Letter From the Lifestyle Team

New Year, New Fun!

Happy New Year! I want to welcome you all to a new and exciting year here at Esplanade. We have many BIG things coming your way!

Speaking of BIG things, we’ll be kicking off the New Year with the Grand Opening Party for our first Satellite Cabana Pool on Zeno Way. Join us on Sunday, January 15 for lunch, live music, and games as we celebrate this milestone the “Esplanade” way.

With the satellite pool opening, we’ll soon be offering Aqua Fitness Classes on Mondays at 8:30 a.m. and Fridays at 9 a.m. These classes are $10 per class, per Member. A minimum of seven Members registered is required 48 hours before the scheduled class to keep it on the schedule. There will be no drop-in rate, so you must register in advance to participate.

Our community is growing at a very fast rate, and we are welcoming a lot of new homeowners weekly. That being said, events will continue to fill at a rapid speed, so it is very important that you pay attention to our Lifestyle Calendar on our website as well as our weekly Lifestyle email blasts which are sent out every Saturday. We don’t want you to miss out on any of the FUN!

Don’t forget, you need to register for events, activities, and fitness programming via our website (EsplanadeByTheIslandsLifestyle.com). Unfortunately, we do not accept reservations on our community Facebook page or by email. Once you register, you will receive your tickets via email immediately after you submit your payment. Please note, that every event has cancellation deadlines that need to be met if you want to be refunded after you purchase tickets.

We have a lot of new event experiences packed into the next two months, so we hope you enjoy them. Our next Signature Event experience will be the Seaside Social on Sunday, February 5. This time we will be using the Zeno Way Pool Parking Lot & Pool Area to create more of a casual “festival feel.” The Caribbean Chillers, Florida’s favorite Jimmy Buffet Tribute band, will be on the main stage. We will have games, including Ax Throwing with Chuck It Axes, and tropical food from Pryceless Island Grill! You do not want to miss this event.

I look forward to another busy event season with you all this year!

Furry Friends Meet Ginger

Tell us about your pet’s breed, age and birthday. Ginger is a fluffy Pomeranian - part of the spitz breeds. She was born July 2, 2016, which makes Ginger 6 years old, but in dog years she is 40.

What is your pet’s favorite pastime? Now that Ginger has a home in paradise (Naples), her new favorite activity is going for golf cart rides. She loves the breeze in her face! Ironically enough, back in Rhode Island she loved to frolic in the snow, take naps, and of course eat.

What does she get reprimanded for the most? BARKING, BARKING AND BARKING.

What are your pet’s best characteristics? Ginger is very cute, smart, set in her ways, not crazy about change and she can do pee pees on command.

Tell us about the time you welcomed your pet to your loving home. Well, I had a chihuahua before Ginger and she passed away so Michael got Ginger for me. I love animals and was sad about my dog Chi-Chi, so Ginger put a smile back on my face. She was scared at first, especially when we first brought her home. To make her feel more at home, we gave Ginger so many toys and snuggles and talked to her. She is so happy now and loves us back.

The Members of our community are truly what make this a wonderful place to live. In each edition, we will spotlight a Member, couple or family to showcase the amazing people that call our community home. If you would like to be featured or want to nominate another Member, please contact your Lifestyle Manager.

Why did you choose Naples/Esplanade by the Islands? Is your residency full-time or part-time?

I have lived in Naples for the past seven years, but my parents have had a place here since the ‘90s. I have always loved Naples. After I moved to Naples my sister and her family also moved here. I lived in Treviso Bay for six years, but when I visited Esplanade by the Islands (and being familiar with Esplanade golf and all the amenities) I decided it was a great investment. I love being close to Marco Island.

Q AI am a full-time resident.

What Lifestyle programs are you most interested in? Also, tell us your hobbies.

I love all the social events, including the Signature Events, happy hours, golf with the ladies group, and ladies luncheons. I would love to play organized canasta or bunco.

I play tennis almost every day and am anxiously awaiting the Tennis and Pickleball Courts here. I also enjoy paddle boarding and kayaking.

Tell us about your family/pets and your current or past profession(s).

I have three awesome kids. Kyle lives in St. Petersburg,

Katlyn is in Portland, Oregon, and Jack is in Chicago. I have two happy, little white dogs Sully and Gus. I have been a realtor with Downing Frye Realty for the past seven years.

What is your favorite thing to do with out-of-town visitors?

The first priority with guests is a day at the beach, and then dinner out on 3rd or 5th Avenue.

What is the best advice you have ever received or given?

The quote I always turn to is, “I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul,” which is from the poem Invictus It reminds me that I am the one that determines my path to happiness. That sounded really deep – I didn’t mean to get so serious, but love (and sometimes need) to remember it.

Tell us something that may surprise people. While I am a very busy, active person, I love nothing more than an afternoon nap on my lanai.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

I am looking forward to meeting more neighbors and really excited to see what this community looks like in a year.

Love Your Pet Day

On February 20, pet lovers everywhere observe National Love Your Pet Day. This holiday focuses on giving extra attention to our pets. The day encourages pampering our pets and focusing on the special relationship pets hold in our lives.

Did you know that most households in the United States have at least one pet? While there are more cats than dogs in the United States, more households have dogs than cats, but not by much. Pets are not limited to the canine and feline categories. There are quite a few who prefer the companionship of birds, reptiles, fish, or rats. Whoever your pet companion is, we are sure you will enjoy spending a little extra time with them on National Love Your Pet Day and reap the benefits as well, such as stress relief and lower blood pressure. So on February 20 (and every day) show your appreciation to your pets!

Be sure to check our community Facebook page on February 20 where we are going to ask you to comment on our post with pictures of your pets!

National Bloody Mary Day

National Bloody Mary Day falls on January 1, which is convenient for everyone who may have partied a little too much the night before. Ring in the year by celebrating with the famous cocktail (see the Best Ever Bloody Mary recipe below). We’ll note that while it can alleviate hangover symptoms, it can further dehydrate you, so drink responsibly. Still, a Bloody Mary is the Number 1 brunch cocktail in the U.S. Take that, mimosas.

INGREDIENTS

» 3 cups tomato juice

» 3 tablespoons lemon juice

» 3 tablespoons lime juice

» 1 tablespoon prepared horseradish

» 1 1⁄2 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce

» 1⁄4 teaspoon garlic powder

» 3⁄4 teaspoon Tabasco Sauce

» 3⁄4 teaspoon celery salt

» 1⁄2 teaspoon coarse black pepper

» 1⁄3 cup pickle juice

» 1 ounce vodka, per drink

DIRECTIONS

1. In a blender combine the tomato juice, lemon juice, lime juice, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, pickle juice, hot sauce and process until smooth. Transfer to a nonreactive container and add celery salt and black pepper, to taste. Refrigerate until thoroughly chilled, at least 2 hours and up to overnight.

2. When ready to serve, fill each glass with ice and add 1 ounce of vodka, then fill the glass with the Bloody Mary mix. Stir well, and garnish each glass with your favorite veggie, pickle, celery, pickled green bean, or a pickled okra.
