Summer in Bellalago BY DOUG GILBERT, LCAM, CLUB MANAGER
W
ith the summer season underway, it’s time to make the trek to the outdoor pool and bask in some beautiful Florida sunshine! Summer brings a time for kids to relax. With that said, it’s important for all young people to keep active while school is out. Keeping your child active during the summer can be a challenge when their days do not involve a schedule, as school days do.
across. You can play for a while and then walk a different route home. There are endless possibilities to this game. 5. Think up some good summer projects, such as plant a vegetable garden, develop new skills with craft projects, or learn a foreign language (tapes are available at the library). Summer allows for many school skills to be forgotten, so as much as you can do to stimulate their continued learning, the better.
Summer Activities for Kids
It is very important to let kids have some time to just relax and be themselves during the summer - to putter around and enjoy their time off. But make sure you give your kids electronic-free time to use their imaginations, read, learn and also play with friends.
Here are some ways you can include fun activities in your child’s summer. 1. Check out your local library and/or bookstore for summer reading programs, free craft classes, etc. Our local library has something pretty much every day for kids. 2. Not only are swimming pools a cool place for kids to chill out on scorching days, it is an excellent way for them to build and tone muscles. When you swim, all your major muscles are called into action. It also has an aerobic effect, so their heart and lungs get a good workout too. 3. You can also have a good old fashioned water-balloon fight! Just remember to clean up the bursted balloons all over the ground because they can be a hazard to wildlife and curious toddlers. Encourage kids to clean up by offering a prize for the one who picks up the most bits of balloons. 4. Take the kids on a late afternoon walk when the summer heat isn’t as intense. As you know, the community is full of beautiful greenery and wildlife. During the walk you can play a game and see who can spot and name the different things you may come 2

Summer Safety With Summer temperatures skyrocketing, the most important thing we can do is watch out for each other. We encourage you to be safe during your outdoor activities. Make sure to drink water regularly and take breaks periodically when working or playing outside. Familiarize yourself with the signs of heat exhaustion – dizziness, fatigue, headache, and muscle cramps are the most common. Another summer safety reminder is that we’re well into hurricane season. Fortunately, we haven’t seen many storms, but we’ve had some severe thunderstorms. During these small storms, we may experience flash flooding and winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour. These storms can come up quickly and pose a threat to drivers on the road and swimmers at any of the pools. When planning outdoor activities, be aware of the potential weather conditions that day and make a plan to handle any dangerous weather. Have fun and enjoy all that summer has to offer, but remember - safety first.
Community Reminders Here are some important things to remember when visiting the Amenity Centers this summer; the following will be monitored and enforced by the Lifestyles Team. Please be respectful of the staff. • Bellalago issued ID Badges are required when visiting the Amenity Centers. • When in effect, wristbands must be worn and visible when in the pool and pool area. • Outside alcohol/beer and glass bottles as well as smoking is not permitted. • Cooler sizes may not exceed 12”x12” and may be checked. • Footballs, soccer balls and anything that can be thrown are not permitted in the pools. These items can injure someone if they are hit with them. • If you are working out and would like to enjoy the pool or spa afterward, please rinse off before entering the pools. • Proper bathing attire must be worn. Lifestyle staff members are responsible for monitoring both inside and outside of the amenity centers, as well as performing desk duties. The Lifestyle Team does their best to maintain all areas; however, if you see someone misbehaving or not following club rules, please notify a staff member as soon as possible and we will address it. If you have guests enjoying the pools (or clubhouse) please see that they first check in at the front desk with a guest pass and receive a wristband (weekends included). Food and beverages are permitted in the pool area, but no glass containers are permitted at any time. Food and beverages are not allowed in the pools or on the apron immediately adjacent to the pools. Please remember to clean up and dispose of any garbage in the trash containers. If you are outside on the pool deck or patio and raise an umbrella, please lower it when you leave the area. If it gets windy while you are using the umbrella, please lower it, so it does not get damaged. Also, please return the tables and chairs to their proper place. All umbrella tables should have four chairs. The small tables should be spread out among the chaise lounges and extra chairs. Swim diapers must be worn by all young children not toilet trained. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that all public swimming facilities require the use of swim diapers on infants and toddlers. Thank you for your cooperation! With everyone’s help, we look forward to an enjoyable and fun-filled summer!
Facility Improvements The past few weeks you might have noticed there has been quite a few upgrades, changes and fixes going on in and around
the Bellalago and Isles of Bellalago Amenity Centers. Recent improvements at both Amenity Centers consist of the following: • Pressure washing of the facility roofs including guardhouses and The Grille. • Interior and exterior painting. • The paved extension added to Isles of Bellalago pool area. • New, easier to open table umbrellas added at both Amenity Center pools. Due to everyday wear and tear, most of this is routine maintenance that is normally done to keep the facilities looking their best. Unfortunately, there may be times when the pool, a piece of equipment or the building might be closed and, as you know, things can happen unexpectedly. We will keep you informed of when these closings may happen and thank everyone for your patience!
Resident Event Requests Bellalago and Isles of Bellalago residents have the privilege of scheduling parties and events at the Isles of Bellalago pool, MultiPurpose Room and picnic area at Bellalago. Events MUST be scheduled before using these areas by filling out a Resident Event Request Form, which can be picked up in the Amenity Centers. Forms need to be returned to the Bellalago Amenity Center no later than two weeks prior to the event. Resident Event Request Forms will only be accepted from residents with a membership in good standing and continue to be in good standing up to their event. A deposit is also required on the day of the event. Approvals of events are at the discretion of Club Management. The Event Request Form will contain specific facility policies and procedures.

he third quarter of 2017 has gotten here and luckily, just before it did, we finally started getting the summer rains we are all used to. With that, the community has started to green-up and the conditions brought on by the drought have lessened. As I write this, I have been involved with the community for 4 weeks now. I have been fortunate enough to meet with each of the committees once to date. We are in the process of organizing our Architectural Review Committee and our Violations Committee. Once we have gotten Board approval as to the participants, we will be making the community aware of who the members are and where and when the meetings are taking place. Both of these committees are sanctioned by the governing documents and are intrinsic to the management and enforcement of our rules and regulations as well as our guidelines. We were fortunate to have members from the Covenants Committee on hand to fulfill this need. An arrangement has been made with our existing Security vendor for the next few months extending until the end of October. We have made some requirements in both personnel, vehicles, and equipment and to date, they have fulfilled their part. We will see how they perform over the next several months in order to see if this should be looked at by the Security Committee and Management to become a multiyear arrangement.

We did hold a “Coffee Talk, my first with the community, at Liberty High School and the intention is to hold another one around the end of August. As we solidify those plans and reservations, we will make it known to the community. Hopefully, this second one will be better attended by the residents as the first one, while active, insightful, and purposeful, was only attended by around 40 residents. I appreciate the warm welcome I have received so far and will do my best to contribute positively to the Bellalago and Isles of Bellalago Community.

New Fitness Classes
BY GISELLE RODRIGUEZ, MEMBERSHIP & FITNESS COORDINATOR

ow! Summer is already here. I hope everyone is ready to start the season on the right foot! This time of the year is by far the most exciting. Families come together to plan summer activities and trips. It is also time to go to the pool and have fun under the sun! Starting this summer, here at Bellalago we are working on improving our fitness program. Thankfully, we received numerous responses from our fitness survey in the last few months. Based on the results of the fitness survey, we have started making some changes to our fitness schedule. In June, we welcomed back Kickboxing on Mondays at 7pm. Kickboxing is a full body workout that includes movements such as knee strikes, kicks, and punches. The combination of these exercises help strengthen and tone your body. You will have fun, reduce stress, and get an amazing workout. Beginning in July, we will start a HIIT Class (High-Intensity Interval Training) on Wednesdays at 6pm. HIIT Class will consist of a full body workout with a variety of challenging circuit training focused on strengthening your body! Our TRX class will move to Wednesdays at 7pm. Also starting this July are two 30-minute express classes on Monday mornings. Start off your morning at 7:30am with Full Body Circuit class followed by Step Into Your Core at 8:05am. 6
BELLALAGO BEACON | SUMMER 2017
These express classes have been incorporated to the fitness schedule for those residents that may not have a full hour to be in a class. Sculpt your entire body with 30 minutes of Full Body Circuit followed by 30 minutes of Step Into Your Core, a fusion step class geared towards cardio and abs. Lastly we are excited to offer another class for our Bellalago kids! The Kids Fitness Hour will take place every Thursday from 11am-12pm for the month of July. The Kids Fitness Hour will include Yoga, Zumba, and Fitcamp for ages 6 to 12. Bellalago offers over 15 fitness classes in all intensity levels. I encourage our community to come and enjoy the classes offered just for you. We are tailoring the fitness programs to better serve you. Going forward we will continue to make fitness class changes as needed. If you have any questions or concerns on our fitness classes please feel free to contact me directly.

Staff Spotlight
Sally Tsakonas – HOA Compliance/ ARC Coordinator Q: How long have you been with Evergreen? A: I have been at Bellalago for the past 4 months. My one year at Evergreen will be on August 15th.
Q: Can you describe your current job in a few sentences? Talk about what a work day is like for you. A: My current job is to assist with the Homeowners Association Compliance inquiries and process all Architectural Review Requests to be reviewed by the Architectural Review Committee (ARC). In addition, I assist the Membership Department with Lease Applications. My workday varies in its day-to-day activities. Throughout the day, I continuously answer residents inquiries via email or phone regarding the ARC process. I contact residents regarding needed documents, as well as review those provided. Once the ARC request is reviewed by the committee and processed, I make sure the homeowner is contacted immediately. I also support the administrative and managerial staff as needed. As a native Spanish speaker, I help the front desk staff with any inquiries regarding Violations, ARCs and Membership. I am currently working to update the system for paint requirements and other violations as well.

BELLALAGO BEACON | SUMMER 2017
Q: What’s your favorite thing about your job so far? A: There are actually two things that appeal to me about this job. One is the flexibility it provides. I like to continuously improve processes and change methods of doing tasks. I am able to work at my pace while finding areas of improvement. The second is that I really enjoy this kind of work. I am given the opportunity to learn and help others.
Q: What’s the most challenging part of your job? A: My big challenge is time management. I like to get every task completed before I go home. However, there are times that I cannot complete them all. I am learning to be more patient with myself and make sure the tasks are completed accurately.
Q: Do you have a surprising personal factoid to share? A: I love to travel and see new places. I try to do something that scares me, such as snorkeling in the coral reef off the Florida Keys. I also like to read.
Q: Any final words? A: “Yesterday I was clever so I wanted to change the world, today I am wise, so I am changing myself.”

Spruce Up for Summer
BY JOSE CHAPARRO, COMMUNITY STANDARDS MANAGER
S
ummer is here and one of the favorite seasons for some homeowners and/or residents because it’s the time to take advantage of the flowers blooming and the landscape coming alive. Unfortunately it is also one of the busiest seasons for landscape violations due to the rapid growth of various components and the challenges it presents to keep up with the maintenance. In an effort to help everyone and to lessen my work load (LOL!), we wanted to provide residents with some tips to make it easier to maintain your landscape through the summer months. 1. Trees and shrubs - Keep them trimmed on a regular basis; at a minimum, once a month should be adequate. 2. Weeds - Be sure to remove them from flower beds and driveways; these should be treated/pulled once every two weeks. 3. Grass - Summer is tough on grass: heat, drought, insects and other factors contribute to the stress of grass. Fertilize your lawn to help protect and strengthen it and be sure to have an insecticide program to proactively eliminate insect and diseases before they cause costly damage to your lawn. During these summer months, mowing once a week is appropriate. 4. Edging - you should edge at the hard surfaces around your home, driveways, walkways, patios, etc., one week and then “soft” edge, at your landscape beds, the next week to help keep the “grass runners” from invading your beds. You should find that keeping up with all of these landscaping needs on a regular basis will save you time in the long run and help preserve the quality and appearance of your landscaping. 10
BELLALAGO BEACON | SUMMER 2017
Other than landscaping issues, some of the more common occurrences that I find myself having to address include garbage bins being left out and, in some cases, without their lids, causing the waste to be distributed across several lots. Other issues include commercial vehicles being left out all night instead of being housed in the garage, and pets not being on a leash or the pet owner not picking up after our “best friends.” If you have received a notification/violation and have corrected the issue or have questions, please notify me as soon as possible so I can close the violation or provide you with any assistance you may need. I want to thank the many residents who do their part to help keep our community beautiful and a desirable place to live. Please visit BellalagoHOA.com and register if you haven’t as of yet and you will find plenty of information regarding events, updates, vendors, your community documents, and so much more. If you have any questions regarding violations, you can reach me at JChaparro@Evergreen-LM.com. For landscape issues, please register at the floralawn.com website and you will be able to submit work orders and/or requests. You can also call Floralawn at 863-668-0494. For any other questions, please call Evergreen Customer Service at 877-221-6919 and they will be able to assist you as well.
