Black Owned Market Edmonton (BOM YEG) is a volunteer collective whose aim is to uplift, build and support Black entrepreneurs and creatives by providing physical spaces and virtual platforms to showcase their products and services.
On the surface, BOM YEG is a way to celebrate local vendors, but on a deeper level BOM YEG finds innovative ways to address the inequality gaps and systemic racism Black owners face when launching and sustaining their businesses. The initiatives the community sees are only a small part of what BOM YEG accomplishes in addition to community development, advocacy, marketing, stakeholder relations, business coaching and micro funding initiatives.
Founded in July 2020, BOM YEG has attracted 70+ vendors and 5,000+ community supporters. BOM YEG is passionate about supporting Black-owned businesses and provides safe and inclusive spaces for customers across Canada.
