Local Pharmacist Wins Pharmacist Of The Year

Clint Hopkins, of Pucci’s Pharmacy, here in Sacramento, has won this year’s title of Pharmacist of the Year, awarded by the California Pharmacist Association at their annual conference in Las Vegas, for his unwavering contribution to the profession.

Clint graduated from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center at Memphis with his Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2007. He has worked across the pharmacy industry including as a pharmacy manager for several chain stores, a hospital staff pharmacist, OR pharmacist, informatics pharmacist, pharmacogenomics consultant, and EHR consultant. After years of being on the road consulting, he found his true passion was in providing compassionate, culturally aware, community-based pharmacy care and he found independent pharmacy to be the best place to make his impact on the profession. He and his husband Joel Hockman relocated to Sacramento in 2016 to purchase Pucci’s Pharmacy from Tom and Linda Nelson, who had already set the stage for providing outstanding care to the LGBTQ+ community as strong allies to the community since the early days of the HIV epidemic.

Clint and Joel pride themselves on expanding healthcare access to those who are underserved in the LGBTQ+ community. Clint is an advocate for pharmacists across California and the nation to be practicing at the top of their license in their communities and to be recognized by payors for pharmacists’ contribution to the health and wellbeing of our communities.

During the COVID outbreak Clint and Joel were instrumental in providing up to the minute access to the new vacines as they became available. Also, when Monkey Pox recently threatened the LGBTQ+ community, in particular gay males, or men who have sex with other men, Clint and Joel again stepped up in a big way to get as many vacinated as possible, as quickly as possible.
