Summer is here ... and the sun is shining! I want to say a big "Thank You" to all of our amazing community members. Everyone has been so welcoming and gracious as I learn this new role as your Lifestyle Manager and we begin to open back up after a difficult year. I look forward to meeting more members and learning the wide variety of interests within our community. There is a lot to look forward to with the upcoming line up of events, so make sure you mark your calendars! We have our second Signature Event, Under the Big Top, coming in July and we are calling all members to the center ring for an evening of exploration and wonder. We will have our weekly social gatherings at the Resort Amenity with fan favorites and a few new ideas. In case you need another excuse to eat and drink, July is packed with national food and beverage holidays, like National Strawberry Sundae Day on July 7th and National Daiquiri Day on July 19th. With our community growing quickly, we ask that you be a kind neighbor and RSVP to events and remember that we are all in this together. Happy Summer!

Where are you from and where did you move from? Carol: Central New York State and Lake Wylie, SC. Vince: I came from Parrish, only 15 minutes away. Why did you pick Palmetto / Esplanade at Artisan Lakes and how long have you lived here? Carol: My late husband and I moved to this area because my sisters and their husbands live in Ellenton. We were one of the original few that bought our home in Esplanade in 2014. It was marketed as an active adult lifestyle community and we preferred not to live in an age restricted community. We were looking for a community that would have a variety of activities and was maintenance free. Vince: I was working for Taylor Morrison selling their homes and about four years ago I was transferred from St. Pete to Artisan. Once I started working here, my late wife and I realized how nice the people were and we decided this is where we wanted to live. The beauty of the community and the lifestyle is just a bonus. I have lived here about three and a half years.
HOWDY NEIGHBORS If you would like to be featured or want to nominate
What can we find you doing during your free time? Carol: Ballroom dance classes, oil painting, walking on the beach, listening to music while sitting by the pool, and reading a good book. Vince: First and foremost, spending time with Carol, either traveling or just hanging out. I love to fish and I'm a very active billiards player. What do you think everyone should do/ try at least once in their lives? Carol: Live their life to the fullest and don’t be afraid to try things that are outside their comfort zone. Vince: Skydiving! I made about 30 jumps while in the Marines. It’s truly a rush. Where is the most exciting place you have ever visited? Carol: It is hard to narrow it down to just one, but one of my favorites is the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany. Vince: Visiting Sicily, Italy. There is so much history.
What is your favorite thing about the community? Carol: Without a doubt, the people who live here. Vince: The people, by far, are the best thing about the community. I sold nearly 200 homes to families that now live here, who I call my friends. This is also where I met Carol. We recently became engaged and we're planning our future together.
Tell us about a fun fact that may surprise your fellow Esplanade neighbors. Carol: I love racing and sports cars. I even had a Dodge Viper for a couple of years, which in hindsight I wish I never sold. I attended a couple of the Skip Barber racing schools. I did 100 laps and came in 4th out of 8 drivers, and I was the only female. I absolutely love the adrenaline rush of fast cars and roller coasters. My dream would be to rent a Bugatti for a day.
Which Lifestyle program interests you the most? Carol: With so many great ones it's hard to pick just one, but I really enjoy the ladies’ luncheons, recipe club, line dancing and events that our lifestyle team puts together. Vince: Pickleball, Signature Events and Taste of Artisan.
Vince: The last time I was visiting family in Sicily, I got to sleep in the same room where I was born. I shoot billiards competitively. In July I will be competing in a tournament in Orlando that will have over 500 participants from all over the country.

DERBY DAY Our 2021 Signature Event Series was off to the races, with our first event in the lineup! From mint juleps and hot browns to seer suckers and fancy hats, members had a ball. Between the yard games and the specialized photo wall, there was something for everyone. Matthew Sabatella and the Rambling String Band kept members moving and grooving throughout the afternoon with their bluegrass, southern style string music - the perfect addition to any Derby party. There can’t be a Derby Day Signature Event without a hat contest. With over 20 contestants, the audience had a hard time narrowing it down to the top 3. There were hats that had rolls of tulle, toy horses, vibrant florals, and even a hat that had made an appearance at Churchill Downs. As the main event made the turn, members gathered to watch the anticipated victory from Medina Spirit. After some celebration and some disappointment, it was back to the games and dancing. With a few more drinks and laughs, our members took the memories from this victory event home with them.

Summer SALSA Easy to Make This delicious recipe is fast & affordable!
INGREDIENTS
DIRECTIONS
• 1 medium onion (recommend using a sweet onion, but a red onion can be used for more zest) • 1 bunch of cilantro finely diced • 1 large can diced tomatoes (optional – use the diced tomatoes with basil & oregano seasoning) • 2 (15 oz) cans seasoned black beans • 2 (15 oz) cans kernel corn (note: do not use cream corn) • Italian Dressing – 16 oz (recommend “Zesty Italian Dressing”) • Chips (recommend using corn chips for dipping) • 1 large bowl (recommend using a reusable container with lid for travel and easy storage)
1. Open cans and drain black beans, tomatoes, and corn. Tip: Pour all cans in a strainer and let them slowly drain as you dice onion and cilantro. Note: Do not rinse. 2. Dice onion and cilantro and put in bowl 3. Once canned vegetables are drained, pour into bowl with onions and cilantro 4. Mix vegetables together 5. Pour Italian dressing into bowl a little at a time and mix. Continue to pour in dressing until reach desired consistency and flavor. Recommend: When using 16 oz dressing bottle, use about half the bottle or a little over 6. Mix everything together, serve with chips and enjoy. Option: Put in refrigerator for a few hours before to serve fresh, cold salsa.

The class utilizes free weights, resistance bands, range of motion bars and body weight exercises. All exercises are meant to increase overall strength, range of motion, flexibility, and core strength. Standing balance exercises may also be performed in this class for various levels. In this class, postures are practiced to align, strengthen and promote flexibility in the body. Breathing techniques and meditation are also integrated. You can expect an emphasis on simplicity, repetition, and ease of movement. Full-body relaxation and balance are the goals, as we make a full circuit of the body’s range of motion with standing postures, twists, backbends, forward folds, and hip openers.

Create wholesome habits in your lifestyle all month long and see how much better you feel! Research has shown self-care helps manage stress and promotes happiness. early 80% of elementary students in Manatee County qualify for free and reduced lunches at school. So, what happens during the summer time? Many Manatee County schools, businesses and organizations continue to donate and provide meals for students while on summer break. This past month, Esplanade at Artisan Lakes joined in on this effort and worked with Meals on Wheels Plus to help local families. With June 6th designated as National Hunger Awareness Day, Meals on Wheels Plus highlighted Hunger Awareness the entire month. Our community came together during the month of June to spread love and food throughout to the families in need here in Manatee County. Stay connected to nature by visiting any of our local and state parks and preserves. Get involved in helping keep your community clean by disposing of trash in appropriate receptacles and picking up after your furry friends. Want to make a bigger difference? Join in larger community clean ups, such as: 1st Saturday Clean Up at Bayfront Park on Anna Maria Island, hosted by Keeping Manatee Beautiful.
