October brings the start of cooler weather (hopefully) and pumpkin spiced everything! It also brings our Signature Event, An Esplanade Night’s Dream, debuting on Friday, October 21 at the Hyatt House in downtown Naples. We encourage you to attend and experience firsthand why these events are not to be missed. Save the date for our holiday Signature Event, It’s a Wonderful Lifestyle, which will take place on Saturday, December 3 at The Players Club.

Our most recent events had fantastic participation and I look forward to continuing the fun times in the months ahead. Thank you for the warm welcome and I can assure you we are just getting started! As the community continues to grow, it is important that you register in advance on the website (not Facebook) for all events, activities and fitness programming so we can properly prepare (especially for events that involve food). Many events have minimums needed to move forward and some programs could be canceled if we don’t have enough Members registered by the deadline. Once you register, you will be emailed the tickets/confirmation. If you don’t receive an email, check your spam/junk folder. If you can’t find it, please contact me to check that you are correctly registered to attend. If you need training on how to use the website, please stop by the Sales Gallery and I’ll be happy to assist you. We encourage you to try Fresh Catch Fish Company if you haven’t yet, as several Members raved about the quality of the seafood they provide. They will continue to come weekly on Thursday afternoons from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. in the Sales Gallery Parking Lot. They accept both cash and credit/debit cards.

Furry Friends Meet Cheryl & Charlie

What are your pets breeds, ages and birthdays? They are both Maltese. Cheryl is 11 1/2 and her birthday is October 6. Charlie (Charles when he’s in trouble) is 8 and his birthday is May 31. What is your pet’s favorite pastime?

Besides their general cuteness, they love to beg for treats. While they do not get human food, they know how to get lots of yummy doggie treats. What do you get reprimanded for the most?

Don’t have a furry family of your own, but know a community Member who does? Nominate them to be the next Featured Furry Friend. Contact the Member to suggest the feature or your Lifestyle Manager, Carri Adam at CAdam@Evergreen-LM.com, to nominate anonymously.

National Wildlife Day

LOVED BY HOWARD & KAREN SUSSMAN

N ational Wildlife Day, which occurs annually on September 4, was founded in 2005 by animal behaviorist and philanthropist Colleen Paige. It serves to bring awareness of endangered animals nationally as well as globally, that need to be preserved and rescued from their demise each year. It also acknowledges zoos and outstanding animal sanctuaries globally for everything they do to help preserve this planet’s animals and their efforts to educate the public about conservation, especially to children - our animal’s future caretakers and conservationists.

Everything - they can sometimes be a little mischievous. What are your pets best characteristics? Being sweet and mushy. They are always by mom’s side when she is home. Tell us about the time you welcomed your pet to your home. They are two retired champion show dogs, who were lovingly placed with our family. After we purchased their brother from Bevway Maltese, they quickly became friends with Beverly and Wayne. When we were offered Charlie, we jumped at the chance to bring him home. It worked out so well that we went back and got Cheryl a few months later. You can see us walking around the neighborhood or in our sweet ride (mom’s afraid of the alligators). Stop us and say hello.

We moved from Lakeville, Minnesota (southern suburb of the Twin Cities) and chose Naples because of the sunny weather, gorgeous sunsets over the Gulf and just the beauty and charm of Naples and Marco Island. (Plus, no more negative windchill or shoveling snow!) We are full-time Members and are thrilled to live in paradise! What Lifestyle programs are you most interested in? Also, tell us your hobbies We are excited for cooking classes, wine tastings and social gatherings to get to know the other community Members. We enjoy traveling, cooking, cheering for our favorite football teams (the Green Bay Packers for Jen and the Denver Broncos for Grant) and checking out exotic cars.

What is the best advice you have ever received or given? Have the courage to live a life true to yourself, not the life others expect of you. Where is the most exciting place you’ve traveled to and what made it so memorable?

SPOTLIGHT

It’s a toss up between Japan and Banff, Alberta. The trip to Japan was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience; some of the most memorable parts were the gorgeous cherry blossom trees, the food (even though most of the time we didn’t know what we were eating and had to quickly master the use of chopsticks), the ornate shrines and history, traveling on the bullet train and seeing the memorials and structures impacted by the atomic bomb in Hiroshima. Banff is one of THE MOST beautiful places we’ve been to - from the majestic Rocky Mountains to the teal blue water of Lake Louise and Lake Moraine, the pictures do not do it justice! Anything else you’d like to share? It has been wonderful to get to know our neighbors. Everyone is so friendly and kind! We feel extremely blessed to start this new chapter of our lives in Southwest Florida!

Tell us about your family and current or past professions. Grant’s family lives in Colorado and Jen’s family lives in Minnesota. We do not have any children, but have many nieces, nephews and Godchildren, so we do get our kid fix…plus, we get to spoil them and give them back to their parents! Grant works as a mortgage underwriter and Jen is a project management consultant. Both of us are very

National Great American Pot Pie Day celebrates a distinctly American pie, the pot pie. Did you know that Marie Callender’s, the pot pie and frozen food company, created National Great American Pot Pie Day in 2002? The first recipe that was printed for pot pies in the US hails back to 1785. They grew to be a staple in most homes in the 1950’s and are still being enjoyed for generations to come. While the pie can be made from turkey or beef, the most common type in the US is chicken pot pie. Pot pies not only contain meat and sauce, but vegetables like carrots, peas, corn, onions and celery. So this special day calls for a celebration of this delicious national treasure! Who can resist that flaky crust? Come to the Sales Gallery on Friday, September 23 as we serve up individual homemade chicken pot pies from Oakes Market to all attendees along with a salad and dessert bar. We will need at least 20 Members to register to make this event happen. All attendees are asked to bring their own favorite beverage to enjoy during our meal. Registration required by Sunday, September 18.
