Letter From the Lifestyle Team
CARRI ADAM
YOUR LIFESTYLE MANAGER
Make it an Esplanade Season to Remember!
Wow, it’s hard to believe six months have gone by since I started here as your Lifestyle Manager! We sure have packed a whole lot of FUN into these past few months. The support of the Lifestyle programs has been fantastic for a community that is only a few years old. I will continue to build on that momentum as we head into 2023!
Don’t forget, you need to register for events, activities, and fitness programming on our website (esplanadebytheislandslifestyle. com). Unfortunately, we do not accept reservations on our community Facebook page. Once you register for an event, you will receive your tickets via email immediately after you submit your payment.
I have lined up a lot of new events during the next two months, so hopefully you will find a few options that pique your interest. If there is an event or activity that you would like to see here at the community, please let me know.
We have recently had a lot of members reporting alligator sightings in the community. I encourage you all to not miss
Gator Beth’s Living with Alligators presentation on November 10 in the Sales Gallery. Beth is a trapper with the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission and she will be able to answer all of your questions regarding these fascinating reptiles.
Lastly, I encourage our Members to register for our final Signature Event of the year, “It’s a Wonderful Lifestyle,” before the final deadline of Friday, November 18. This event will take place on Saturday, December 3 at The Players Club & Spa, which is located less than ten minutes from our community. Flora Top Hits Band will keep our dance floor packed all night long and the club will provide an amazing buffet of culinary delights.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season with your family and friends. I look forward to continuing the fun and creating new memories with everyone in 2023!

Meet Yogi & Tucker LOVED BY ROBERT & PATTI KEARNS
What are your pets’ breeds, ages and birthdays?
The dogs are Miniature Schnauzers. Yogi is five years old, and his birthday is November 8. Tucker is two years old, and his birthday is January 21.
What are your pets’ favorite pastimes?
Floating around the pool with their mommy and watching birds.
What do they get reprimanded for the most?
They bark a lot at people.
What are your pets’ best characteristics?
They are so cute, loving and behave well.
Tell us about the times you welcomed your pets to your home. Yogi was rescued when Robert and Patti came down to Florida to board up their house for a hurricane. As soon as Patti saw Yogi, she fell in love, and he fell in love with her. She says Yogi rescued her. As for Tucker, they wanted a buddy for Yogi, and they found him in upstate New York just as COVID hit. We instantly became a family when they brought Tucker home. Yogi and Tucker laid next to each other the whole way home in the car.

If you would like to be featured or want to nominate another Member, please contact your Lifestyle Manager.
Why did you choose Naples/Esplanade by the Islands? Is your residency full-time or part-time? We chose Esplanade by the Islands because of its location and promise of many activities, enjoyment of the future Resort Amenity Center, and making new friends. Yes, we are full time residents.
QWhat Lifestyle programs are you most interested in? Also, tell us your hobbies.
The programs we are interested in are the guided nature walks, bowling, the Signature Events and outdoor activities. Our hobbies include kayaking, fishing, home brewing beer, cooking and spending time on the beach.
Tell us about your family and current or past professions. We have one tuxedo cat named Oliver who is 10 and enjoys Florida living. Dave is retired from the electric
utility industry where he helped maintain environmental compliance. Barbara is a retired nursery school teacher and full time mother of two.
What is the best advice you have ever received or given? You should enjoy here while you’re here because there’s no here, there.
Where is the most exciting place you’ve traveled to and what made it so memorable?
We enjoyed following the famous 1901 Midnight Ride of Theodore Roosevelt down Mount Marcy in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York upon hearing the news that President McKinley took a turn for the worse after the assassination attempt several days earlier. Mount Marcy is the tallest mountain in New York and provides stunning views as well as a challenging climb.

Diabetes Prevention Month
November is American Diabetes Month. The CDC estimates that over 37 million people in the U.S. have diabetes and 96 million people aged 18 years or older have prediabetes (26 million of those people are 65+). Persons with prediabetes are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. However, type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed through a structured lifestyle change program that promotes weight loss, healthy eating, increased physical activity, including walking and yoga, and managing stress.
Making a few changes in your lifestyle now may help you avoid the serious health complications of diabetes in the future, such as nerve, kidney and heart damage. It’s never too late to start. Did you know one of the best ways to decrease your risk of diabetes is walking? Spending 30 minutes of brisk walking, five times each week is a great way to increase your physical activity. You can even break the 30 minutes down into 10-minute sessions three times a day.
