more about the project and get involved. Have Your Say Part 2 is an opportunity for the community to learn more about the developed plans and provide feedback and input. These open houses are scheduled to coincide with the next two 50 miles Farmers’ Markets and will be held at Re-Activate HQ, 226 Commercial Road, Morwell. If you would like to receive information about upcoming events and the progress of the Future Morwell Project join the growing community at http://futuremorwell. nationbuilder.com/join. For the Morwell revitalisation plan to achieve its aims, a broad cross section of our community will need to work together to implement the actions of the Strategic Framework. We are calling for action from community groups and private and public agencies, asking you to align your missions with Future Morwell.

Open House Series (ongoing consultation) To inform the community about the plans developed for Stage 2. This is an opportunity for the community to learn more and have their say.
Future Open Houses November Open House Saturday 14 November, 2015; 9am - 1pm Re-Activate HQ 226 Commercial Rd, Morwell December Open House Saturday 12 December, 2015; 9am - 4pm Re-Activate HQ 226 Commercial Rd, Morwell
Open House - Town Walks On October 10th, we hosted an event open to all community members to become part of guided walks around the Morwell CBD. The aim was to walk around town, stopping at important venues where participants were asked to offer personal reflections and insights relevant to that location. Each point was interactive and allowed you to contribute your ideas to build upon our shared vision for Morwell’s future.
Past Consultations Open House 1 April 30 - May 4, 2015 Open House 19 September 2015
We value community feedback as discussing real issues and experiences allows us to develop a better understanding of challenges faced by community members.

www.futuremorwell.com www.facebook.com/futuremorwell Identity: Morwell the Town of Gardens A network of green spaces appears at street level, integrated into the streetscape. A map and walking tour could be developed to create a tourist attraction, bringing visitors and money into the region For Morwell residents these new green spaces would mean a significant increase in usable public space, which the town is currently lacking. This network of ‘parklets’ will establish Morwell as the ‘Town of Gardens’ and allow residents to use and enjoy improved outdoor spaces.

Future Morwell Aims
Morwell Gateway Establish Morwell as a Destination
www.futuremorwell.com www.facebook.com/futuremorwell Morwell Gateway The Commercial Road briquette rail bridge will be transformed into a living gateway. This historical artefact celebrates rich industrial heritage which the town of Morwell is built upon. The renewal of the bridge aims to give this significant piece of history - for Morwell and more broadly the Latrobe Valley - a new lease of life. The steel structure will be treated, painted and lit so that it can be enjoyed during the day and at night. The bridge will then become the lush green gateway to Morwell, ‘the town of gardens’ highlighting the garden concept at the entry point to the town. The line, which extends from the bridge, will become the rail trail network where residents can enjoy cycling and walking at a height that overlooks the southern wild orchid fields and Morwell’s neighbourhoods enhancing the recreational opportunities for both locals and visitors.
