ture argument that I don’t think can be debated. A hundred years ago 99% of all orphanage babies in the U.S died with in their first seven months. Not from disease or infection but from a condition known as Marasmus, basically meaning a lack of touch. Senetra Busbee Senetra Busbee Born October 27th, Grew up in Myrtle Beach. “As a child growing up I always knew drawing was going to be a part of my life, it was inevitable to me, the feeling I got when my pencil would meet the paper was an intoxicating experience”. The first time she realized she held this gift was back in elementary school in art class when her art teacher would comment on my strange people like character drawings.” It wasn’t sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing, but to me it looked Dr. Seuss had graced my paper with his presents”. Busbees’ art work definitely didn’t look like the other kids drawings. Throughout middle school and high school Senetra would draw all day long until finally she went off to College (The Art Institute of Charlotte). “My love for art only grew through my time there”. In 2010 Senetra earned her degree in Interior design still plan to go back for Architectural design. Now a wonderful mother and Wife Sentra resides in Jacksonville, North Carolina Senetra continues to be Creative in more ways than one, by painting, and belly dancing.

mber Blount is a rapper who goes by Mrs. New Haven also known as Lady B. Born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut; she is the youngest niece of CT’s own notable Rapper, Writer, Entertainer, and Director Phil Blount. She started writing at the tender age of 7. Her influence was Lisa Left eye, the rapper in the female group TLC. Her journey as an artist began at age 10 when she started putting her writing to action, at only 12 years old she was feautred on the chorus of Phil B’s classic “War For Position” Now 22 years old, Lady B is the First Lady of No Gimmick Music Coalition (NGMC). She frequently performs in the New Haven area at Red Café, Chazmos, and the Legendary Toad’s Place to name a few. Although she is a hip hop artist her heart is for classic Old School music. Lady B’s plan for her music career doesn’t stop at just performing however, her goal is to write and produce for other artist as well. Another goal she wishes to achieve is having the honor of winning a Grammy Award. To conclude, Mrs. New Haven aspiration is to change today’s sound of music. To transform the outlook and perspective of what the world and youth dub Music. She wants to bring it back to basic; when music had meaning and purpose. In today’s music industry there is more focus on just rhyming and creating a new dance craze. However she wants her primary focus to be on lyrics and broadcasting good lyrical content or in a nut shell what she likes to label, “Real Music”. 22

Why do you do what you do? “I do what I do because it’s what I HAVE to do. Music is in me. It keeps me going. It’s my oxygen. Rapping is not something I choose to do, I was born to do it.”

23

Which artists most inspire you? “Left Eye, Queen Latifah, Monie Love, MC Lyte, Lauryn Hill and Missy Elliott inspire me most because they have raw talent, they’re true to their craft, but most of all they had no boundaries. Its hard being a female rapper in a predominately male industry but these ladies pulled it off. Whether you agreed with their rhymes or not you still Listened. Their voices was heard, and they didn’t have to become a sex symbol.”

clusive interview with

LADY B

How would you describe your style? “I would say my style is pretty straight forward. I get right to the point. There’s no beating around the bush, no sugarcoating rhymes, No Gimmicks.” What inspires you to continue going through the rough struggle of an up and coming artist? “Bringing Originality back to Hip Hop is what inspires me the most to continue this struggle. I don’t knock anyone for what they do, but the majority of songs nowadays are too commercial. There’s no soul on top of that beat.” What type of story would you say your music tells? “My music tells stories of Truth. Whether I lived through it or seen someone else live through it there’s always truth. I tell stories of reality, just everyday life. The good and the bad, lessons that were taught to me and lessons that I’ve learned.” What is it you dislike about the music industry? “What I dislike most about the music industry is that people tend to lose themselves, making millions becomes more of a focus and making change becomes a thing of the past. At the end of the day we all have to eat. Everyone has their reasons of why this and why that, but most Artists fail to realize just how important they can be. The moment you sell out, your voice is silenced.

silenced. Yeah, you may have a new single out on the radio but whats the message behind it?” What would you like to see different? “I would like to see Artists having more creative control with their music. No one can hear what YOU hear. You can’t make an Artist fit a song, the song should fit the Artist.” If you could work with any artist who would it be? Why? “If I could work with any Artist, it would be Missy Elliott. To me, Missy is a Mad Scientist. Her flow is very unique, very creative, and spontaneous. She has natural talent. She’s her own driving force of her progress over the years. She’s one of the few who can drop in and out and pick up where they left off and it’s like they never left in the first place.” What’s your favorite album of all time? “My favorite album of all time is Queen Latifah’s debut All Hail The Queen. The title speaks for itself.” Any shout outs? “Shout out to all my young ladies out there who breathe music. The dream is still alive. Never let someone tell you what you can’t do. Female MC’s before us have already proven what we CAN do, its up to us to keep changing minds.”

truly am a fan of music and hip hop in general. I love to see the underdog rise up and claim their rightful spot. When I hear certain Artist I can mostly tell you that I know if the potential is there to be a major league pro star quality emerging and we truly have that with Phil Blount. I can remember the first time I played Phil s’ mix-tape in my car. As soon as I heard the very first track I said to myself this guy is a major star. I asked my friend who had given it to me if he was signed and he said no. I was stunned, the cadence and the style which he carried showed me that he is ready for the “show”. Phil Blount like many moguls understands the industry, what it can and can’t do. But he doesn’t just rely on the music elite to point him in the right direction he does that squarely on his own. The last time I spoke to Phil prior to this article he was recording and still making hot videos to boot. Now a days Blount can be reached at the studio working with other hungry artist like himself. The No Gimmick Music Coalition which

Kashier, and Bella Broliq and the many others are highly skilled and not to be f**ked with. With the NGMC there’s raw endless talent coming from every corner and it’s not just from music side of it. Mr. Blount truly is the jack of all trades, while he is

a performer and songwriter, he is also a videographer, photographer and SELF TAUGHT Recording Engineer. I take my hat off to Phil Blount who features Connecticut’s up and coming prized plays a huge part in putting Connecticut back to gems in the rough like Sheemo & Cash, Cam the limelight. Sir your music, I must say, is a breath

of fresh air to me and I’m sure to the fans that support you and No Gimmick Music Coalition as well. I really hope the reader gets a chance to really see what kind of artist Mr. Blount is by reading his information and facts, get to know what Phil Blount about, what he stands for. There are not too many people that do what he does. It takes a uniquely gifted person to put all the pieces together to be a successful product in his own right. I recommend checking out his videos, and live studio sessions and take a look at how CTs’ Own Mr. New Haven Gives you REAL music With No Gimmicks. If you love music and you are a real hip hop head I want you to seek Phil Blount out and his movement No Gimmick Music Coalition and you tell me if he shouldn’t be on the radio as we speak 26

t n u o l B Ph i l Why do you do what you do? Love. Somehow After All This Time I Still Love Music Like I Did When I Was 11. What’s your life story? In A Nutshell, I’m The Bird Who Spread His Wings 15 Years Before He Actually Flew. I’m A Songwriter, Performer, SELF TAUGHT Recording Engineer & Videographer. What does No Gimmick Music Coalition represent? To put it as short as possible, I’ve always loved storytellers and hated liars. Sell your product to me in any creative way shape or form ( Analogies, all the like or as comparisons in the world) but the minute I find out I’m being lied to it changes things. Hence “No Gimmick”. The “Music” part is a no brainer. I’ve been writing since I was 11. The coalition part of it is because if I had to select a team of artists to represent my brand that is the type of artist you would have to be. I feel it takes a special skill to be able to form words that not only rhyme but make perfect sense and be truthful at the same time...”No Gimmick Music Coalition” Since 1978 my year of birth. How would you describe your style? Criticism Free. Meaning My Music Is To The Point. You’re Not Questioning Whether Your Being Lied to as You Listen. What inspires you to continue going through the rough struggle of an up and coming artist? Simple, Math... Now Do It with Me. 5 CD’s Sold A Day At $10 a Pop = $18,250. That’s better than McDonalds. If I Sell 15 Cd’s In a Day I Can Take the Next 2 Days off if I wanted to! I’d Struggle for that any day and that’s Only a Ground Level Grind. What type of story would you say your music tells? Let’s just say I Can Tell My Life through Angles Other’s Miss. And I Can Explain Every Emotion Without Feeling Less Of A Man After. 27

What is it you dislike the most about the music industry? The Mindset & True Intentions of the Actual Money-Machine behind It. What would you like to see different? PHIL BLOUNT In The Mix. Which artists most inspire you? I Might Sound Bias but CT Artists Are the Best I’ve ever heard. Besides That right now Jeezy. If you could work with any artist who would it be? Why? Right Now, Jeezy. I Have A Couple Motivational Bangers I Want Him On. What’s your favorite album of all time? My Favorite Rap Album Is Wu Syndicate’s SelfTitled Album. My Favorite Soul Album Is Bilal’s “First Born Second”, & R&B Is Carl Thomas “Emotional” We see NGMC is deep with extremely talented artist such as Chief Rhythm, BG Blake, and many others…who all is down with No Gimmick Music Coalition? Shout Out To My Whole Roster. Chief Rhythm Is The President Of No Gimmick. My Artists - BX DaBeast, Lady B, Sheemo & Cash, Cam Kashier, Cuzin’ Jay, BG Blake, Bella Broliq, Coke Kev & The Doberman Gang. My Faculty - Job Dunn {Promoter/Photographer}, Executive Chuck {Think-Tank}, DJ OOWop, QU Savage {MoneyMachine}, Eddie Knucks {Producer} & The Legendary DJ DooWop {Mentor} Is there anything else that you want to say to the world? Google Me & Press Play, I’ll Do The Rest... Any shout outs? Rah Digga, Capone {Cnn}, Ali Vegas, Craig G {Juice Crew}, Sadat X & Chaundon For The Features.... oday we live under the worst conditions known to man since its creation. Violence has firmly taken its place in history, it has marked its domain with such advertisements in Music, Movies and in Reality Television; but history does remind us that we have a long time before we as a race of people can truly, truly be at peace. Take Hitler and his Third Reich. They exterminated millions with the goal to be the dominant race and a world super power, and just like those before and after him failed to meet their goal. History also teaches us that it always repeats itself in some form or fashion. Today, believe it or not we are still in the hunt for peace and salvation. Wars, Famine, Rape and Murder are still top news on any station and on any given day including Sunday. That also holds true for other countries around the world. One country in particular Uganda, Africa sets the stage for one of the world’s most dangerous criminals wanted for war crimes to date against humanity. Who are we talking about? We are talking about none other than Joseph Kony and his army of war torn families. Kony is the leader of the Ugandan Lords’ Resistance Army (LRA), and has managed to steadily terrorize central Africans to maintain his power. Since 1986 Kony has abducted over 66,000 children; forcing the girls to become sex-slaves and the boys to fight in the LRA. Which he has done so for the past 26 years. His misuse of power and mind control over the masses with fear and Confusion often keeps the people at bay and has also landed Kony on the top of International Criminal Court’s most wanted list.

“In order for Kony to be arrested this year, the Ugandan military has to find him. In order for them to find him, they need the technology and training to find him in the vast jungle. That’s where the American advisors come in. But in order for the American advisors to be there, the US government has to deploy them. They’ve done that, but if the government doesn’t believe that the people care about arresting Kony, the mission will be canceled. In order for people to care, they have to know, and they will only know if Kony’s name is everywhere.” -Jason Russell of invisible children Inc. “Cover the Night” a vast event on April 20th, hundreds of thousands people will be placing posters and stickers in every city across America in seek to make Joseph Kony Famous and ultimately bring him to justice.
