On the ninth day of COP18, Outreach focuses on cities, urban governance and climate change. The edition opens with an article from UN-HABITAT, discussing the potential for cities to be both a cause of, and solution to, climate change. We hear about the climate-water-health nexus in megacities and how social dialogue, decent work and quality jobs should be incorporated into the UNFCCC process. In addition, there are articles on the impacts of Hurricane Sandy on New York and how city level cooperation and Information Communication Technology can facilitate sustainable urban governance and development. Finally, we get updates on the progress in the negotiations from our usual reflections and Ireland’s Environment Minister, who thinks a positive outcome is achievable in Doha.
