Letter From the Lifestyle Team CHRISTINE FOSTER YOUR LIFESTYLE MANAGER
Goodbye April showers, hello May flowers! I love this saying as I always took it as a life metaphor to welcome the flowers that bloom after a storm. We are almost halfway through the year and I hope everyone enjoyed their time in paradise before heading back up north or wherever it is you are calling home until you’re able to move into the neighborhood! If you’re here year-round, well, lucky you!
through the waterways. This tour is still subject to public booking, so the sooner you book, the better!
With Mother’s Day and Father’s Day around the corner, we want to make sure you stop by the Sales Gallery on the Monday following those holidays for a special treat. We also want to wish those who hold that important title, however it may be, a very happy day while taking the time to do something nice for yourself. You deserve it!
Lastly, I must leave you with bittersweet news. This is my final letter to the Members of Esplanade by the Islands as I have been presented with the full-time opportunity to help my family’s business grow. I truly enjoyed being such a huge part in developing the many friendships that have formed in this community and all the amazing outings and programs I have been able to execute during my time here. I am grateful for the relationships I’ve made with you all and I couldn’t have imagined “retiring” from my career as a Lifestyle Manager on a higher note. Esplanade by the Islands is so special and I can’t wait to continue to watch it grow from the sidelines. Thank you to everyone who made igniting my passion for creating memorable moments so easy and for the support you’ve shown our programming during the past year and a half. I hope to cross paths with you all, again! Stay safe and keep living your best life in our slice of Esplanade paradise.
Hurricane season is upon us and if we learned anything from seasons past, it’s that you can never be too prepared! On June 1, Allyson Rae from NBC 2 will be hosting a virtual seminar for our Esplanade Members to discuss her general hurricane season outlook. We encourage you to also invite your friends and family who may also find this informative presentation useful. June 8 is World Oceans Day and what better way to observe the day and kick off summertime than to kayak through mangroves in our own backyard? The tour is led by highly knowledgeable professionals who will be providing all the fun nature facts as you adventure
In between our environmental events are some really fun socials such as Cinco de Mayo fiesta! We’ve also “sprinkled” in a casual Ice Cream Social on National Chocolate Ice Cream Day.

TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Katelynn Carlson NATIONAL DIRECTOR OF MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS
W
e are pleased to introduce your National Director of Marketing and Communications, Katelynn Carlson. Katelynn works hand in hand with Taylor Morrison Marketing to provide communications and marketing support to Esplanade communities nationwide. Out of all of the projects from last year, one of her favorites was the rebranding of the very publication you are enjoying right now, the Esplanade Lifestyle Magazine! She works closely with each local Lifestyle Manager to ensure that their Lifestyle experiences, Members, beloved community pets and the wonderful work they do to produce your Lifestyle programming is shared in a fun and engaging way. You have heard this sentiment throughout last year, but as Esplanade continues to span the nation, Katelynn looks forward to even more ways to spotlight the amazing things our local teams are doing at each community to bring the Esplanade Lifestyle experience to life each day. Katelynn earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in the field of Communications and Marketing from The University of Central Florida. After graduating, she spent her first year as an intern at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Florida, working as a social media and content coordinator helping to tell the amazing family stories and acts of kindness of local volunteers. In 2012, she was thrilled to join The Walt Disney Company as a Communications and Marketing professional at the Walt Disney World Resort, and spent the next decade growing her skills and knowledge and making magic in a variety of marketing roles. Prior to joining the Evergreen Team, she spent 6 years of her Disney career working to establish, execute and sustain a communications and marketing foundation for the Members of Disney’s one-of-a-kind resort residential community, Golden Oak. She partnered closely with their neighbors, the Four Seasons Resort Orlando to stay engaged with the structure of their exclusive, luxury homeowner experience, The Four Seasons Private Residences. With this knowledge and expertise, the transition to support the growing Esplanade brand seemed like the perfect fit! When she’s not busy finding ways to innovate and create in the world of Esplanade marketing and communications, Katelynn loves to spend time at her home in Orlando, Florida with her two rescue kitties, Lincoln and Harper or out around town with her friends. As a native to Orlando, she is blessed to have sustained friendships as far back as kindergarten, with many of those friends still living in the area. “My family and friends are everything to me,” she shares. “I have a wonderful, close relationship with my parents who actually live 10 minutes up the road, and it’s such a blessing.” She loves to stay active and tries to start each morning with exercise and movement, usually at her F45 gym in Central Florida. She is also passionate about storytelling through images and began her own wedding photography business 6 years ago! When we asked her to explain something she’s most thankful for so far in 2022, she shares: “To be honest, I’m just tremendously thankful to wake up every day and work with a team of people who I truly care about and enjoy being around. Our Esplanade national team, and the team members that make up our local teams, are so passionate, creative, and driven. It’s a privilege to work alongside them. On a personal note, I’d like to get on an international flight again, for leisure travel! I’m not sure where I want to head to next but Switzerland has always been high on the list!”

PET FEATURE / GET INVOLVED
Furry Friends MEET Daisy – LOVED BY THE DIGRAZIO FAMILY What is your breed, age and birthday? I am a Golden Retriever. My birthday is May 29, 2020. What is your favorite pastime? I love to swim in my new pool. I fly through the air & then do belly flops but that doesn’t bother me at all. I love fetching tennis balls in and out of the water, but sometimes I love a nice, leisurely swim. I also love to steal socks and shoes. I don’t chew them; I just like to get a reaction and it usually works! What do you get reprimanded for and what are your best characteristics? I am the welcoming committee to whoever enters the house. Sometimes I forget that I’m not supposed to jump on people and my parents give me a firm reminder by saying “OFF!” I get excited because I just love people. I love meeting new people and making new friends! My best characteristics… hmmm let’s see... I’m a real cuddler! I give a lot of love and get a lot back, too. My parents might continue dog training here in Naples if they find a good therapy dog program.
HAVE A FURRY FAMILY MEMBER THAT YOU WANT TO FEATURE? Contact your Lifestyle Manager to be featured in the next edition. Answer a few questions about your furry, feathery, or scaly friend and share a couple pictures. Don’t have a furry family of your own, but know a community Member who does? Nominate them to be the next Featured Furry Friend.
Tell us about the time your humans welcomed you to their loving home. My humans bought me from a breeder in Clarksville, Tennessee. It was a long process for them to find me, but I was well worth it! They couldn’t find a Golden Retriever anywhere close to New Jersey, so they found me on an AKC website. The breeder matched up each puppy with their corresponding family. It was love at first sight! It was also my first (and only) plane ride. I was their carry-on luggage. When we got to our home in New Jersey, my humans did some silly things. They bought me some comfy dog beds, but I preferred to sleep on a pile of shoes. They also tried to put me in a crate in the other room at bedtime but I made my way into their bedroom. I didn’t sleep in their bed. I just wanted to be in the same room so I could be near them. Things haven’t changed since!
Interest Groups & Social Clubs Doing more of what makes us happy is called the key to life by many. Share your passion and take the first step by creating a club or group today.
S
ocial clubs and interest groups create a great opportunity for Members to learn a new skill, make new friends, or share a hobby with your neighbors who have similar interests. In each edition, we will spotlight a Member, couple or family to showcase the amazing people that call our community home. If you would like to be featured or want to nominate another Member, please contact your Lifestyle Manager. Why did you choose Naples/Esplanade by the Islands? We are looking forward to utilizing them! We are full-time Members. What Lifestyle programs are you most interested in? Also, tell us your hobbies. WELLNESS
National Sunscreen Day National Sunscreen Day is May 27. Years of health campaigns have ensured that we all know that sunscreen is very important. In fact, it’s essential to wear and regularly re-apply sunscreen when out in the sun.
T
o help you get a better understanding regarding safe-sunscreen practices, we are going to clear up some of the most common myths about sun damage and sunscreen that people believe today. »
»
»
»
Myth 1 – I don’t need to wear sunscreen if it is cold or cloudy. If the sun is in the sky, you need to wear sunscreen, and the sun is always in the sky! Myth 2 – My sunscreen is SPF 50 so I don’t need to wear it as much. It does not matter what SPF is associated with your sunscreen, it is only going to last for around two hours, so you still need to re-apply. Myth 3 – I don’t need to reapply my sunscreen after swimming because it is waterproof. In fact, there is no such thing as waterproof sunscreen. Water resistant, yes, but waterproof, no! Myth 4 – I don’t need sunscreen because I have dark skin. It may be more difficult to see sun damage on dark skin. However, people with dark skin are just as susceptible to sunburn, so you still need to make sure you wear sunscreen.
3 BENEFITS OF SPF 1. Protect Against Premature Aging: Overexposure to sunlight can increase the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. 2. Reduces Risk of Cancer: Sunscreen is very effective in reducing the risk of developing a variety of skin cancers, especially melanoma. 3. Healthy Skin Overall: Essential proteins in the skin like keratin are protected when sunscreen is applied.
