We encourage all newly closed Members to join us for Esplanade 101 the first Tuesday of every month, as it is the key to your Lifestyle here at Northgate. We also invite all Members to join us for Neighborhood News, a community update with your dedicated team, and Coffee and Conversation with your Lifestyle Manager to discuss your Resort Lifestyle!

Sunshine Linzi YOUR LIFESTYLE

MANAGER

We are pleased to introduce your Lifestyle Manager, Sunshine Linzi. Yes, Sunshine is her real name, and she is responsible for providing you with an inspired Lifestyle. Working with the Esplanade Resort Experiences Team, she carefully curates everything from Signature Events to a day trip on Charlotte’s Light Rail and everything in between. Sunshine’s goal is to provide unique experiences for her Members to enjoy and be there to support you in any way she can.

Being a Lifestyle Manager is Sunshine’s dream profession. She enjoys learning about people and their life stories – she’s never met a stranger! Sunshine is a NC local who graduated Summa Cum Laude from UNC Greensboro’s Bryan School of Business with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. She comes to you as the former Director of Mad Science of Charlotte, a science after-school program for grades K-5. She is excited now to be serving your community as it grows.

When Sunshine isn’t providing Northgate with unique opportunities, she can be found spending time with her family. Her husband Tom is a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst with Atrium Healthcare. Their son Jacob graduated from UNC Asheville this past spring with a degree in Computer Science/New Media. “We’re so proud of him. We laugh now because we knew after touring the campus, he’d choose his dad’s alma mater, and he did,” Sunshine states.

Their dogs are Ripley and Charlie. Ripley is a nine-year-old Husky/Border Collie mix and Charlie is a mischievous three-year-old Beagle mix. Both are avid hikers who conquered trails on Mt. Mitchell, Whitewater Falls, and Crowders Mountain this past year.

Sunshine is a lover of all animals and animal welfare. “You can always find relatable conversation by asking people about their pets,” she shares. She volunteers each spring at the local Carolina Waterfowl Rescue to help feed baby songbirds. She fosters through three rescues in Charlotte and her favorite part of fostering is staying connected as they grow with their forever families.

Sunshine and Tom are adventurers! 2019 found them in England with a week in Cambridge to tour colleges and punt the River CAM then off to London for a weekend of sightseeing including a day at the Tower of England. When Covid restrictions were lifted, their travels took them to Maine to ocean kayak on Camden Harbor then a boat ride to the famous Cabbage Island Lobster bake. Next, they were off to Boulder, CO to hike the Flat Irons and visit Rocky Mountain National Park. 2024 will find them heading to India and later in the year revisiting Kauai, HI!

As Esplanade at Northgate grows, Sunshine is excited to meet each new Member! She is looking forward to planning your curated experiences and hearing your suggestions on exciting places and activities you would like to attend around the Greater Charlotte Region.

DISTILLERY BEHIND THE BAR TOUR

Get ready for your mug shot! Go behind the bar and tour America’s only distillery located in a former prison. Learn about the history of the prison and how their award-winning whiskey and vodka is crafted. Take a behind the scenes look at the whiskey making process including fermentation and distillation. The tour begins in the gift shop, takes you to different buildings on campus including both dorms and solitary confinement cells, and concludes with a tasting of Southern Grace products.

What’s your favorite food/drink?

I’m a foodie, so my favorites change, but I do enjoy most foods. Red wine and tequila are my favorites! I really enjoyed the Cooking & Cocktail Series: The Art of Sushi & Sake and recommend every Member of Northgate attend those when they come around.

What are some hobbies or activities you enjoy doing?

I enjoy traveling, reading, listening to music, walking outside in nature, attending sporting events, and going out to eat. Sharing quality time with family and friends is always fun too!

What is something you believe everyone should do at least once in their life?

Broaden your horizons by visiting another country. Meet new people, new cultures, new cities, new ways of life, new languages, new realities and more. All those factors help expand your horizons and increase your knowledge and understanding of the world and its people.

Where did you move from? Centerville, Ohio.

QWhy did you choose Esplanade at Northgate? It is certainly an aesthetically beautiful community, but the Resort style amenities sealed the deal for me.

What new skills would you like to learn and why?

AI’d like to take a few culinary classes. I think it’s nice to learn something new. Learning new cooking techniques and presentation skills are always fun, especially if it’s easy to do!

What is an event you would like to see or looking forward to attending at Northgate?

Wine Down Wednesdays for tasting of some very nice wine would be wonderful. I’m excited to learn more about the Esplanade SIP Wine program. I look forward to learning

Furry Friends Meet Hannah

LOVED BY TONI AND BOB VINE

Hannah is 13 years young! She is part Cocker Spaniel and part Dachshund. Three years after we lost our dog, we felt we were ready for another pet. We went to our local shelter looking for a puppy, but as we walked through, most of the dogs were jumping around and barking excitedly. Our sweet Hannah, then four years old, was sitting there looking up with her beautiful brown eyes. We told the employee - “we want her.” She has been the sweetest dog we’ve ever had. She will sit patiently when we are eating, hoping for a bite.

We sometimes call her “Hannah Banana” or “Beansie” because she’s little. She is protective of us and barks when someone rings the doorbell or comes in. As soon as they reach down to pet her, her tail starts wagging and she gives them kisses. She’s excited to meet her community’s furry friends and visit with them at the next Yappy Hour here at Northgate!

Recent Events

In case you missed some of the past season’s events, here is a look back at our fun!

At the Spring BINGO Social Members grabbed their favorite beverage and joined Lifestyle for a Member Social. Prizes were awarded to the winners of each round. At Introduction to Bocce Ball, Lifestyle introduced Members to an open style of play. The main goal was to have FUN while getting the big ball closer to the little ball.

In April, Members joined Lifestyle and Patrick Scully, Director of Food, Beverage, and Culinary Experience for another installment of The Cooking & Cocktail Series: The Art of Sushi and Sake! The Cornhole Mix and Mingle event enjoyed by all! Members partnered up and challenged their neighbors to a game. Then, Members got creative to make cat and dog toys to donate to Union County Animal Shelter! All pets need behavioral enrichment items to keep them busy, happy, and stimulated while they live within a shelter environment.

During the Kindness Rocks Project Members painted rocks with their neighbors to spread a little kindness. Each learned the pour technique for a marbled effect and wrote out their favorite inspirational phrases.

Members joined Lifestyle at Wise Acres Organic Farm to pick their own USDA-certified organic strawberries! In May, at Gardening & Cocktails, Master Gardeners, Mary Staton and Sheri Hudgins returned to Northgate with a workshop on Companion Planting for Raised Beds. Members learned to identify plants for best results in Zone 7b.

Then at Muffins & Mimosas for Mom Lifestyle showed our appreciation for the moms of Northgate, whether that be human or fur babies with muffins and mimosas! Lastly, Members brought their competitive side and art skills teaming up for an evening of Pictionary & Pints.

Union County’s Senior Nutrition Program

Union County’s Senior Nutrition Program (UCSN) provides meals to individuals 60 and over throughout Union County. They do more than provide a nutritious meal, though! They also provide support, education and personal interaction that promotes nutritional, physical and social well-being. The program’s services help sustain health, promote independence and improve the quality of life of those who participate.

There is no cost to participate in any of their nutrition programs and there are no income guidelines. UCSN is funded with a combination of federal, state and county dollars, and voluntary contributions from participants. Participants are under no obligation to contribute; it is entirely voluntary. Classic Daiquiri

Inspired by the beautiful island country of Cuba, celebrate the summer season with this classic cocktail.

INGREDIENTS

» 2 ounces light rum

» 1 ounce lime juice (freshly squeezed)

» ¾ ounce demerara simple syrup

» Lime twist

DIRECTIONS

1. Add the rum, lime juice and syrup to a cocktail shaker.

2. Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously until well chilled.

3. Strain into a chilled coupe glass.

4. Garnish with a fresh lime twist.

Celebrating Your Resort Lifestyle

Beginning in April, the Esplanade Resort Experiences team hosted a series of Debut Celebrations across multiple Esplanade communities, giving over 1,700 Members the opportunity to meet with the team of highly talented leaders dedicated to elevating how they live and connect within the community they call home.

Both informative and fun, Members browsed interactive experience stations demonstrating the array of concierge-level services and Lifestyle programming being introduced as a part of the Resort Lifestyle at Esplanade.

Those who attended got a sneak peek at some of the upcoming national programs being developed by the Esplanade Resort Experiences leadership team.

The spirited “Salute” station was hosted by your National Manager of Food, Beverage & Culinary Experience, Patrick Scully along with other culinary leaders supporting the Resort Lifestyle. Members got a taste of what’s to come in the world of culinary, including a new SIP Wine program.

National Director, Liz Thompson and CJ Hamlin, National Manager of Lifestyle & Concierge showed Members how they can embrace their inner explorer and uncover what’s to come for travel opportunities with the recently launched luxury travel program, Destinations by Esplanade. Members also explored a wide range of concierge services through Esplanade Concierge, further elevating the signature Esplanade Lifestyle.

Crystal Steere, National Manager of Spa, Fitness & Wellness showcased how to discover your zen with uniquely curated wellness offerings, with samples of the Esplanade private label bath & body care collection, The Spa Retreat.
