Community Improvements BY MICHELLE SAUNDERS, LCAM

Victoria Commons Pool Renovations

Maintenance Items

We are happy to announce the completion of the Commons Pool renovations! The renovations included resurfacing the pool, pressure washing the deck and all of the pool furniture, pressure washing, painting and repairing the pergolas as well as cleaning and painting the palm tree water features. We are also in the process of giving the Commons Fitness Center a mini face lift with carpet cleaning and painting.

All street lights in Victoria Park have been cleaned. Many common area sidewalks have been pressure washed as well. Pressure washing of common area sidewalks are in the process of being completed.

Gazebos The gazebos have been replaced and new benches have been installed. We also repaired the brick paver walkway leading to the gazebo by Lake Victoria. Take a walk and enjoy the beautiful scenery in the community!

Conservation and Wildlife Please be mindful of the baby Sandhill Cranes (colts) as you drive throughout Victoria Park. It is currently hatching season and several colts have already been spotted. Gopher Tortoises are protected and cannot be removed from any property without proper oversight and in accordance with state guidelines. If you notice a hole on your property and believe it may be a Gopher Tortoise, feel free to reach out to the community management office. We have wildlife volunteers and conservationists who can confirm and assist in the removal. Please remember that no animals may be hunted or removed from the conservation area. We appreciate your cooperation!

MICHELLE SAUNDERS is the Community Manager for Victoria Park. You can reach her at 386-738-2112, ext. 6 or by email at MSaunders@Evergreen-LM.com.

COMPLIANCE

Covenants Corner BY STEVE INGRAM

W

inter is finally behind us, and the weather is getting warmer every day. Now is the time for residents to complete outdoor tasks before the temperature gets much higher. Check your street tree to be sure it is cut 14 feet above the street and 8 feet above the sidewalk. Also trim any branches that could interfere with or block street signs and street lights. How about your lot trees? Do they need to be trimmed or shaped, maybe some bracing to help keep them growing straight?

• Bird houses, bird feeders, birdbaths, water features, benches, and chairs are not permitted in the front or side yards.

Take a look at the house, driveway and sidewalk; do any of these need to be pressure washed? Remember that cleaning up around your house does not require approval from the HOA, but if you are considering changes to the exterior, you must submit plans before you do any of the work.

• Wall art cannot exceed 36” high by 36” wide and the application should include a picture of the piece with the description of where it is to be placed.

Lawn Accessories & Wall Art As a reminder, new policies were implemented last spring in regards to lawn accessories and wall art on houses.

• Accessories must be located within the mulched areas contiguous to the house and be of a natural or neutral color. • Wall art can be placed on entryway and porch walls as long as the wall does not face the street.

Remember, the governing documents are in place to help ensure that the investment you’ve made in your home increases in value and aesthetics. As we take care of our own property and the common areas, we are maintaining the desirable reputation of Victoria Park. Be friendly out there and enjoy the Park life.

Some of the highlights include: • Only 3 items in the front beds no bigger than 18” wide x 18” tall, except for sand hill crane statues which can be 43” tall; no other tall items are permitted.

SPOTLIGHT

Resident Spotlight: Nanette Carey BY EVA NICOL, DIRECTOR OF LIFEST YLES AND CLUBHOUSE OPERATIONS

I

n her early writing career, resident colorist Nanette Carey spent time writing children’s books. She evolved into writing historical and contemporary romance books. Her love and passion for books has recently taken a new fun twist from words to color! About two years ago, Nanette purchased an online coloring therapy app, which allowed her to apply color to pictures through touch of a button. Six months later, she purchased her first coloring book for adults. “I was hooked,” she said. “It takes you back to your childhood. When you are coloring, you aren’t focused on your problems, stress or health issues. It’s a therapy the doctors can’t even prescribe.” Nanette has joined online coloring groups through social media, including Facebook community coloring groups. It’s a way to connect with other colorists who share and comment on each other’s work. Through these groups, she has been connected to coloring book illustrators and publishers, who have asked her to do promotional work after seeing her artwork. The artist supplies her with the black and white or grayscale print and Nanette brings it to life with her creativity and color. Her artwork has been featured on four covers of coloring books. She has been featured on YouTube’s “Top 10 weekly featured coloring items” for three weeks in a row. She has done numerous promotional and advertising pieces for publishers and illustrators, including Ruth Sanderson. Nanette has worked with coloring book authors such as Hester Moult, Renee Davenport, and Ivette Levy. When asked why she started coloring, Nanette said it was just for fun and a way to relax (also she loves bright colors)! She describes coloring as instant gratification; “The minute you put the last color down, it’s out there.” She started by purchasing books from the Dollar Store and has let her collection grow and expand along with her knowledge. She shared that coloring has changed over the years from simple supplies to grey scale photos and high end products. Nanette would like to eventually get a Central Florida conference group of collective artists to grow and learn more about coloring. Currently, she attends the Victoria Garden’s coloring group which meets monthly. Nanette is available to help beginners and encourages others to: “Buy a coloring book that tickles your fancy, start out with an inexpensive set of pencils and be a kid again!”
