Happy New Year! Wishing you and your loved ones a happy, healthy, and abundant 2024! We are so excited to dive into a calendar filled with exciting new activities and adventures. Jumpstart your New Year’s health goals by participating in our newest fitness class additions, sunset yoga or CIRCL, a strength and mobility class. If classes aren’t your preference, join us as we go on a kayaking excursion through the mangroves or a spirited game on the pickleball courts. Don’t forget to take care of your body after all that movement with a therapeutic massage right here in our treatment room. If your resolution is to meet new people, take advantage of the fun Lifestyle events taking place in your neighborhood. Don’t forget to check out our philanthropic opportunities. Explore those charitable opportunities by joining us in volunteering at a local food bank in January! We have events for everyone, from crafting nights and educational lectures to bingo, trivia, and ice cream socials. Stay busy this year and make it the best year yet! Monthly Member meetings are always on the roster. We encourage all newly closed Members to join us for Esplanade 101, as it is the key to your Lifestyle here at The Heights. We also invite all Members to join us for Neighborhood News, a community update with your dedicated team, and Coffee and Conversation with your Lifestyle Manager to discuss your curated events. MEMBER SPOTLIGHT / A LOOK AHEAD

Betty Berger The Members of our community are truly what make this a wonderful place to live. In each edition, we will spotlight a Member, couple or family to showcase the amazing people that call our community home. If you would like to be featured or want to nominate another Member, please contact your Lifestyle Manager.

B

etty Berger moved to Esplanade in September from St. Louis, Missouri where she raised her four sons with her late husband. For years she visited her mom in Ft. Lauderdale, loving the weather and lifestyle. After retiring, Betty became a snow bird then full-time resident in Lakewood Ranch for several years. After a brief return to St. Louis, Betty decided to buy a place in The Heights. Why Esplanade at The Heights? Betty loves the location and the proximity to Sarasota, Whole Foods, the mall and the beach! She found a villa to be the perfect size for her and visiting friends and family, and the size of the community ideal. Mt. Tumalo is a literal BIG plus for walks and views of sunsets! She couldn’t be happier with her choice. Betty enjoys going out to live music venues and knows a lot of places and local bands - if you are interested let her know! Visiting local museums, finding the perfect beach, and discovering good restaurants are her main interests. As a lifetime pescatarian, she enjoys cooking and hosting friends and family. She also likes a good card game, canasta and Mahjong, and is willing to teach others. Betty plans to take art classes again at Manatee Art Center in watercolor and clay building. She enjoys staying active by walking, exercising, swimming and meeting her new neighbors.

SAVASANA YOGA Many New Year’s Resolutions often revolve around weight loss or muscle gain, but there are various ways to transform and improve your body. Yoga is a unique practice that not only boosts flexibility and strength, but also brings tranquility to your mind. While there are many ways to practice yoga, incorporating Savasana can make a significant difference mentally and physically. Savasana involves lying flat and completely still, often referred to as the corpse pose,

at the end of a yoga session. It serves as a time to steady your breathing, meditate, and connect with your body and mind. Practicing this moment of stillness, even for a few minutes after a yoga session, can greatly reduce stress and anxiety, fostering a sense of calm and allowing the body time to integrate the practice it has just undergone. This seemingly “easy” part of the session is often skipped by those rushing to their next task. However, the next time you are tempted to skip it, stick around and see if you can feel the positive difference it makes.
