Letter From the Lifestyle Team CHRISTINE FOSTER YOUR LIFESTYLE MANAGER

Spring is in the air! Welcome to the end of the first quarter of the year! How did this happen, you ask? The good old cliché, “time flies when you’re having fun,” that’s how! If you’re still waiting to close on your new home, our lifestyle programming is actively ready for you to take the opportunity to meet your new neighbors before moving in! I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who volunteered their time to donate to our Blood Drive in January. We met our goal and were able to collect enough donations to benefit up to 42 lives! April is National Volunteer Month, and we want to hear about your efforts in our local community. If you spend time volunteering somewhere, please contact me so we can share! We might have Members looking to contribute their time and skills to help someone in need. I am pleased to announce two new services added to our Esplanade Concierge Program: Endless Pawsibilities Mobile Pet Grooming and Modern Casa Home Watch. You’ll find their contact information on the Concierge page as well as on our Member website. March and April come with a lot of environmental awareness; whether it’s World Wildlife Day, Earth Day, or World Water Day, we invite you to join us in the programs we have planned to observe

these days! In March, Captains of Clean Water will hold a virtual seminar presenting their mission to raise awareness on solutions to solve Florida’s water mismanagement in order to help secure the health of our water resources and to protect our way of life for future generations. On Earth Day, we’ll be gathering at Baker Park for a morning walk along their trails. I’d like to kindly remind everyone of the importance of both registering for activities and canceling your registrations if you are no longer able to attend, in a timely manner. This allows us to accurately anticipate total attendance and ensure the most enjoyable lifestyle programming for our Members! Sometimes activities require a participation minimum, so we also want to make sure we are meeting certain guidelines to host these activities. Lastly, don’t forget to “spring forward” one hour on March 13 and please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or suggestions you may have!

TEAM SPOTLIGHT

Stasia Hope Voorhees YOUR REGIONAL LIFESTYLE DIRECTOR

W

e are pleased to formally introduce you to Stasia Voorhees, your Regional Lifestyle Director of the Esplanade Brand. Stasia is currently providing onsite Lifestyle support to all twelve Esplanade communities located in Florida. That portfolio continues to expand and evolve as the Esplanade Brand reaches new heights nationwide! In addition to providing strategic Lifestyle programming support to all local Lifestyle teams, Stasia has played a pivotal role in providing day-to-day operations support at the communities. Whether that’s showing up ready to set up and break down an onsite event or taking on the daily responsibilities of a local Lifestyle Manager during times of staff transition, Stasia is truly an irreplaceable member of our team and is always ready to step in at a moment’s notice. After earning her Associates of Arts Degree from St. Petersburg College, and her Bachelors Degree in Psychology from the Florida Institute of Technology, Stasia began her career as a teacher and taught early childhood education, ages 3-6 years old. After learning about the Lifestyle Manager role, she decided to make a career transition, and was an acting Lifestyle Manager for five years before her well-deserved promotion to Regional Lifestyle Director. Born and raised in Safety Harbor, Florida, Stasia is the oldest of three, with two younger brothers, Brandon and Mitchel. She is also the proud aunt of Santi and Colton. In 2017 she married her husband Kelly, and the pair celebrated their 5-year wedding anniversary in February of this year! Kelly and Stasia met in their hometown but eventually relocated to Sarasota, where they met some of their most cherished, lifelong friends! Stasia currently shares a loving home with her husband, her dog Yoshi (who will be celebrating a 9th birthday this year) and her beloved, almost threeyear-old son Benjamin. “He is truly the most amazing thing to ever happen to me. He has taught me so much about love and life and I am so fortunate to be his mommy,” Stasia shares. As a family, some of their favorite things to do together are play outside where Benny loves to swing on his special red swing, watch football, go on adventures and spend time with family and friends. Stasia’s side of the family are also Disney lovers and self-proclaimed (rightfully so!) Disney park experts, and have created many wonderful memories at the Walt Disney World Resort together with annual family trips. Stasia comes from a very sport centric family, with a special affinity for football. “I am a huge Miami Dolphins fan and Tampa Bay Lighting fan - Go Fins and Bolts!” Stasia and her husband also really enjoy traveling. Stasia’s schedule keeps her on the road and adventuring across the state of Florida, but if you happen to see her around your community, she’d love to meet you in person. Thank you Stasia, for all that you do for our teams – we could not do it without you!

Furry Friends MEET

Pecan – LOVED BY THE HANNAY FAMILY

What is your breed, age and birthday? I’m an 8 1/2-year-old Hungarian Viszla born on September 4, 2013. What is your favorite pastime? Following my mom around wherever she goes (that’s why my breed is known as the #1 Velcro dog). When she’s not home, I’m sleeping! What do you get reprimanded for and what are your best characteristics? Not much, I don’t like it when someone yells or speaks sternly to me. I’m a lovable girl who just wants to be near my humans. Tell us about the time your humans welcomed you to their loving home. I was just over 5 years old when some nice people came and rescued me and a few others from a breeder in New Hampshire. During my first 5 years of life, I was not in the greatest living conditions and had experiences that did not have my best interests at heart. When I was brought to my new home, I was surrounded by love and patience, and it was here that I learned to thrive in my new environment! There was a 10-year-old puggle (Lola) living there who became my best friend until she passed just before our move to Florida in December. I’m still very shy with new people but am adjusting to our new home pretty well and not missing the cold weather and snow in Massachusetts. I enjoy walks around the new neighborhood and watching the birds fly by the lanai.

ESPLANADE CONNECT / COMMUNITY STEWARDSHIP

April is National Volunteer Month

V

olunteerism is instilled at a young age in the United States. In many parts of the country, it is the cornerstone of summer vacation or woven into after school programs. Most organizations in small towns, rural counties and the largest cities would not function without volunteers. In some families, the baton of volunteerism is handed down generation after generation. Rural fire and ambulance departments remain staffed due to the efforts of volunteers. The underprivileged receive much needed medical care thanks to volunteers. Long overdue repairs and upgrades are made to senior citizen homes thanks to an organization’s annual call for donations and skilled workers. Volunteering can be a small act of kindness or make a huge difference in someone’s life. There is no volunteer act too big or too small to make an impact. This month, thank a volunteer or volunteer yourself! Many volunteers will tell you it is a rewarding experience. You don’t have to have a ton of time. Do you have a special talent or skill that may benefit a charity or organization? Offer your services or ask how you can be of help. Do you currently volunteer somewhere? We want to know about it! Please share your volunteer efforts with your Lifestyle Manager so we can share with the community.

Captains for Clean Water VIRTUAL PRESENTATION Tuesday, March 22 | 11 a.m. | Zoom Whether it’s World Wildlife Day, Earth Hour, World Water Day, or Manatee Appreciation Day, we dedicate March to learning about Florida’s marine life and diverse ecosystems! The Florida Peninsula is one of the most unique landscapes on earth. Periodically inundated in a sub-tropical setting, it features one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world, the Everglades. The control of this water—draining it, redirecting it, and containing it—has been an evolving story over the last two centuries of man versus nature. And a story where there is no true winner, unless we can find a balance that ensures the ongoing health of each. Captains for Clean Water is a grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that fights to restore and protect our water resources. Join us for a virtual presentation by Captain Chris Wittman on the importance of preserving our natural resources and what we can do today to protect tomorrow. Registration required by Monday, March 21.
